ARE POWERPOINTS DUMBING US?
I got tired using PPT during lectures. From now, I choose to be the power who makes a point and empower my students to be their own power to make their point. We are the point of power. It comes from us.
Nope, don't get me wrong. I don't hate PPTs. I used to use them so much.... In my online classes during the pandemic, I felt the need to maximize the use of PPT with the thought it would maximize the learning of students. Heck, in conferences and seminars I go to, I used to even take screenshots I don't ever collate. I fooled myself that I would be able to recall the information by taking shots of the slides. Guess what, I never went back to them. What I learned didn't come from the PPT, it came from the speakers. Their insights, their stories. They are the point of power. The source of powerful information.
Even Jeff Bezos & Elon Musk discourage Power Points in their meetings. According to them, PPT lectures don't encourage critical thinking.
During the pandemic, everybody found a way to make slides and visual presentations for online training. But here's the thing, PPT containing information can become a barrier to real learning which happens only through engagement and connection.
I noticed how my students or trainees (for that matter) look more at the slides than they do at me. There's no way, I will make my slides more interesting than the information and communication and engagement coming from me.
Students are on their phones most of the day, if not video games on their spare time, or NETFLIX bingeing. With their eyes already bombarded by dopamine-seeking inducing technology. I like them to rest their eyes when they talk to me.
So NOPE. No PPT for me; not when what I share is more valuable than what they will see on the slides. I would rather them taking down notes (not on their CP) in their NOTEBOOKS or the handouts distributed to them as they LISTEN to me. As they LOOK at me. I am the power who has the capability to enable them to visualize colors, imagine scenarios, create diagrams in their heads, to use their hands to write. To talk to each other for collaboration.
We are the point of power. The source of learning. Capische.
Dealing with addiction with the help of a psychotherapist involves several steps and techniques tailored to the individual's needs. Here's a general outline of how psychotherapy can help in addressing addiction:
Assessment and Evaluation: The first step is for the psychotherapist to conduct a thorough assessment to understand the nature and severity of the addiction, as well as any underlying mental health issues that may be contributing to it.
Building a Therapeutic Alliance: Establishing trust and rapport between the therapist and the individual is crucial. This alliance forms the foundation for the therapeutic process.
Setting Goals: Together with the individual, the therapist will identify specific goals for therapy, which may include reducing or abstaining from substance use, improving coping skills, addressing underlying emotional issues, and enhancing overall well-being.
Psychoeducation: Educating the individual about addiction, its causes, effects, and treatment options can help them gain insight into their condition and make informed decisions about their recovery.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT is a widely used therapeutic approach for addiction treatment. It helps individuals identify and change maladaptive thoughts and behaviors related to substance use, develop coping skills to manage cravings and triggers, and prevent relapse.
Motivational Interviewing (MI): MI is a client-centered approach that helps individuals explore and resolve their ambivalence about change. The therapist collaborates with the individual to strengthen their motivation for recovery and make positive behavioral changes.
Mindfulness-Based Interventions: Mindfulness techniques, such as meditation and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), can help individuals develop greater self-awareness, regulate their emotions, and cope with cravings and stressors without turning to substances.
Family Therapy: In many cases, addiction affects not only the individual but also their family members. Family therapy can help improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen support networks to enhance the individual's recovery process.
Support Groups: Encouraging participation in support groups like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA) can provide additional peer support and accountability outside of therapy sessions.
Relapse Prevention Planning: Developing a relapse prevention plan with the individual helps identify potential triggers, warning signs of relapse, and coping strategies to maintain sobriety in challenging situations.
Continued Support and Monitoring: Recovery from addiction is an ongoing process, and the therapist provides continued support, encouragement, and monitoring to help the individual maintain their progress over time.

