As we celebrate the 78th anniversary of UNITED NATIONS Day with the theme "FREEDOM, EQUALITY, AND JUSTICE FOR ALL", we are vividly presenting to you our minor events in the morning, offering you such a battle of brainpower and higher level of unimaginable artistic skills of our competitively valued students.
This will happen on October 24,2023!.

As our celebration for UNITED NATION will finally happen on October 24 ,2023 ( TUESDAY ), we would like to present to you the mechanics and the criteria for judging of the highlight of our celebration—
The SEARCH FOR MR AND MS UNITED NATION 2023!

MECHANICS:

• The participants must be a bona fide student of SMRC
– For high school Department, one female and male representative per year level
– For college Department, one female and male representative per year level

• The participants are required of the following;
– In production number, participants must wear white clothes and black pants for boys; and white clothes and black shorts/skirts for girls. Both pairs will wear white rubber shoes. There must be a flag pasted on the front of their shirt to signify which country they represent in the competition.
– In costume presentation, participants are required to present the national costume of the country they represented. Rented costumes are allowed or they are allowed to make and design their national costume.

• The make-up artists should be a bona fide students and faculty advisers of SMRC.

•Each candidate will be given 3 minutes ( maximum ) for their free speech which is related to the theme.

• After the free speech, the final four will be chosen based on the total of the preliminary scores.

• The Q and A round will be given after the announcement of the final four. The questions will not be provided before the event.

• The winners will be announced after all the candidates have delivered their answer to the questions. They will be ranked based on the scores they got during the A and A round.

As we commemorate our Independence Day, may we always uphold our values to safeguard our independence and may we always express ourselves without restraint and fight for the nation's freedom.

"Aba Ginoong Maria." Why do we address Mary as Ginoo? Why not Ginang or Binibini? Isn't the word "ginoo" equivalent to "mister"?

Well that was not the case during the Spanish colonial period or even earlier. The Vocabulario de la Lengua Tagala (1860) defined ginoo as a title reserved for the members of the maginoo (nobility), whether male or female. However, "maginoo" was often used for men while "ginoo" for women. There is no entry for the word "ginang" in the 1860 Vocabulario because the term did not exist during that time. It appears that the term "ginang" was a later invention to distinguish a female (ginang) from a male (ginoo) copying Western dichotomies of female versus male titles, as in señora vs. señor, doña vs. don, and Mrs. vs. Mr. Most of the original Tagalog nouns were gender neutral.

It is undeniable that everyone has the freedom to choose their own style and clothing. However, we should not disregard the importance of dressing appropriately in certain situations. There are occasions where formality is required, and it is important to adhere to it.

For instance, in schools, although clothing does not hinder our academic performance, it is crucial to observe the dress code. This applies not only in schools, but also in the workplace. Unless the dress code discriminates against one's rights, it is harmless to follow it.

One might ask, what if a transgender or gay individual wants to wear clothing that aligns with their preferred gender? In this case, schools should revise their dress code policies. Clothing does not impede our learning, and it is only fair to let our LGBTQ members wear what they feel comfortable in. It is essential to remember that some of them may be struggling with gender dysphoria.

In summary, while we have the right to dress as we please, it is important to observe formality in certain situations. Dress codes should not discriminate against anyone's rights and should be revised to accommodate the needs of all individuals, including those who identify as LGBTQ.
