Every morning, Annie rises early to prepare breakfast for her family before heading out with her husband to tend to their farm. ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒฑ It used to be hard for them to transport their harvests because of the lack of roads. Through the support of Japan, Annie and her community worked to build and rehabilitate farm-to-market roads under WFP's Food Assistance for Assets programme. This ensures that their produce would reach the markets faster, safer, and easier. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿฝโ€๐ŸŒพโš’ For Annie, the 50kg iron-fortified rice she received monthly for three months was a big help. One sack is enough for her family of five, with some more saved for the next month. #ProjectLAWA World Water Day ๐ŸŒŠ
The World Food Programme is working with the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Department of Agriculture โ€“ Bureau of Soils and Water Management ๐Ÿค๐Ÿผ to anticipate the impact of dry spells and drought-like conditions through the Local Adaptation to Water Access Project (#ProjectLAWA). ๐ŸŒŠ Launched in three pilot sites: Antique, Davao de Oro, and Ifugao, participating communities built small farm reservoirs that save rainwater. These reservoirs can be used for farming ๐ŸŒฑ, as water for livestock ๐Ÿ’ง, and for other household purposes. In Davao de Oro, farmers are also using it as a temporary fishpond to help boost their income. On March 22, learn more about how local communities are preparing for El Niรฑo. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ

Aisah Manaros is the team leader for the vegetable nursery and road-clearing activities in Barangay Udalo, Piagapo. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿฝโ€๐ŸŒพ With the support of Japan, she and her community worked to rehabilitate roads, build nurseries ๐ŸŒฑ, and maintain communal irrigation ๐ŸŒŠ under WFPโ€™s Food-for-Assets Programme.
