Agri news | Cebu hosts 8th Regional Organic Agriculture Congress
Some 150 organic agriculture farmer-practitioners and enthusiasts attended a two-day Regional Organic Agriculture Congress (ROAC) with the theme, "Kabuhayang OA, Kinabukasang OK: PGS Pinalakas para sa Bagong Pilipinas", on August 7-8, 2024 held at a hotel in Cebu City,.
In his message, DA7 Regional Technical Director for Regulations, Dr. Wilberto O. Castillo, encouraged the participants to actively participate in the discussions as this will serve as avenue of exchanging knowledge, sharing of experiences and opportunties as well as learn from the organic experts and stakeholders of other provinces.
Dale Russeth Gabanes, the promotion manager of the Advocacy and Policy Division of the National Organic Agriculture Program (NOAP), who represented in behalf of NOAP Director Bernadette San Juan cited several reasons why organic agriculture should be pursued, one of which is the Sustainability in Philippine Agriculture thru Self - Sufficiency.
He shared that the country has already accredited 32 Participatory Guarantee System -Organic Certifying Bodies (PGS-OCB) as of July, 2024. This is about ten times the number of PGS in most countries.
Highlighting the ROAC is the awarding of certificate of recognition to Bohol Participatory Guarantee System (BPGSA) as second PGS-OCB (Organic Certifying Body) in Central Visayas. Certificates of Commitments were also given to proponents of the Organic Agriculture Livelihood Project (OALP) for FY 2024.

In Photos | Department of Agriculture-Central Visayas (DA7) Regional Executive Director Angel C. Enriquez presided the Management Committee (ManCom) meeting at her office today, August 5, 2024 after the two-month hiatus from the office.
Director Enriquez called the meeting to discuss the status of the 3rd quarter implementation of programs and projects, as well as the proposed 2025 plans and budget for the districts.
On the crafted 2025 plan and budget per congressional districts of the region, she suggested the inclusion of data to include the total agricultural areas, total targetted areas and the covered production areas by crop commodities with that of the budgetary allocations for a more clearer agricultural picture and support.
Other services of DA, Director Enriquez said be included in the proposal, for the congress to know that such services are provided by DA.
On the other hand, Norma Repol, chief of the Integrated Laboratory Division (ILD) reported the status of the construction of the ILD building. In addition, she shared that staff from the Regional Crop Protection Center now currently monitoring the reported pests infestation affecting some corn areas.
Repol, also shared that right after drought followed with the onset of the rainy season, some highly damaging pests will likely to occur like the fall army worm.
The Human Resource (HR) also gave an updates on staff complementation.

In her message, she shared some of the wisdom she gained within the two month period, saying “nothing is forever, do not cling into something. There is life after DA”. She shared that this year is full of challenges and trials, however, she is still optimistic, with GOD being at the center of everything, that prayer is the best weapon.
As a gesture of welcome, Director Enriquez received flowers from the members of the Management Committee (ManCom) and employees, a cake and 2 bouquets of flowers from the region and from region 8.
The region is thrilled to have her back at DA7 as her leadership and vision are greatly missed.

Agri news | KADIWA Retail goes Cebu City Barangay
Bringing the agricultural products closer to the urban dwellers, the Department of Agriculture-Central Visayas (DA7), through the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (DA7 AMAD) and the Guadalupe Community Multipurpose Cooperative (GMPC) held today, August 2, 2024 a KADIWA Retail Store in Brgy. Guadalupe, Cebu, City.
A significant partnership between a governent and a private sector, as it brings agricultural produce and products directly available to the consumers.
Five farmer association (FA) from the barangays of Tabunan, Cambinocot, Kalunasan, Sapangdako, and Pamotan showcased their fresh fruits and vegetables.
The event was attended by DA personnel, local officials and community leaders, with a
ribbon-cutting marking the opening of the KADIWA led by
Aurea M. Madrio, Chief AMAD who represented Regional Eexecutivr Director Engr. Cirilo N. Namoc.
Madrio expressed gratitude to the farmers group, sharing that the role of the KADIWA is to bridge the gap between producers (FA) and consumers.
"We are thankful for the cooperative's efforts to provide a market for our farmers, ensuring that their products reach our consumers, especially in urban areas," she stated.
Cebu City Agriculturist Joelito Baclayon reiterated Madrio's sentiments, thanking the farmers for their hard work and encouraging other barangays to participate in similar initiatives.
The KADIWA Retail Store, strategically located beside Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Church, aims to make affordable and fresh agricultural products accessible to the community whilei empowering local farmers through direct sale.
The event was also graced by GMPC Chairperson Milagros De Loyola and its board members, and AMAD staff .