Coping with grief and loss with the support of a psychotherapist involves engaging in a therapeutic process that helps individuals navigate the emotional challenges associated with their experience. Here are some strategies for coping with grief in therapy:
Open Communication:
Be open and honest with your psychotherapist about your thoughts and feelings. Share your experiences, memories, and the impact the loss has had on your life. Honest communication forms the foundation for effective therapy.
Acknowledge and Express Emotions:
Allow yourself to feel and express a wide range of emotions. Psychotherapy provides a safe space to explore and share your feelings without judgment. The therapist can help you identify and express emotions you might be struggling with.
Understanding the Grieving Process:
A psychotherapist can provide information about the normal grieving process, helping you understand that grief is a unique and individual journey. Knowing what to expect can make the process more manageable.
Developing Coping Strategies:
Work with your therapist to identify healthy coping strategies that suit your individual needs. This may include mindfulness techniques, relaxation exercises, journaling, or engaging in activities that bring comfort and solace.
Processing Guilt and Regret:
If you're experiencing guilt or regret related to the loss, a psychotherapist can help you explore and process these emotions. Understanding and working through these feelings is an essential part of the healing process.
Creating Rituals and Memorials:
The therapist can assist in creating meaningful rituals or memorials to honor the memory of the person or situation you've lost. This may involve discussing ways to keep the connection alive in a positive and constructive manner.
Building a Support System:
Explore ways to strengthen your support system, whether through family, friends, or support groups. The therapist can help you identify and cultivate meaningful connections to provide additional emotional support.
Self-Compassion and Patience:
Grieving is a process that takes time, and it's important to be patient with yourself. A psychotherapist can help you develop self-compassion, allowing you to navigate the grief journey with kindness and understanding.
Exploring Meaning and Purpose:
Grief therapy often involves exploring the meaning of the loss and how it fits into the broader context of your life. This exploration can contribute to finding a sense of purpose and direction as you move forward.
Addressing Complicated Grief:
In some cases, grief may become complicated, leading to prolonged and intense distress. A psychotherapist can recognize signs of complicated grief and provide specialized interventions to address these challenges.
Remember that every individual's grief journey is unique, and therapy is a collaborative process. Finding a psychotherapist who understands your needs and provides a supportive environment is crucial. If you're considering therapy for grief, take the time to connect with mental health professionals and discuss your specific situation to ensure a good fit.

Understanding Depression
Depression is a complex mental health condition characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a lack of interest or pleasure in activities. Here are some key points to consider:
Biological Factors: Depression is often influenced by biological factors, such as genetic predisposition, changes in brain chemistry, and hormonal imbalances. These factors can affect neurotransmitters, like serotonin and dopamine, which play a crucial role in regulating mood.
Psychological Factors: Stressful life events, trauma, or ongoing chronic stress can contribute to the development of depression. Personal vulnerabilities, low self-esteem, and negative thought patterns may also play a role.
Environmental Factors: Social and environmental factors, such as a lack of social support, isolation, or challenging life circumstances, can contribute to the onset and exacerbation of depression.
Cognitive Factors: Depression often involves distorted thinking patterns, where individuals perceive themselves, their experiences, and the future in a negative light. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an effective approach to address and change these negative thought patterns.
Physical Symptoms: Depression can manifest not only as emotional distress but also as physical symptoms like changes in appetite, sleep disturbances, fatigue, and aches or pains.
Seeking Professional Help: If you or someone you know is experiencing symptoms of depression, it's crucial to seek professional help. Psychotherapy, particularly approaches like CBT, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), or psychodynamic therapy, can be effective in treating depression. In some cases, medication may also be recommended, especially for moderate to severe depression.
Self-Care and Lifestyle Changes: Incorporating self-care practices, maintaining a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise, proper nutrition, and adequate sleep can positively impact mood and contribute to the overall management of depression.
Remember, it's essential to consult with mental health professionals for a thorough assessment and personalized treatment plan. If you or someone you know is struggling with depression, don't hesitate to reach out for support.

