The person who attacks the problems of life actively is like a man who removes each successive leaf from his calendar and files it neatly and carefully away with its predecessors, after first having jotted down a few diary notes on the back. He can reflect with pride and joy on all the richness set down in these notes, on all the life he has already lived to the fullest. What will it matter to him

10 Visuals That Will Change The Way You Think

13/06/2024

I once saw that you only need five minutes of happiness in a day to survive. I remember it was from a drama, My Liberation Notes. Five minutes of happiness is a concept that Yeom Mijeong, the female lead, shared to Mr. Gu, the male lead, during their late night meal together. “Just five minutes of happiness in a day, then life would become bearable,”

That really change my trajectory in life. Five minutes is not even a quarter of time we have in a day; yet, it can create a genuine source of reason to survive. I guess that makes sense for me,

What are your five minutes of happiness today?

As it relates to friendship, I’ve learned that you never really lose friends, you just find out who the real ones are. So if you're a good person and someone doesn't value you, you need to put yourself first and walk away. When you do that, the other person loses you as a friend; you don't lose anyone or anything. The same perspective can also be applied to family, romantic, and other types of relationships.

The 100-Hour Rule: A note on Beating the 95%

It only takes 100 hours to go from knowing nothing to knowing more than 95% of the population (!!!) which is enough to make you competent in that area, or even to set you apart. If you can dedicate 100 hours to something, then you’ll be substantially more proficient, qualified, and skilled towards whatever it is you’re working towards, and to that end, possibly even more so than 95% of your peers! Amazing.

“We do not have to be smarter than the rest, we have to be more disciplined than the rest. You must be disciplined in thought, word, and deed. Consciously train yourself to do those things that are good for you. We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment.”

Life is full of lessons!

When you are flying high, it can be difficult to understand the struggles of those that aren’t on your path. It can also be difficult to understand the ways of the successful when you are shuffling with the chickens.

Rock bottom will teach you lessons that mountain tops never will, so keep your eyes and ears open, constantly learn from what you're going through. The lessons at the bottom are the ones that will pull you out and let you fly higher than you ever thought possible.

"Greatness surely comes after failure"

Everything - including failure - happens for a reason.
Everything takes place for a purpose.

Though this truth is hard to comprehend until looking back on your life in hindsight, failure always comes into our lives for the purpose of revealing character.

Failure comes into our lives to reveal qualities in us that we could never discover any other way.Failures shows us who we are in true sense.
Smiling, laughing, and celebrating through good times is great.
But good times don’t show you who you are.Hard times do.
Good times don’t show you how resilient, purposeful, determined, creative, strong-minded, resourceful, motivated, and intelligent you are.
Only failure can do that.

Failure is life’s universal test for pushing and elevating us into deeper levels of who we are.
Struggling through and overcoming painful situations, tough problems, tragic losses, setbacks, and moments of sadness reveals our best nature.
Suffering through the worst brings out the best in us.
A powerful example of this is—world-changing and record-setting author of The Harry Potter series—J.K. Rowling.

When the chips are down, keep in mind that even though you’re in the middle of the worst failure of your life, your greatest success lies ahead of you somewhere in your future.

HARRISON FORD’S ADVICE: “STICK IT OUT”

- by Billy Oppenheimer -

Before he was Han Solo or Indiana Jones, Harrison Ford was a carpenter.

In 1964, Ford moved to Hollywood to become an actor.

“But I arrived on a metaphoric bus full of people who had the same ambition,” he said.

So he came up with this plan to prevail over the competition:

As Ford spent time around the other aspiring actors on that metaphoric bus, he became aware of something:

Most of them were in a hurry.

They were in a hurry to “make it” or to make lots of money or to prove something to someone.

Whatever the reason, most were on a tight timeline.

So Ford's plan was to do the opposite: to lengthen his timeline.

To do so, Ford said, "I had to have another source of income. So I became a carpenter."

“By doing carpentry," he explained, "I was able to wait it out.

And as the years went by, the attrition rate eliminated many of those people from the competition pool until finally, there were only a few of us left on the bus from that entering class.

I always saw life that way—you just have to find a way to stick it out, to prevail.”

Takeaway 1:

I once heard the author Robert Greene give advice to an aspiring musician. Robert listened to some of their music and thought the musician was talented. Then he simply said, “You must immerse yourself in a universe of music.”

Ford chose carpentry because he thought—since Hollywood is an everybody-knows-everybody kind of town—a carpentry job could lead to acting jobs.

Indeed.

Ford immersed himself in the Hollywood universe and became known as the "carpenter to the stars." His roster of clients included Francis Ford Coppola, James Caan, Richard Dreyfuss, and Joan Didion.

Most famously, in the mid 1970s, Ford was building "an elaborate portico entrance" at Coppola's offices where Coppola's friend, George Lucas, was leading casting meetings for Star Wars.

A few years earlier, after Ford had played Bob Falfa in Lucas' "American Graffiti," Lucas sent out a memo to the agents of the actors in Graffiti just to explicitly say that he wasn't going to cast any of them in his next project.

"Ford found acting jobs scare since American Graffiti," one biographer explains. And so when he was working on that elaborate portico entrance, Ford said, “and I was asked by George if I would read with the other actors, there was no indication that I might be considered for a part in the film."

"I read with about 300 actors, and weeks later, they asked me if I wanted to play Han Solo."

Takeaway 2:

Ford's “stick it out” strategy is a civilian version of what military strategists refer to as "winning through attrition."

In a study of the major wars that shaped the course of history, the strategist and historian B.H. Liddell Hart found that only 2% of battles were won as a result of a direct attack.

The majority of successful armies throughout history, Hart writes, all had the “power of endurance to last.”

As Ford put it, "You just have to find a way to stick it out, to prevail.”

Kenyan runner Abel Mutai was a few meters from the finish line but got confused by the signals and stopped, thinking he had finished the race.

The Spanish runner, Ivan Fernandez, was right behind him and, realizing what was happening in front of him, began shouting for the Kenyan to keep running.

Motai did not know Spanish and did not understand.

Fernandez pushed Mutai to victory.

One reporter asked Evan, "Why did you do this?" Evan replied, "My dream is that one day we can have the kind of community life that pushes ourselves and others to win as well."

"But why did you let the Kenyan win?" the reporter insisted. Evan replied, "I didn't let him win, he would win. It was his race."

The reporter insisted and asked again: "But you could have won!"

Evan looked at him and replied, "But what is the merit of my victory? What is the honor of this medal? What will my mother think?"

Values are passed on from generation to generation.

What values do we teach our children and to what extent do they inspire others to earn them?

Most of us take advantage of people's weaknesses rather than helping to strengthen them.

As we are coming up on the holiday season, this is your annual reminder to be nice to hospitality employees, even when they get it wrong.

Working countless hours, eating on your feet, missing out on festivities with friends and family, and wearing yourself thin are things all hospitality workers will be familiar with over the next couple of months.

So, if they do get it wrong, and your coffee comes with the wrong syrup.. or they forget to swap your salad for chips, or, God forbid, you order no ice .. and your drink comes with ice, remember how hard they're working to try and make your experience special.

Be nice. It costs nothing.

When the elegant actress was asked: "Why don't you have a plastic surgery?"

She answered... "I will never allow them to remove the wrinkles in my forehead, because they are the result of my amazement at the beauty of life, or those on my mouth, because it shows how much I laughed and how much I kissed, not even the black spots under my eyes, because behind it I hide the memories of my sadness and cry.

They are part of me and I love their beauty... I will preserve my facial features because they're an indicator of my life experiences."
