Honoured by former President of Italy Carlo Azeglio Ciampi as "Artist of High National and International Value" Alessio Benvenuti comes from a long dynasty of musicians - starting way back in the 17th century with Girolamo Benvenuti who was one of the violin teachers of Arcangelo Corelli, the great Italian Baroque composer and violinist credited to be a key figure in the development of modern violin technique as well as the sonata and concerto form. Alessio’s father Roberto, was an amateur double bass player and his uncle Fernando is an organist and hammondist.
Alessio Benvenuti began studying the piano at the age of three, and at the age of four he started on the violin with Ivette Gregorian. He continued his childhood studies with Maestro Sergio Marzi and at the age of eight he became a private student of legendary Maestro Guido Agosti for the piano, who discovered him during a masterclass course at the "Accademia Musicale Chigiana" in Siena. He graduated privately in violin and piano at the "Luigi Cherubini" Conservatory in Florence under the guidance of Maestro Tiberio Horvat for violin and Maestro Orazio Frugoni for piano.
He performed in public for the first time at the age of six, performing at the piano music of Bach, Mozart and Beethoven, and at the age of eight, he also performed on the organ, among other pieces, the "Toccata and Fugue" by Bach. At the age of twelve, he performed the "24 Caprices" for solo violin by Niccolò Paganini, followed by a series of chamber concerts and a series about the six "Sonatas and Partitas" for solo violin by Bach. Starting from 1986 he attended several masterclasses with the great Polish violinist Henryk Szeryng at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena. There he also performed at masterclasses with Franco Gulli, Boris Belkin, and for more than eight years he became the student of Maestro Uto Ughi, who he considers as his main violin teacher. He also studied Riccardo Brengola who taught him chamber music.
He continued his studies with Dorothy DeLay at the famous Juilliard School of Music and Drama in New York. In 2004 he obtained a "Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Performance" at the Royal College of Music in London where he studied with Maestro Yuri Zhislin for violin, Maestro Andrew Ball for piano and accompaniment for instruments and singers, and Maestro Neil Thomson for conducting. He was a regular piano accompanist in the singing class of the Welsh tenor Ryland Davies. During his time at the Royal College of Music he became an assistant in the recording studio, and studied composition, arrangement and electronic music for film and television, while for performance he attended special courses in Baroque and Ancient music.
Since 1996 he has been part of more than than two thousand concerts in the United States, South America, Central America, Asia, Tunisia, Italy and throughout Europe, collaborating with many Italian orchestras such as the 'Orchestra dell'Opera' del Teatro alla Scala and the 'Filarmonica della Scala' in Milan, the 'Orchestra Sinfonica' dell'Emilia Romagna, and concertmaster of the 'Orchestra Sinfonica' in Roma conducted by Maestro Francesco la Vecchia. For many years he was also violinist of the chamber orchestra "I Solisti Veneti" conducted by Maestro Claudio Scimone. He has collaborated with the greatest conductors including Riccardo Muti, Claudio Abbado, Yuri Temirkanov, Janos Furst and the Japanese Maestro Chosei Komatsu, who had him as violinist at the Orquesta Nacional de Costa Rica for three years.
As a conductor, Alessio has led the Orquesta Juvenil y Infantil of Medellin (Colombia), and the Palestinian Youth Orchestra. In 2019 and 2022 he collaborated with the Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra with a concert on the music of Vivaldi and later on with the music of Mozart that established his artistic presence in the Philippines as violinist, pianist and conductor.
Aside from being a performer, Benvenuti also created his own compositions and arrangements. As a recording artist he had recorded the complete "Sonatas and Partitas" by Bach, "24 Capricci" op.1 by Paganini, as well as the "Six sonatas for solo violin" by Eugene Ysaye.
As a violin teacher he was a faculty member at the 'High School for Music' in Arezzo and chamber music at the Conservatory of Siena.
