The BulSU Journalism Society takes over "Bakit Journ?: Where the Pen Leads!"—an event that seeks to explore the true magical meaning of journalism. Afternoon of October 28, at Valencia Hall, the wait is finally over as it uncovers the essence of journalism and imparts valuable lessons to every aspiring journalist on our campus.

To begin the event with daze and hype, Banda ni CAL performer Eugin Albert Fajardo stunningly performed his piece for the crowd. This annual event was hosted by Micailla Isidro and Josh Ricardo. The BulSU Journalism Society President, Kobe Roque, Organization Adviser Dr. Trisha Pangan-Ompoc, and Ms. Ma. Ethel Jovito, Journalism Program Head, led the opening remarks to officially start the annual seminar for Journalism.

Kicking off with the magical question “Bakit Journ?”, Mr. Dexter Barro II, from Manila Bulletin and also an alumnus, took the mic first to deliver his experiences and meaningful message, highlighting two words that should always be in the mind of a journalist and an aspiring journalist: ‘Patience & Commitment.’—Ched Gatchalian, a digital news writer from ABS-CBN and also an alumnus, talked about his long journey as a journalist from a very young age. He also highlighted what should be done after graduating and shared his experiences entering various media companies.

The ‘Lahing Kayumanggi Dance Troupe’ woke up the crowd by performing their ‘Binasuan’ folk dance, energizing the audience for the next speaker. Ms. Jacque Manabat, an independent multi-platform journalist, finally took the floor at BulSU Valencia Hall as she engaged with the audience interactively. She not only discussed her life as a journalist but also shared her long journey in the field. She captivated her audience by talking about her shifting expertise and her profession, which led her to become the best version of herself. She provided her audience with a wealth of knowledge and lectures that surely answered the question “Bakit Journ?”

This event was a bonafide experience for all BulSUans. As it finally reached its end, the audience surely captured and learned from the answers of all three distinguished guests, who delivered their messages and experiences in response to the truly magical question “Bakit Journ?” A magical annual event that leads the pen of every aspiring journalist, lighting their path on the journey in the field of journalism.
