This Session revisits our Pre-Colonial Ancestors through the use of multi and interdisciplinary methodologies in unearthing and reliving the lives and conditions of Ancient Filipinos.
For Panel A | Early Filipino Ancestors, we have we have Dr. Victor Paz of the University of the Philippines Diliman Archeological Studies Program give us an overview of how to imagine our ancestors using Archeology, followed by Prof. Nicholas Michael Sy of the UP Diliman Department of History with his analysis of belief systems in Luzon using demographic sources during the 17th Century, and Prof Analyn Muñoz of the University of the Philippines Baguio Department of History and Philosophy with her work on the Peoples of the Ilog Pasig and their relationship with the historic waterway. Dr. Randy Madrid, President of ADHIKA ng Pilipinas, Inc., and Director of the Center for West Visayan Studies of UP Visayas will moderate this panel.

Session 8 re-examines the extensive trade networks of the 15th to 17th century in Southeast Asia and the role of the Visayas in this network. From well-known ties with the rest of insular Southeast Asia, to the more nuanced relationship with China and mainland Asia, the Visayas held strong linkages as evidenced by the multitude of archeological and historical evidence produced by hardworking and pioneering researchers.
For Panel A | The Philippines in the Pre-Hispanic World Trade, Dr. John A. Peterson of the University of San Carlos and Visayan researcher Dr. Genesis Velez retrace the geopolitical location of the Philippines in the pre-colonial trade networks of the World and take a more in-depth look into the Visayas-China trade relations. This panel is moderated by Ma. Regina Yoma of the University of San Carlos.