A meaningful conversation for someone with mental health concerns often involves discussing their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a supportive and non-judgmental environment. Here's why meaningful conversations and psychotherapy are essential for individuals dealing with mental health issues:
Validation and Understanding:
Meaningful conversations provide a space for individuals to express their emotions without fear of judgment. A psychotherapist can offer validation and understanding, helping the person feel heard and acknowledged.
Exploration of Feelings and Thoughts:
Through dialogue, individuals can explore the root causes of their emotions and thoughts. This exploration can lead to a deeper understanding of oneself and the factors contributing to mental health challenges.
Coping Strategies:
Psychotherapists are trained to help individuals develop effective coping strategies. Meaningful conversations in therapy can focus on identifying and implementing healthy coping mechanisms to manage stress, anxiety, depression, or other mental health issues.
Behavioral Patterns:
Conversations with a psychotherapist can shed light on recurring behavioral patterns. Understanding these patterns allows individuals to make positive changes and develop healthier ways of thinking and behaving.
Building a Therapeutic Relationship:
The therapeutic relationship itself is a crucial aspect of psychotherapy. Meaningful conversations between the therapist and the individual foster trust, creating a safe space for personal growth and healing.
Setting Realistic Goals:
Through dialogue, individuals can work with their therapist to set realistic and achievable goals for their mental health. This collaborative approach empowers individuals to take steps towards positive change.
Empowerment and Self-Reflection:
Meaningful conversations encourage self-reflection, empowering individuals to gain insights into their own lives and make informed decisions for their well-being.
Preventing Isolation:
Mental health challenges can lead to feelings of isolation. Engaging in regular, meaningful conversations with a psychotherapist helps counteract this isolation by providing a consistent and supportive connection.
In summary, meaningful conversations with a psychotherapist offer a structured and supportive environment for individuals to explore, understand, and navigate their mental health challenges. The therapeutic process aims to empower individuals, promote self-discovery, and provide tools for managing and improving mental well-being.

What is Reiki?
Reiki is a form of alternative therapy that originated in Japan in the early 20th century. The word "Reiki" is derived from two Japanese words: "rei," meaning universal, and "ki," meaning life energy or vital force. Reiki practitioners believe that there is a universal life energy that flows through all living things and that this energy can be channeled and manipulated to promote healing and balance.
During a typical Reiki session, a practitioner uses their hands to lightly touch or hover over specific areas of the client's body, intending to channel and transfer healing energy. The practitioner may follow a set pattern or focus on areas where energy blockages are believed to exist. The goal is to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and facilitate the body's natural healing processes.
Reiki is often considered a holistic approach to well-being, addressing physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of an individual. While some people report positive experiences and feelings of relaxation and balance after Reiki sessions, it's important to note that scientific evidence supporting its effectiveness is limited. Reiki is often viewed as complementary to conventional medical treatments, and individuals interested in trying it should consult with healthcare professionals to ensure it aligns with their overall health plan.

What is a Psychotherapist?
A psychotherapist is a trained professional who helps individuals, couples, or groups address and overcome emotional, psychological, and behavioral challenges. The primary goal of psychotherapy is to improve mental health and well-being by exploring thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and by developing coping strategies and healthier ways of dealing with difficulties.
Psychotherapists use various therapeutic approaches and techniques depending on the needs of their clients. Some common forms of psychotherapy include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, humanistic therapy, and interpersonal therapy. The specific approach used often depends on the therapist's theoretical orientation and the client's unique circumstances.
Psychotherapists work with clients on a wide range of issues, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, stress, relationship problems, trauma, grief, and personal development. They create a safe and confidential space for clients to explore their thoughts and emotions, fostering self-awareness and promoting positive changes in their lives.
It's important to note that the terms "psychotherapist" and "counselor" are sometimes used interchangeably, but there can be variations in their training, education, and specific areas of expertise. Additionally, in some regions, psychotherapists may be required to obtain licensure or certification to practice.
