The PAPAGAYO - The Red Spartan Pride Council Alangilan is pleased to announce the recently 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 that will be 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 of Batangas State University, The National Engineering University, addressing the concerns of students from the LGBTQIA+ community, Friday, September 6. This long-awaited update introduces several key changes while maintaining certain traditional guidelines.

One of the most notable revisions is the introduction of options for 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. Although 𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙨-𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙝𝙞𝙗𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙙, 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘀. Female students can opt for a looser blouse fit, while male students have similar flexibility with their polos and slacks. However, the 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀—skirts and blouses for females, polos and slacks for males—𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲.

The policy also grants more freedom in terms of haircuts. 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿, 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵. However, 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙤𝙣 𝙗𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙞𝙧 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙧𝙨 𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙡𝙮, with 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙨 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙢𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙙.

Earlier today, PAPAGAYO-The Red Spartan Pride Council attended the "Kapihan with the President," hosted by President Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo. University officials, including the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Director of the Office of Student Affairs, Heads of Student Discipline of constituent campuses, and University Student Council President, gathered to discuss the newly revised Dress Code Policy, 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝟭𝟳 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀. The recent revision, 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟮𝟴, was shaped by numerous complaints, requests, and concerns raised by students over the past year.

President Ronquillo admitted feeling "a bit disheartened" by the negative online reactions but reaffirmed his commitment to student welfare, emphasizing that it remains his top priority "from morning until night." He also highlighted the importance of considering these issues within a broader context and respecting diverse social norms.

President Ronquillo acknowledged that parental concerns are a key factor in the continued restriction on cross-dressing, but emphasized that the university strives to address the needs of the entire student population, including the 92% outside the LGBTQIA+ spectrum, while ensuring that the concerns of the 8% within the spectrum are not overlooked.

In his closing remarks, the president stressed that the revised Dress Code Policy, addressing cross-dressing, haircuts, and uniform alterations, aims to foster a more responsible, inclusive, and focused student body. These changes are a step towards creating a safer and more welcoming space for all members of the Red Spartan community.
