Donโt Play Tricks on Your Teeth This Halloween! ๐ป๐
Happy Halloween๐๐ป from our team at Abesamis-Cruz Orthodontics & Dental Center. Who doesnโt love being a kid on Halloween? Trick-or-treating, costume parties, school parades, we all want our kids to have fun on Halloween, but we also want them to be healthy and safe. Too much candy will not only damage childrenโs teeth, it can have a negative effect on their overall health. Have a wonderful Halloween and call for an appointment, with no tricks!
Flossing every day will dislodge pesky food particles and will help prevent plaque buildup in places your toothbrush can't reach. We also recommend that you floss thoroughly, which only takes about 1-2 minutes of your day.
Here I am again, sounding like your mom! But seriously friends, how long has it been since you replaced your toothbrush? If it's been too long to remember, it's time to toss the thing and get a new one. Here are the important reasons why ...
1. Toothbrush bristles get worn out after several months and become less effective, giving plaque and cavities more opportunities to infiltrate your mouth. Not good!
2. Many of us have gum disease (P.S. If your dentist has ever commented that you have receding gums in places, you probably have gum disease, AKA gingivitis), and your toothbrush could be harboring germs that could further damage and inflame your gums.
3. While it's a debated topic, some experts say you should also toss a toothbrush after you've been sick. While it's unlikely that you'll "re-infect" yourself with the same illness you've recovered from, certain sicknesses do come with re-infection risks. Safer bet: Toss your brush.
Do you notice blood when you brush your teeth or soreness in your gums? Hereโs what you need to know if you are experiencing these very common symptoms.
Why Are My Gums Sore & Bleeding?
Your brushing habits could be to blame for this problem. Gums are a vital part of your dental health, as well as your overall well-being. Ignoring them can lead to serious problems like gum disease. Along with brushing twice a day, you should be flossing daily, avoiding sugary drinks and snacks, avoiding to***co, and making regular check-ups with your dentist.
Change Your Brushing Technique:
One of the leading causes of sore gums is the way you brush. You may think aggressively brushing your teeth helps remove the plaque. In reality, it does more harm than it does good. Being too aggressive can make your gums tender and cause bleeding. Next time you brush, make sure you are gentle with your teeth. Use circular motions with a soft bristled toothbrush to ensure your gums are protected.
Change Your Flossing Technique:
Be gentle with your gums, especially if they are tender. Take your time and make sure you ease the floss in and out of the gaps between your teeth. Even if your gums are sore, itโs important to continue to floss every day to make sure no plaque is left behind after brushing.
If nothing is working, or if you are concerned about gum disease, scheduling an appointment with a dentist might be the best course of action.

Brushing your teeth is something most of us try to get done quickly right as weโre about to run out the door or crawl into bed. But this simple daily activity is the most basic way we can keep our smiles healthy! We recommend brushing at least twice a day for at least two minutes. Brushing with a sturdy toothbrush (electric ones are the best!) helps to remove plaque that can build up and cause decay on your teeth, and it can even help your breath smell better! Donโt take brushing your teeth for grantedโit could help make your smile last a lifetime!

How Good Dental Care Can Help You During COVID-19
Poor oral hygiene is considered a high-risk factor for COVID-19 comorbidities, particularly for those suffering from diabetes, hypertension or cardiovascular diseases. In fact, maintaining good oral hygiene can help mitigate the disease. Here are a few things you can do to maintain your oral health, especially in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
Habits formed due to COVID-19 could lead to oral health problems.
Frequent snacking and fewer dental visits, among other behavioral changes adopted due to COVID-19 measures could lead to a variety of oral health problems. Lockdown measures saw many Filipinos spend more time at home, as a result, a change in consumer habits and routines that may have affected their overall oral health. Compared to before the pandemic, Philippine consumers claimed to have increased their consumption of snacks: coffee or tea, frozen treats and packaged fruit juice, and soft drinks. Increased consumption of these types of food and beverages, has a pronounced effect on oral health, especially in the accelerated wear on tooth enamel that cannot be restored naturally by the body.
Filipinos need to take comprehensive measures in terms of maintaining their oral health. Self-management practices with the use of specialized products, avoiding sugary food and drinks, and consulting a dentist form a holistic approach to oral care that Filipinos across the country can benefit from in the long term.

Maintain healthy dental habits during COVID-19 pandemic
It is vital that we continue practicing good dental habits and eating a healthy, low sugar diet to maintain our oral health. Be aware of proper brushing and flossing techniques.
In times of stress, people often clench and grind their teeth, or what is also known as parafunction. Patients should be aware if they are experiencing increased stress and take steps to ensure that they are not negatively impacting their oral health.
Dental Offices Covid-19 Safety Protocols
The following guidelines for dentistry are still the recommended protocols as the vaccination plan continues to expand and reach more of the population. Now is not the time to relax the measures that have effectively protected the dental community and patient base during this pandemic. Precautionary measures should be applied to control COVID-19 in dental practice.
Regardless of the type of treatment planned we always follow rigid protocols related to dressing and personal protective equipment. Hair caps, protective goggles, surgical masks or N95, isolation/surgical gowns, special footwears, and protective visors are essential.
We are fully equipped with extra-oral vacuum machine (for aerosol), high volume evacuator machine, acrylic barrier, air filter, fogging machine, UV light sterilizer and so on...because YOUR SAFETY IS OUR PRIORITYโค๏ธ
Vaccinate as soon as you can!
Vaccination is a critical tool to help stop the pandemic.
Wishing you all a happy, safe and healthy Easter!!! Your smile is your best decoration๐
