Wanted to have a simple minimalist wallet design that featured more subtle curves. Subtle curves are definitely challenging because its so easy to lose sight of your line while cutting.

Tool Progression: Always upgrade tools at your own pace.

I used to be of mind that craftwork is 90% tools and 10% skill. That any project could be done by anyone given that they had all the necessary tools and equipment.

Crafting is different because you don’t need special tools. What you need is to fail with the tools you have then learn. You need to develop your own unconventional methods and techniques that fit the tools and workspace you have. Only once you know how you work can you upgrade tools accordingly.

Over time you may prefer push cuts over pull cuts, awl stitching over punching, cold stamping over hot stamping, wrap designs over layered designs, the list goes on and on.

The tools you choose to upgrade are a reflection of how you specifically like to work. That’s why its best to get to know yourself first as a crafter before any major upgrades.

Prototyping something that plays more into my newly found design freedom. Leathercraft CAD is an amazing tool definitely expanding my designing abilities.

Adjustments still have to be made on this. But I like the simplicity and compactness of it.

Minimalist to the max. One piece of leather that’s it.

I love the idea of stitchless wallets since they often remind me of origami.

The art is never in the finished product but the process behind it.

Combo builds or Monotone builds which is better?

Posting this again as picture because Facebook likes to lower video quality to match your data bandwidth causing blurring issues for some users.

Funny thing I know I called this the Nebula series but when I showed it to my dad he said “Ube color?” So yeah I guess for Filipinos this is now the Halo-Halo series.

Always nice to see that leather sheen on a sunny day😍

But today it's raining and cloudly so here's an ancient chant to summon the sun gods.

"Rain, rain, go away
Come again some other day
We want to go outside and play
Come again some other day"

Marbling leather is my new favorite thing!😍

You never quite know what the pattern will be until you take it out and wipe it down. It's honestly super addicting and I might use up all my natural vegtan too soon😅

I'm do want to work on getting more consistent in regards to color vibrancy, but even without it these will all be really cool one offs.

All of these pieces were dyed with the same colors and foam yet every single one is unique in color and pattern.

Super excited to get some pieces made with these!

If anyone is interested in a marbled piece please let me know!

You buy a glove because it fits, a shoe because it fits so shouldn't your wallet also fit you?

The design process is never just "tell me what you want" and be done with it. Every piece I make is made with careful consideration into your needs, problems and use cases.

This is because leather goods are tools and as tools they are an extension of yourself meant to make the day to day easier. Therefore, not only should you get know your customers better but also constantly imagine yourselves in their shoes.

Newly finished custom wallet. This time in an all black build. Black Vegtan and Black thread. It was definitely a super a fun project that required quite a lot of thinking outside of the box.

All in all, I love how it turned out. It’s such a cool design that looks and feels amazing in hand.😊

Another Fast Wallet in natural vegtan!

Such a simple design that checks all the boxes. Perfect for people who value their time and subscribe strongly to the idea of efficiency of movement.

This wallet is designed to be spacious in key areas that allow you to easily handle cards and cash. A task that can be difficult and bothersome resulting to the old “shove the change in your pocket because its quicker”.

I love all my wallets but this one is definitely special just because of how cool it is. Definitely looking forward to making more of these!

JDL EDC Satchel - Scars are beautiful

Made out of Italian Vegetable Tanned Leather.
La Perla Azzurra Dakota Leather in Cobalt.

Ever since I started out in leather craft I have always wanted to make a bag. It just seemed like the most practical thing you could possibly make as a crafter.

But I always found it to be more challenging than I previously thought. I would run into problem after problem. To the point where I had multiple unfinished bags lying around. Some were too thick, some too thin, and some just bad designs overall.

However, I recently started working with Italian leather and found it to be an extremely durable and pliable material for handcrafting. It takes shape well, doesn’t scratch or stain easily and just is a joy to work with.

So I decided to just go for it and make a simple no nonsense bag with no pattern. Designed it around the leather and for how I use bags. One large pocket and one small pocket. Perfect for people who carry pouches rather than loose items. Minimal design on the outer panels to really capture the beauty of this leather.

All in all, I enjoyed this weekend project and proud that I finally have an amazing bag to my name!

Three Year Patina

I made this wallet 3 years ago now and it has aged beautifully.

It’s almost hard to believe that this is the same wallet. The bright blue outer shell darkened to a more uniform navy blue. The texture also flattened out making it smoother to the touch and shinier. The bright blue only really remains on the inside card pockets.

The beauty of vegetable tanned leather goods is that they age with you. They adapt to you and become unique to you through constant use.

They are a one time purchase that becomes a unique artifact of your lived experiences.

A great entry level wallet for leather enthusiasts. With this wallet you will be able to get a better feel for how truly unique leather can be. No two cuts of leather are the same Each piece has a distinct personality and pattern.

JDL Supporter Key Holder

Made out of Vegetable Tanned leather and reinforced with 3 different methods for extra durability.

Traditional Carabiners are great but are often bulky and don't allow you to customize how you wear it.

Our key holders can be hung freely, stowed away in the pocket, or looped onto the belt itself.

The swivel clasp design combined with the length of the leather also allows you to easily access door locks at waist height.

Customize Name stamping will be available soon.
Can be purchased without branding.

JDL Accordion Wallet

Spent two days and nights making my own accordion wallet. Made out of Blue Matte Mad Goat and Teal Mad Goat leather.

This was such a fun build because I knew from the get go it would turn out to be a really cool and interesting wallet.

I really wanted to key in on the experience you get when using wallets.

1. Having a locking mechanism whether that be a zipper or a snap button serves as a tactile reminder that you secured your wallet properly.

2. Wallet designs that open up toward you also provide that extra sense of privacy. Perfect for use in crowded or sketchy areas.

3. Having the option between carrying more cards or coins is also an added benefit in most use cases. Cash is still king in most countries.

I hope in the future I can make this in more colors. But, for now I’m using what I got and add more when I can.

April 16, 2024 - Day 1.2 Natural Vegtan Card Holder

Okay so it hasn't even been one full day but I couldn't stand the imperfections of the first iteration. Especially since those imperfections were easily avoidable.

But then again with leather craft you learn quicker by crafting as much as you can. This is because all hides are different and you have to learn to adjust your techniques reflecting the characteristics of the specific cut you have infront of you.

For the second iteration I already knew what to expect going into it.

I needed to trim the inner sleeve a couple of millimeters to account for how thick and rigid this leather is. I also needed to skive down all the edges as much as I could to allow my punches to stay straight without shifting.

There was also the unexpected problem of the flesh side being too fleshy. So I shaved as much as I could then coated the whole flesh side with gum trag.

Lastly, I took a lot more time preparing my stitching holes by punching both sides, connecting them with an awl, and then using my punches again to reform the stitching holes. This allowed me to keep a more consistent stitching pattern on both sides avoiding ugly protrusions.

All in all, I am much more satisfied with the outcome of this second piece.
