PATTERN

Wound Bandages for Patients with Hansen’s Disease (Leprosy)

Skill level: BASIC

Size: 3 inches x 48 inches

THREAD
100% Cotton thread 3-ply - NO DYE (example: Monaco 3-ply cotton thread - undyed, natural, white)
-3ply or 4ply only. These are bandages.
-NO colored yarn please (dyes may irritate open wounds)
-1 bandage weighs 65 grams
-2 Monaco 3ply balls = 1 bandage
-250g Monaco 3ply cone = 3 bandages

Crochet hook: 3.0-3.5 mm
Knitting needles: 2.5-2.75 mm
Hook and needle sizes are just recommendations. You may adjust accordingly.

Tension: Medium (not too tight and not too loose)

CROCHET INSTRUCTIONS
Chain enough stitches to measure 3 inches in width (approximately 23-25 chains).
Row 1: starting on second chain from hook, single crochet into each chain (22-24 sc), turn.
Row 2: chain 1, single crochet into each preceding sc, turn. (22-24 sc)
Repeat row 2 until length is 48 inches long.
Cut yarn. Finish off by pulling the thread through the last loop. Secure with a knot.
Weave in the yarn ends.
Roll the bandage and secure with tape.

KNITTING INSTRUCTIONS
Using long tail cast on or cable cast on, cast on enough stitches to measure 3 inches in width (approximately 24-28 stitches).
Row pattern: knit all stitches
Repeat row pattern until length is 48 inches long then bind off.
Cut yarn. Finish off by pulling the thread through the last loop. Secure with a knot. Weave in yarn ends.
Roll the bandage and secure with tape.

NOTE:
1. The bandages do NOT have to be 'perfect', so if you are afraid your edges are not “straight” enough or you dropped a stitch in the previous rows or it’s not “exactly” 3 inches, don’t let that stop you. Relax and have fun making them.

2. Bandages have to be clean. If necessary, please wash in detergent with no strong scent. Please wrap or put in clean plastic before shipping.

Why the need for cotton bandages?
-These bandages “breathe” better.
-It can be sterilized for reuse.
-They do not wear out too fast, unlike gauze and store-bought bandages.

"Sometimes, your heart speaks best through your hands." 🌷

One promise I made to myself since the beginning of my artistic journey is to always do things with a heart. Once my heart runs out, there's no other way but to stop and hope to keep the good memories with it.

I'm grateful that after almost three years in this passion project, my hands still speak for my heart.

That is, for as long as the hooks and yarn bring me joy and warmth for every person I crochet for, my heart knows it is nestled in a good and safe place. Away from pain, demand, and hate.

I'm ever so blessed and thankful for the people that feel the same way whenever they receive my work. My heart goes out to you who have trusted me since the beginning. Please cherish the piece of my heart in your hands. ♡

𝘿𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙢. 𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙚. 𝘼𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙚𝙫𝙚.

Eicrochet started out as a passion project aiming to create and explore the world of yarns, hooks, and needles. This small venture envisions to dream deep, inspire people in sustainable craftsmanship, and achieve together within the art community.

“Ei” is a Kanji character meaning “Eternity” or “Forever and Ever”. I never knew this for the longest time I used ‘eicrochet’ referring to my works. Personally, I believe in signs. And this is one sign I’ll hold dear to my heart forever and ever.

I look forward to spending an eternity of crochet with all of you.
Spread kindness and love!
