Three Cheers to Brod Teodoro Javier Herbosa, MD Φ1979 for receiving the UPAA Presidential Award by the University of the Philippines Alumni Association (UPAA) on August 17, 2024!

Brod Ted graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from UP Diliman in 1979, and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the UP College of Medicine in 1983. He previously served as the Undersecretary at the DOH from 2010-2015 and the Executive Vice President of the UP System from 2017-2021. He has served as a consultant in various international collaborations on hospital and emergency preparedness, surgical safety, and the improvement of healthcare systems. He was appointed as Secretary of the Department of Health in 2023 and is currently working towards achieving an eight-point action agenda towards formalizing Universal Healthcare in the country.

Three Cheers to Brod Jose Jonas Diño Del Rosario, MD, FPPS, FPPC Φ1986 for receiving the DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD in Medicine from the University of the Philippines Alumni Association on August 17, 2024! The UPAA grants the Distinguished Alumni Awards to individuals with outstanding achievements in their fields of endeavor.

Brod Jonas graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from UP Diliman in 1986, and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the UP College of Medicine in 1991. He was previously awarded as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) in the field of Medicine in 2004, the Philippine Heart Association Distinguished Scientist award in 2007, and the Dangal ng Bayan award in 2021. Currently, he serves as a clinical associate professor at the University of the Philippine College of Medicine along with being the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology and Spokesperson of the Philippine General Hospital.

Three Cheers to Brod Christopher Salamaed Constantino MD, FPARM Φ2009 for being appointed as CHAIR of the Mentoring Program of the University of the Philippines College of Medicine!

Brod Topher presently holds the position of Associate Professor in the Department of Anatomy of the UP College of Medicine and serves as an Attending Physician in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of the UP Philippine General Hospital.

He is also concurrently the Executive Director of the Philippine Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine, and the Editor-in-Chief for the ASEAN Rehabilitation Medicine Association.

Three Cheers to Brods Alexis Urmatan San Diego Φ2022 and Justin Matthew Rapanut Lapastora Φ2023 for being elected Liaison Officer to the Alumni, and appointed National Exchange Officer of the Asian Medical Students’ Association - Philippines!

Brod Axel is currently a Clinical Clerk (Learning Unit 6) and had recently graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Basic Medical Sciences from the Integrated Liberal Arts and Medicine (INTARMED) program in March of 2024. He served with distinction as the President of the UP Medical Students for Social Responsibility (UP MSSR) from 2023 to 2024.

Brod Justin is currently an Integrated Clinical Clerk (Learning Unit 5). He has held multiple positions in UP MSSR, serving as Commissioner for Nature and Environment (2022-2023), International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) Officer (2023-2024). He also served as a General Delegate for the Human Rights and Peace Session in the 2024 Asia Pacific Regional Meeting in Thailand.

Last June 22, the UP Pre-Medical Society conducted its annual Medical Mission at Brgy 129, Tondo Manila.

With over 15 volunteer medical students and doctors from the Phi Kappa Mu Fraternity, we were able to give free medical checkups and prescriptions to over 100 residents in the area 🫶🏻

We were also able to give free nutritional counseling with the help of UP PAN-ALPHA, further expanding our community of giving it life.

Three Cheers to Brod Ronnie Enriquez Baticulon, MD, FAFN Φ2003 for receiving the 2024 UPMASA Missouri-Southern Illinois Chapter Outstanding Teacher in Clinical Sciences Award during the 115th Commencement Exercises of the U.P. College of Medicine held last August 4, 2024 at the University Theater, U.P. Diliman!

Brod Ronnie graduated Cum Laude from the U.P. College of Medicine in 2008, and completed his residency training in Neurosurgery at the Philippine General Hospital in 2014. He pursued further training abroad with a fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. He currently practices as a Pediatric Neurosurgeon with the Division of Neurosurgery, Department of Neurosciences, at the Philippine General Hospital and is concurrently the Communications Vice Chair of the International Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery, and the Education Co-Chair, Asian Australasian Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery.

Three Cheers to Brod Frinz Moey Caunes Rubio, MD, FPSP Φ2015 SE 2019-2020 and his team for being the first ever CHAMPIONS of The Medical City Ortigas Department of Internal Medicine’s Inter-Hospital Quiz Bee held last July 31, 2024 at the Barcelon Auditorium of the The Medical City, Ortigas!

Brod Frinz and his team made history as the first champions of RE-IGNITE: An Inter-Hospital Quiz Bee hosted by the Department of Internal Medicine of The Medical City Ortigas and participated in by 14 other institution teams. Alongside Brod Frinz are Dr. Martin Pe Benito, and Dr. Stephen Elijah Pasol.

Brod Frinz graduated Cum Laude from the UP College of Medicine last 2020. He is currently in his 3rd Year of Internal Medicine residency training at St. Luke's Medical Center Quezon City (SLMC-QC), acting also as the Chief Resident of the Department of Medicine. In June of this year he was certified as Fellow of the Philippine Society of Physiologists.

Three Cheers to Brod Karlos Noel Rojas Aleta, MD, MHPEd, FPCS, FPATACSI, FPAMITS, Φ1991, for completing his Masters Degree in Health Professions Education at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine! His Master’s Thesis focuses on Self-Directed Learning of Preclinical Medical Students in Basic Surgical Skills through Remote Teaching.

