Another flower preservation that took me too long to finish 😅
Well, that's what flower preservations really have in common 😅

This project is a bouquet of roses from a special someone that my friend wanted to have as necklace and small resin block.

I usually share some of my thoughts here as Mimi but today, let me share my thoughts as Mimi, the PhD student.

My main research topic is about what researchers call as the "new middle class”. Ito iyong mga tao na nakaranas ng economic development sa generation nila because of education or minsan migration. (like me!!)

Kumbaga, nakaranas ng hirap tapos umangat sa buhay dahil nag aral at nakakuha ng trabaho. Pinagpaguran lahat ng meron sa buhay.

At dahil nga pinggpaguran natin ang mga bagay na meron tayo, malaking parte ng self-identity natin (sariling pagkakakilanlan) ang mga natamo natin sa buhay.

We are our achievement, and our achievement is us. Our achievement is our source of pride.

Kaya intense ang pressure sa family na dapat may achievement ang mga anak. Itong birth of the “new middle class” started kasi in the 1950s, stagnated and then picked up again in the 1980s. In short, nag start to sa mga Nanay, Tatay, Tito at Tita natin.

To make matters worst, the next generation of these “new middle class” has also internalized this thinking. We need to. Precarious pa kasi ang position natin as a middle class. Kumbaga, isang sakuna lang or isang myembro lang ng pamilya magkasakit, mawawala lahat ng pinagpaguran natin.

So, a lot of people of my age still put achievement at the center of our existence - this includes me.

Like Luisa, I often feel worthless if I can't be of service or if I can't bring pride to my family.

I am sharing this so you might have an idea where this need to prove ourselves is coming from.

May this help you to understand yourself as it helped me.

Please know that your thinking and feeling is also a product of what’s happening around you.

So the take away: maybe we can also start learning and adopting the idea that our whole essence is not and should not be tied to our achievement in life.

This is actually my first time to make resin shakers. I want the frontliners to have something that will shake their stress and anxieties away, literally and figuratively 😂

A friend ask me to preserve the rose given to her by her boyfriend to prolong the life of the flower. How sweet 🥰😍

Literally took me ages to finish this project especially the polishing part 😅
I had to roll this piece with a fast curing resin for more than an hour until the resin sets 😅 aannnd I had to do it again because the 1st polishing isn't that great. 😅

Seeing the end results after polishing made my heart skip a beat 😍
