IS RISA CONSIDERING RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT IN 2028?

In an interview with Karen Davila on ANC's "Headstart" on Tuesday, July 2, Hontiveros emphasized that, while she is not yet considering a presidential run, her priority is ensuring that the opposition fields strong candidates for president, vice president, and other positions.

Hontiveros highlighted the efforts made over the past two years to strengthen the opposition, which will continue through the midterm elections next year and into the 2028 elections.

By 2027, the goal is for the opposition to be a formidable force, taken seriously by both the administration and the voters.

Hontiveros assured that the opposition will present a different and better option for the Filipino people, regardless of the name they use, be it opposition or independent.

Hunyo 12, 1898, 126 na taon na ang nakalipas, ang kalayaan at kasarinlan ng Pilipinas ay naihayag sa Kawit, Cavite.

Ang Pilipinas noon ay nasa ilalim ng pananakop ng bansang Espanya. Malaki ang pagbabago sa kultura, tradisyon, kaugalian sibilisasyon, paniniwala at pamumuhay ng mga Pilipino, dahil sa mga impluwensiyang kanluraning dinadala ng mga Espanyol o mas tawaging "Kastila", lalong lalo na ang pagpapalaganap ng Kristiyanismo.

Sa kabila man ng mga magagandang impluwensiyang lumalaganap sa Pilipinas, hindi pa rin maganda ang pagsasama ng mga Pilipino at Kastila dahil sa pang-aapi, panggigipit, pang-uusig, paninira, pamamaliit, panlalait, pambabastos, pang-aabuso o pananakit, pangmo-molestiya at panglalapastangan ng karamihan sa mga dayuhan sa ating mga ninuno, pati na ang kawalang katarungan at hindi magandang paninigil ng buwis ng mga engkomendero at iba pang opisyal ng pamahalaang kolonyal, na siyang mga pangunahing dahilan kung bakit nag-aalsa ang mga Pilipino, lalong lalo na ng mga bayani, hanggang sa sumiklab ang himagsikan noong 1896.

Sumiklab ang digmaan ng Espanya at Estados Unidos (Amerika) noong 1898, panahon na noon ng paghina ng mga Kastila, at habang naghihimagsik ang mga Pilipino at Kubano laban sa Espanya. Nilusob ng mga Amerikano ang Pilipinas na noo'y sakop ng mga Kastila, naging katuwang sila sa mga Pilipino, tinutulungan nila ang mga naghihimagsik para makamtan na ng Pilipinas ang pinapangarap nitong kalayaan. Lumaya na ang Pilipinas at ang mga Pilipino noong Hunyo 12, 1898, ito ay inihayag sa Kawit, Cavite, pero sa tingin ng iba ay hindi pa tunay na malaya ang bayan dahil sa balak ng mga Amerikano na sila na naman ang sasakop dito.