Ang Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (RADDL) sa DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE VII (DA-7) gitahasan sa pagseguro nga luwas ang mga kahayopan gikan sa mga sakit pinaagi sa libre nga pag-eksamin sa mga samples niini.
Sumala ni Dr. Julius Galvan, Acting Chief sa DA-7-RADDL nga tumong sa ilang laboratoryo nga maprotektahan ang mga kahayopan gikan sa mga sakit nga motakboy kanila sama sa Avian, Influenza, Rabies, Caprine Arthritis Encephalitis (CAE), Brucella, African Swine Fever (ASF) ug uban pa.
Matud niya, pinaagi sa pagprotekta sa mga kahayopan, giprotektahan usab niini ang kahimsog sa katawhan tungod kay mokaon man kita sa karne ug sa mga produkto niini ug aron maseguro nga aduna kitay igong pagkaon gikan sa mga hayop.
Gipasabot ni Galvan nga pinaagi sa pag-eksamin sa mga samples nga gihatud sa ilang buhatan, makompirmar kun unsa nga klase sa sakit ang nitakboy sa hayop aron matambalan dayon ug makontrolar nga dili mokatap ang sakit sa ubang mga kahayopan.
Gibutyag ni Galvan nga sa niaging tuig 2023, nikabat sa 22,349 ka samples ang ilang na-eksamin sa tibook rehiyon sa Central Visayas gikan sa 1,421 ka mga kliyente ug gikan sa Enero hangtud sa Hunyo ning tuiga 2024, anaa na sa 11,455 ka samples ang ilang na-eksamin gikan sa 590 ka mga kliyente nga ilang giserbisyohan.

47 KA LGUs SA CENTRAL VISAYAS ANG NIPATUMAN SA ORGANIC AGRICULTURE
Sa 132 ka mga Local Government Units (LGUs) sa Central Visayas region, 47 lamang ka mga LGUs ang adunay ordinansa labot sa pagpatuman sa organic agriculture.
Mao kini ang gibutyag ni Mae Montecillo, Focal Person sa Organic Agriculture sa DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE VII (DA-7) atol sa programang "Usapang Agrikultura" sa DYMR - Radyo Pilipinas Cebu.
Sa maong gidaghanon, 6 ka LGU sa lalawigan sa Siquijor, 10 sa Negros Oriental, 8 sa Cebu og 23 sa Bohol.
Matud niya, adunay mga hagit ug babag nganong ang ubang mga LGUs wala mopatuman sa Organic Agriculture Act ubos sa Republic Act 11511 nga nag-amenadr sa RA 10068 sama sa kakuwang sa budget ug dili kini prioridad sa LGU.
Gumikan niini, ilang gipanghingusgan ang pag-promote sa organic agriculture ngadto sa mga kalungsuran pinaagi sa paghatag og format sa ordinansa nga sagupon sa mga LGUs aron makapahimulos sa programa.
Usa sa benepisyo gikan sa DA mao ang paghatag og pundo alang sa mga asosasyon o kooperatiba sa mga mag-uuma nga mopatuman sa 3 ka tuig nga proyekto sa organic agriculture nga mobalor og 5 milyones ka pisos pataas , depende sa project proposal sa farmer association nga aprobahan sa National Organic Agricultural Board sa tinguha nga katabangan ang mga mag-uuma gikan sa pag-andam sa ilang umahan alang sa pagpananom hangtud sa pagtumod sa ilang abot ngadto sa merkado ug ang ilang pagkahimong Certified Organic Producers ubos sa Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) sa Pilipinas.
Sa maong programa, duha ka asosasyon sa mga mag-uuma dinhi sa lalawigan sa Cebu ang nakapahimulos sa maong proyekto nga anaa sa lungsod sa Alegria ug Argao ug gikatakda kining susihon ang ilang produkto aron sa pagtino kun nakasunod ba kini sa Philippine National Standard for Organic Agriculture aron ang ilang mga produkto mabutangan na og label nga certified organic.

Matud ni Shyrra Lara, Acting Chief sa RFCAL nga ang ilang laboratoryo, moseguro nga ang mga pagkaon sa kahayopan nga gibaligya sa merkado , luwas ug de kalidad aron luwas usab kining kaonon sa katawhan.
Matud niya nga moabot sa 100 ngadto sa 200 ka mga samples matag buwan ang ilang ma-eksamin sa laboratoryo gikan sa ilang mga kliyente sama sa mga pribadong feedmills ug gikan sa akademya - mga researchers ug mga estudyante.

The upcoming national volunteers day this December (NVD) was presented by Liezl Lopez, the coordinator of the Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Council (RAFC7), requesting for support in the pre-implementation and actual conduct of the activity, as well as on logistic and funding counterpart, which the management gave a thumbs up.
Another important discussions were the review of the budget ex*****on documents 1&3 (BED 1&3) presented by the budget and accounting section, showing the status of fund allocation for the 3rd quarter. Director Namoc reiterated again the two magic words, as he always shared in his messages, which are teamwork and facilitation, adding also the need to make an action.
Catch-up plan were crafted by the banner programs and divisions concerns inorder to attain a 100% accomplishments fornthe 3rd quarter. The rice program presented their prepared catch up plan, which Director Namoc said that the plan (rice catch -up.plan) will serve as guide for the other programs in the finalization of their respective plan.
