Today, on International Youth Day, we celebrate the vital role played by young individuals in shaping the future and acknowledge the unique challenges they face in the current era. This occasion serves to raise awareness about global issues impacting youth, such as unemployment, limited educational access, mental health struggles, discrimination, and social exclusion.

International Youth Day aims to spotlight these obstacles and call the attention of our government, development partners, and stakeholders for effective interventions to support us in overcoming these challenges. Our goal is to empower our peers to actively engage in local, national and global issues by ensuring that we have access to opportunities, resources, and support to participate, contribute, and co-lead. By working together, we can create a world where every young person is respected, heard, and empowered to achieve our full potential.

The future belongs to the youth, and we must stand alongside with one another as we shape our future. Let us support youth-led community-based organizations and youth leaders in creating the better future we desire by providing guidance and encouragement all the way and everyday!

Quezon City, PHILIPPINES — The Network Country Team joined the meeting with Out-of-School Comprehensive Sexuality Education (OOS CSE) Consortium together with other NGOs, CSOs, and Community-based Organizations working on CSE.

On the same occasion, the Network Country Team of Y-PEER Pilipinas also welcomed Dr. Aleksandar Sasha Bodiroza, the Deputy Regional Director of UNFPA Asia and the Pacific, who is also the Founder of Y-PEER International in 2000 during the bilateral meeting.

Today's bilateral meeting highlights the existing programs and milestones of Y-PEER Philippines in advancing the rights of adolescents and young people to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), HIV and AIDS Response, Humanitarian Response, Ending Gender-based Violence (GBV) and Ending Child Early and Forced Marriages (CEFM). Likewise, Y-PEER Philippines have presented the future plans and programs to sustain the gains and the momentum, including the establishment of “The Orange Hub” to provide direct SRH, HIV and AIDS, Family Planning, and other non-health services to adolescents and young key populations (ayKP). Y-PEER Philippines also seek the support of UNFPA Philippines on the plans to professionalize Peer Education as part of the health care delivery system.

“The opportunity to meet with the founder of our network is not only a privilege but also a powerful reminder of the vision and dedication that has given rise to the vibrant community we are all part of today” Ralph Ivan, President and CEO said.

He added “Dr. Shasha, your pioneering efforts in establishing Y-PEER have created a global movement that empowers youth, and it is with great pride that we can say your vision continues to flourish across the diverse regions of the Philippines, particularly in the geographically isolated and disadvantage areas (GIDA) and hard to reach populations to have access to information and services.”

The dialogue underscored the urgency of promoting CSE's integration into broader educational frameworks, emphasizing its role in promoting health seeking behavior, addressing gender inequality, and empowering adolescents and young people to make their informed decision-making leading towards campaign of the DOH’s .

In commemoration of World Humanitarian Day (WHD) on August 19th, we recognize and appreciate the extraordinary resilience, strength, and compassion of the Filipino people. Filipinos have consistently shown unwavering courage and determination in times of crisis, rallying together to assist those in need and provide humanitarian aid.

The Philippines, being a geographically vulnerable country, has faced numerous natural disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions. In the face of these challenges, Filipinos have always stood united, demonstrating an incredible spirit of volunteerism, generosity, and selflessness.

During times of crisis, we Filipinos have come together to provide immediate assistance, including food, water, shelter, medical aid, and emotional support, to those affected by disasters. The resilience and compassion of the Filipino people have saved countless lives and helped communities recover from devastating circumstances.

World Humanitarian Day serves as a reminder to acknowledge and honor the sacrifices made by individuals and organizations in the pursuit of helping others. It's a time to highlight the efforts of those who have dedicated their lives to humanitarian work, as well as to inspire others to get involved and make a positive difference.

On this occasion, let us express our deep appreciation for the enduring strength and courage of every Filipino, especially to our youth volunteers who have given their invaluable contributions in times of crisis.

Together, we can create a more compassionate and inclusive world, where the spirit of humanitarianism thrives and supports those in need, !
