Today, WFP Philippines Representative and Country Director Regis Chapman, along with Deputy Country Director Dipayan Bhattacharyya, Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority, IPHO-Maguindanao_Official, and the Ministry of Social Services and Development visited the distribution of iron-fortified rice for
170 community partners in Barangay Labungan, Datu Odin Sinsuat. 🍚🌾

Through the Food Assistance for Assets programme supported by the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines 在フィリピン日本国大使館 and in partnership with Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform - BARMM and the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy - BARMM, community members established vegetable gardens, nurseries, and planted fruit and non-fruit bearing trees to create a more resilient and food secure community. 💪🏽✨

More schoolchildren and farmers to benefit from school meals in ! 🌾🍲

WFP, joined by the Bangsamoro Food Security Task Force, launched the Home-Grown School Feeding Programme in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. This programme will provide healthy and nutritious meals to schoolchildren in nine schools across seven municipalities. 🍽

Through the generous support of the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines 在フィリピン日本国大使館 and the Embassy of France to the Philippines and Micronesia, the programme will also support smallholder farmers by promoting local procurement of food items for the school meals. Additionally, WFP's iron-fortified rice will be incorporated into the school menu to further improve the nutritional quality of the meals. ✨🍽

WFP formalized a partnership with the Province of Catanduanes (Catanduanes Government) by signing a memorandum of agreement focused on emergency preparedness and response. 🚨

WFP trucks are on the way! 🚚🚚

WFP is mobilizing 18 trucks from Pasay to DSWD's field offices in Koronadal and Zamboanga City to reach people affected by the severe flooding in Mindanao.

Thanks to USAID's Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance support, the trucks will transport 30,000 family food packs - enough to supply families with food for at least three days.

Newly appointed WFP Philippines Representative and Country Director Regis Chapman met with Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo today to present his letter of credentials.

Regis joined the Philippine Country Office on 27 June 2024, following his leadership at the Caribbean Multi-Country Office, where he oversaw WFP's programmes in the English and Dutch-speaking Caribbean.

Under his leadership, WFP Philippines will continue to support the Philippine Government through its Country Strategic Plan 2024-2028.

WFP facilitated a learning visit to the United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD) in and conducted other South-South and Triangular Cooperation activities for the Philippine Government. 🤝🏼

Supported by Australia in The Philippines, select officials from the Department of Social Welfare and Development - DSWD, Civil Defense PH, the Department of Foreign Affairs, Republic of the Philippines, and the Bangsamoro Government officials explored different warehouse systems and designs that can help improve existing and future disaster resource centers in the Philippines. 📝

The learning visit aims to share best practices in planning and organizing humanitarian assets, information management systems, and the development of humanitarian supply chain manuals. 📝

Community partners from Piagapo and Masiu, Lanao del Sur participated in Nutri-Go, an engaging game-based interactive activity promoting nutrition at the community level. ✨

Nutri-Go is part of the nutrition education programme facilitated by WFP-trained local health workers, which aims to communicate nutrition-related behaviors to Food Assistance for Assets participants receiving iron-fortified rice. 🍚

WFP joins the National Nutrition Council (Official) and the Department of Health (Philippines) in celebrating National Nutrition Month 2024. Together, we advocate for adequate nutrition for all Filipinos. 💪🏽

WFP held a two-day capacity needs mapping workshop on Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) with partners from the Department of Social Welfare and Development - DSWD to review the 2023-2028 work plan. 📝

Thanks to the support from USAID's Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, the workshop enabled DSWD to reassess its priorities to strengthen its EPR capacities. 💪🏽🤝🏼

WFP joins the first Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) ☀ Movement General Assembly with SUN networks from the academe, business, civil society, and development partners. The event celebrates the accomplishments of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023-2028. 📝

During the assembly, the National Nutrition Council (Official) launched a digital map of stakeholders and PPAN programmes. This map is designed to guide the SUN multisectoral partners and networks in developing work plans and identifying collaborative opportunities, marking a significant step in the country’s commitment to enhancing the nutritional well-being of Filipinos. 💪🏽🥗✨

Happening now 🔴: Fortified rice distribution in Piagapo, Lanao del Sur. 🍚

5️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ community partners from Piagapo, Lanao del Sur are currently receiving the first round of food assistance equivalent to 60 kg of fortified rice.

Under the Food Assistance for Assets (FFA) Program, community partners worked on the establishment of communal vegetable gardens 🌱, reforestation of timberland areas 🌳, small farm reservoirs 🌊 to address irrigation needs of communal gardens, post-harvest drying beds, and other assets to create self-reliant, food-secure, and resilient communities. 💪🏽✨

The FFA Program is part of the convergence activities implemented by the Bangsamoro Food Security Task Force (BFSTF). The BFSTF and local government units (LGUs) co-finance implementing the community-level activities.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform - BARMM (MAFAR), the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy - BARMM (MENRE), the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist - PLGU Lanao Del Sur, the municipal, and barangay LGUs have provided seeds, seedlings, organic fertilizers, and other farm inputs. 👩🏽‍🌾

The Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority (BPDA) has been closely involved in the validation of community partners and monitoring the asset building activities. ⚒

Through the generous support of the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines 在フィリピン日本国大使館, the FFA will reach 10,000 families this year. 🤝🏼👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

📰: SKY Perfect JSAT announced it has signed an agreement with WFP to contribute to emergency operations in the Philippines.

JSAT is the first Asian-based satellite operator to forge a partnership with WFP.
