โI doโ is the phrase that unifies two people into marriage. But โI doโ does not take away or diminish the value of consent within the union.
Following accusations against GMA-7 contractors, Senator Robin Padilla, who is heading a senate probe into complaints of sexual harassment and abuse in the media, asked Atty. Lorna Kapunan regarding the definition of r**e in todayโs time. Atty. Kapunan then specified that consent must still be present even in the context of marriageโa fact that surprised the senator.
Senator Padilla seemed to believe that a spouse must cater to every needs of their partner. Specifically, he believed that marriage equated to having sexual rights over a spouse. A mindset that sent chills down the spines of all those vulnerable to abuse.
Marriage is not a license to do whatever you want with your partner because consent should still exist within the boundaries of marriage. As a spouse, it is oneโs responsibility to respect their partner, and this includes understanding that oneโs urge is not part of a partnerโs duty in a nuptial. It is their responsibility to respect and oblige to a partnerโs refusal to engage in any kind of sexual activity.
And there is no such thing as โsexual rights.โ Men in-heat is not a womanโs problem. Such reasoning is absurd, especially from an elected senator. How could one not differentiate human reasoning from that of an animal in heat? Sexual rights do not exist. There are, however, human rights, and this includes the presence and authority of consent.
Senator Robin Padilla should get schooling regarding the true essence of marriage. It is time to debunk the misconceptions surrounding oneโs responsibility in a union. Sexual rights do not exist, and they absolutely do not outweigh your partnerโs basic human rights. Marriage may have started with saying yes, but one can still say no within its ties.

Forty-one years ago, Ninoy Aquinoโs assassination ignited a movement that awakened a nation and paved the way for the People Power Revolution. His sacrifice reminds the Filipinos of the price paid for our freedom and the importance of our democracy.
As we commemorate Ninoy Aquino Day, let's honor his legacy by reflecting on the enduring fight for justice and the need to remain vigilant in protecting our rights.

August 20, 2024 โ Starting off the new academic year, College of Science (CS) held its freshmen orientation at the Valencia Hall.
Dr. Thelma V. Pagtalunan, Dean of CS, commenced the event welcoming the freshies with high spirits.
โYou are here because you are capable, because you have the potential to make a difference. Not just in your own life, but in the lives of others and in the worldโ Dr. Pagtalunan stated and also mentioned the tagline of CS, โThe journey to excellence starts here.โ
This orientation introduced the Vision, Mission, Goals, and Core Values of the university and CS, as well as the class advisers and CS faculty members. The objectives of each program, academic regulations, student conduct and discipline, and retention policy were also discussed. Representatives from the BulSU E-Library presented a library orientation and instruction program.
CS Dance and CS Band showcased their talents through intermission numbers. The CS Local Student Council and student organizations, including the CS Wizards, presented themselves and were open for new members to join them.
The event concluded with the inspiring remarks of Dr. Valentine Blez L. Lampayan, Chair of the Mathematics Department. Different empowered and insightful groups led by female students competed for the 2024 SHE-ensya Thesis Grant to acquire financial support for their respective studies, all with the unified goal of improving the countryโs research methodologies and techniques while contributing to the innovation of science and technology.
As the 2024 SHE-ensya Thesis Grant concludes, the team of April Mae L. Mangahas, John Maverick I. Cruz, Mike Christian D. Sindayen, and Pacifico T. Villalino IV were chosen to be the grand champion of this event, with their study entitled "Profiling of Invasive Ichthyofaunal Species in Pantabangan Dam through DNA Barcoding." The group aims to materialize an inventory catalog that contains the species identification, morphological features, and feeding and breeding behaviors of the introduced fish species in the Pantabangan Dam such as tilapia, largemouth bass, janitor fish, gourami, and carp while also categorizing them as either beneficial, potentially invasive, and invasive to help preserve the endemic fish species in the said dam such as ayungin, native snakehead, and biya for the benefit of the people getting irrigation and also their livelihood from this dam. This will be accomplished through morphological identification and a modern molecular analysis known as โDNA Barcoding.โ
Next in line are the people behind the study named "Determining the Apoptotic Inducing Property of Embelia sp. on HT-29 Colorectal Cancer Cell Line Using 2D and 3D Cell Culture Methods," who earned the second prize of this grant. The pair of Yannikka Bata & Jeremiah John Urbi aims to provide a herbal alternative medicine that can either be a cure or a preventive measure to the fatal and threatening colorectal cancer by utilizing the medicinal properties of the unstudied Embelia Luzoniensis. Unlike the Western and modern medicinal approach, herbal medicines are deemed to be cheaper and would most likely be more accessible to the public, given that their study would be fruitful and successful in the near future. The pair utilized the use of both 2D and 3D Cell Cultures to have a more accurate representation of the environment inside the human body to achieve promising and desirable results.
Last but not least is the third placer of this event, the study entitled "Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Treatment Of Copper Surface For Enhanced Corrosion Resistance" by Patricia Mae C. Ludovice. Her study aims to capitalize on the usage of plasma on copper and its alloys to reduce the diffusion of corrosive elements for its prolonged usage. Her analysis suggests that plasma comprising ions and free electrons would greatly improve the wettability and surface energy of copper to maintain its ductility and malleability. Her study aims to examine the corrosion resistance of copper treated with plasma through the use of an Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Jet (APPJ).
Science is truly vast and universal, and knowing and applying its principles will always lead to a triumphant result that will lead to the advancement of human knowledge. These students proved that everything is possible, and science is the key to approaching and unlocking the impossible.
Congratulations, SHE-ensya! ๐โจ

With every dawn, a fresh new start,
The school year begins, a beating heart.
A canvas wide, yet to be filled,
With dreams and hopes the future's willed.
The doors swing wide, the halls awake,
Each step a new path we take.
The books, the friends, the lessons clear,
In every heart, there's no more fear.
We walk through halls we've yet to know,
With open minds, we start to grow.
By knowledge vast, by teachers' guide,
We'll find the strength that's deep inside.
No fear shall hold, no doubt shall bind,
For in these walls, we'll surely find,
That every challenge, every test,
Leads us closer to our best.
The week is short, the journey starts,
But with each other in our hearts,
We'll face the new, embrace the change,
And find ourselves within the range.
For in this quest for what is true,
The friendships here will see us through.
A school year's start, with hopes untold,
Our stories now begin to unfold.
So step with courage into the day,
Let curiosity lead the way.
With heads held high, with spirits bright,
To new adventures, we take flight.
