Online classes are about to start and here are some helpful tips from our experiences:

1. SET PERSONAL GOALS.
Start your academic year with your goals in mind. When you set goals that are personally important, you’re more likely to manage your time in a way to accomplish them. Keep that passion burning, and always remember why you started.

2. MANAGE YOUR TIME.
Success in online study boils down to one skill that can be applied to everything you do in life: Time Management. Set a schedule and stick with it to keep you structured. Do not wait for your tasks to pile up before accomplishing them. Divide your tasks and allot some time for it (e.g. allocating 2 hours per subject). Review materials in small portions so you’re not cramming everything into one day, stressing out, and trying to hurry and get everything done at the last minute.

3. ELIMINATE DISTRACTIONS.
Choose a quiet place. Situate yourself in a part of your house that is away from distractions. You don't want a barking dog in your background when your professor calls you to recite. Pick a place where you think you can focus the most.

4. SET YOUR "FOCUS HOURS".
Set a time that you think your brain is at its most active state. Some like to study early in the morning while others prefer to do it at night. Pick this time to review your materials. Focus; which means you should avoid your social media at this hours.

5. BE MENTALLY ENGAGED.
Allow yourself to become absorbed in studying. When you don't understand a concept, read or watch the material over and over again until it finally makes sense. Keep in mind that you need to understand this concept without pressuring yourself. Again, eliminate distractions and focus on the task on hand.

6. USE ONLINE RESOURCES.
Make sure you learn how to navigate the platform used by your school. Master it and learn its details to keep you on track. Also, use online resources that could help you with your assignments. Examples of these would be grammar and plagiarism checkers.

7. TAKE NOTES.
Write down important points. Just like in a traditional classroom setting, taking notes may make it easier to remember the important pieces of information you will need to retain. You could listen to an online discussion or a pre-recorded video and end up not remembering anything in the end. Jotting down notes never fails you.

8. REST.
Do not exhaust yourself. When you feel like you're tired, take a rest. Rest doesn't mean navigating your social media. Rest means taking a break from technology, a breath of fresh air, and sleeping.

9. EAT HEALTHY, BE HEALTHY.
Our brain can only work to its fullest if our body is well. Have regular breaks that involve exercise and fresh air and eat good food! Preparing a healthy meal or going for a walk is not wasting your time. Eating well, getting plenty of sleep and taking regular breaks for 10-15 mins to stretch the arms and legs helps keep focus and avoids eye strain from computer monitors. Most importantly, stay hydrated!

10. REWARD YOURSELF.
It always seems to be easier to motivate ourselves when we know there's something waiting for us at the finish line. Everytime you finish a task, treat yourself with something you want. It could be a food, or a little activity you're passionate about. Do not be too absorbed and immediately forgetting how to have fun. Everything is good, but in moderation.

Let us all be ready for this new normal. Stay safe and hydrated! ❤
