Manila Pianos Artist Series presents Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade op.35 transcribed for the woodwind quintet by Ioan Dobrinescu featuring the Rivera Woodwind Quintet.

The Rivera Woodwind Quintet is composed of: Jayson Rivera, clarinet, Crystal Milarose Rodis-Concepcion, flute, Earvin Rosacay, horn, Arvin Jan Medrano, oboe & Alvin Sison, bassoon.

The recital will be on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 6 pm.
Venue is at Manila Pianos showroom, 4/F Ronac Lifestyle Center, Paseo de Magallanes, Makati City.

The Program :

Scheherazade is a symphonic suite composed by Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov and is based on the One Thousand And One Nights. It is composed of four movements :

1. The Sea and Sinbad's Ship
2. The Story of the Kalendar Prince
3. The Young Prince and the Young Princess
4. Festival at Baghdad. The Sea. The Ship Breaks against a Cliff Surmounted by a Bronze Horseman

Rimsky-Korsakov, himself, wrote an introduction to the piece :

"The Sultan Schakhriar, convinced that all women are false and faithless, vowed to put to death each of his wives after the first nuptial night. But the Sultana Scheherazade saved her life by entertaining her lord with fascinating tales, told seriatim, for a thousand and one nights. The Sultan, consumed with curiosity, postponed from day to day the ex*****on of his wife, and finally repudiated his bloody vow entirely."
