Alegrias doing good in Highland Boxing Gym

BAGUIO CITY -- The Alegrias of Davao City are doing good in boxing at the Highland Boxing Gym in Benguet, La Trinidad..

They are headed by their father, Alan Alegria, 59, the many-time former Philippine welterweight champion,.

They are also composed of siblings Joel Alden, 32 and Alan John, 28 who helped the training of the professional boxers of manager Brico Santig.

The gym of the Highland Boxing Gym is located Infront of the strawberry fields of Beguet.

The other son Alexis Marvin, 36, is also helping Santig in doing the paper works for the Games and Amusement Board in Manila.

Alan started working for Brico Santig 18 years ago as an assistant matchmaker in Manila.

"I started as assistant of Brico working for the paper works and also as a trainer in Manila," said Alan.

Sometimes, Alan goes to Baguio to training but he prefers Manila. But Alan finally opted to stay in Baguio after the Highland Gym in Manila was close.

The family of Brico's sister Jennifer and husband Francis Verzosa also decided to go back from Manila to Baguio due to pandemic.

Francis, 46, now helps the management of Highland Boxing Gym while Alan handles the coaching job.

Also coaching are former super bantamweight Jaypee Alipio of Bataan and Brico's elder brother Eric, 48.