Brod Kaloy graduated from the UP College of Medicine in 1996. He completed his residency training in General Surgery at the Philippine General Hospital in 2001 where he also pursued and finished TCVS fellowship training in 2004. Brod Kaloy furthered his training abroad by taking up Advanced Thoracoscopic Surgery/VATS at the Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery, in Caceres, Spain. On top of his professional practice as a TCVS surgeon, he teaches at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila College of Medicine, and San Beda College of Medicine.

Three Cheers to Brod Chito Caimoy Permejo, MD, FPCP, FPCC, FPSCCM Φ1996B for completing his Masters of Science Degree in Physiology at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine! His Master’s Thesis focuses on the role of protein supplementation on critically ill patients admitted in the ICU.

Brod Chito graduated from the UP College of Medicine in 2001 and pursued residency training in Internal Medicine at the Davao Doctors Hospital. He completed further fellowship training in Cardiology and Critical Care at the Philippine Heart Center in 2008 and 2009 respectively. He is currently practicing as an Adult Critical Care Cardiologist at the Philippine Heart Center. An avid researcher, Brod Chito has written and published several papers on the topics of heart failure, hemodynamics, and point of care ultrasound on critically-ill patients.

Congratulations, Brod! Your academic milestone shines as an achievement to be celebrated and emulated as a model of PHI Excellence!

Three Cheers to Brod Manuel Sabalo Vidal, Jr., RCh, MD-PhD, Φ2014 for successfully completing his Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Philosophy in Molecular Medicine program from the UP College of Medicine!

His dissertation entitled, “Evaluation of effects of endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs) on placental function in a placenta-on-a-chip model”, was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Grace Fe B. Yu of the UP College of Medicine and Dr. Ramkumar Menon of the University of Texas Medical Branch.

Brod Mavi completed his Doctor of Medicine in 2020. Afterwards, in 2023, he finished his post-doctoral Research Fellowship in the Division of Basic and Translational Research, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Texas, USA. He was also given the prestigious Best New Investigator Poster Presentation Award in 2023 during the 70th Society of Reproductive Investigation Annual Meeting in Brisbane, Australia.

He is currently a medical resident under the Department of Family and Community Medicine, Sta. Ana Hospital. He also serves as Co-chair of the Public Health Unit of the hospital.

He is also a faculty member of the San Beda University College of Medicine, The Manila Times University College of Medicine, and the De La Salle University Manila. To this date, Brod Mavi has 15 publications, mostly on obstetrics and public health. As he continues his journey as a physician-scientist, he is currently involved in active research on preeclampsia and liver cancer.

Three Cheers to Brod Marvin Relato Balaan, MD, FCCP, Φ1975 SE 1978-1979 for upholding PHI Excellence and Service as the 2024 UPMASA Excellence in Medical Education Awardee! The prestigious award was given at the UPMASA 39th Annual Grand Convention in Seattle from July 3-7, in recognition of his tireless dedication to promoting quality Medical Education.

Brod Marvin graduated from the UP College of Medicine in 1979 and pursued residency training in Internal Medicine at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, New York, in which he served as Chief Resident in his final year in 1984. He pursued fellowship training in Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine in the following years. Brod Marvin began his academic career as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and subsequently Associate Professor and Director of the Pulmonary Function Laboratory and Respiratory Care Services at the West Virginia University School of Medicine. His academic positions include Professor of Clinical Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine, and adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. Brod Marvin was also recently recognized as one of Pittsburgh's Best Doctors in Pulmonary Medicine for 2024.

Last July 1-2, 2024, after a long hiatus, the Brods and Sisses of the Phi Kappa Mu Fraternity and the Phi Lambda Delta Sorority joyously returned to the beaches of Dagupan and Lingayen, Pangasinan. Three Cheers to Brods Manuel Sabalo Vidal, Jr., RCh, MD-PhD, Φ2014 and Edroico Mari Beltran Brillante, MD, Φ2015 for being recognized as MEMBERS of the Philippine Society of Physiologists, and Brod Frinz Moey Caunes Rubio, MD, FPSP Φ2015 SE 2019-2020 for being certified as FELLOW of the Philippine Society of Physiologists last June 28, 2024 at the 43rd PSP Annual Convention held at the UP College of Medicine!

Brod Mavi earned his Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Molecular Medicine degree from the University of the Philippines – Manila and currently serves as a part-time faculty member in the Department of Physiology at San Beda University – College of Medicine. He was a research fellow at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Texas, USA.

Brod Oico graduated from the UP College of Medicine last 2020 under the Integrated Liberal Arts and Medicine Program. He is currently a Junior Faculty of the San Beda University - College of Medicine in the Anatomy Department and Physiology Department. He is also a Faculty of the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center and De La Salle University - College of Science.

Brod Frinz graduated cm laude from the UP College of Medicine last 2020. He is currently in his 3rd Year of Internal Medicine residency training at St. Luke's Medical Center Quezon City (SLMC-QC), acting also as the Chief Resident of the Department of Medicine.

Three Cheers to Brod Emmanuel Salvador Lingan Barias Φ1990B for being recognized as the recipient of Gintong Medalya for Medicine Award in the 2024 Search for Dangal ng Lahing Cagayano! This prestigious award is given by the Provincial Government of Cagayan in recognition of world-class talents, excellence, and contribution to the community and the society of distinguished Cagayanos.

Brod Manny graduated from the UP College of Medicine in 1995 and pursued a Family Medicine residency program in the United States to primarily provide healthcare to children and pregnant women. In 2001, he established the Doktor Ko Program that would benefit several towns in Cagayan. The Doktor Ko Program aimed to give access to healthcare in smaller communities where there were no doctors. In 2007, he also received the Amazing Asian award in recognition of his efforts for the West Michigan Asian community.
