The World Food Programme is working with the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Department of Agriculture - Philippines on Project LAWA or Local Adaptation to Water Access. ๐ง Under Project LAWA, communities build small farm reservoirs to catch and store water. Every morning, Annie rises early to prepare breakfast for her family before heading out with her husband to tend to their farm. ๐๐ฑ It used to be hard for them to transport their harvests because of the lack of roads. Through the support of Japan, Annie and her community worked to build and rehabilitate farm-to-market roads under WFP's Food Assistance for Assets programme. This ensures that their produce would reach the markets faster, safer, and easier. ๐ฉ๐ฝโ๐พโ For Annie, the 50kg iron-fortified rice she received monthly for three months was a big help. #ProjectLAWA World Water Day ๐
The World Food Programme is working with the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Department of Agriculture โ Bureau of Soils and Water Management ๐ค๐ผ to anticipate the impact of dry spells and drought-like conditions through the Local Adaptation to Water Access Project (#ProjectLAWA). ๐
Launched in three pilot sites: Antique, Davao de Oro, and Ifugao, participating communities built small farm reservoirs that save rainwater. These reservoirs can be used for farming ๐ฑ, as water for livestock ๐ง, and for other household purposes. In Davao de Oro, farmers are also using it as a temporary fishpond to help boost their income.

Aisah Manaros is the team leader for the vegetable nursery and road-clearing activities in Barangay Udalo, Piagapo. ๐ฉ๐ฝโ๐พ With the support of Japan, she and her community worked to rehabilitate roads, build nurseries ๐ฑ, and maintain communal irrigation ๐ under WFPโs Food-for-Assets Programme.
