San Isidro, Pray for us 🙏

The farmer's patron saint, San Isidro Labrador, was born in Madrid, Spain, around 1070. He was well-known for his devotion and perseverance while working as a farm laborer. Legends claim that he worked marvels, such as having angels look after his fields as he prayed. After San Isidro's death in 1130, his tomb was visited by pilgrims. He was declared a saint in 1622. On May 15, festivities, blessings of animals, and processions are held to commemorate his feast day. The heritage of San Isidro as a representation of toil, devotion, and stewardship of the land endures.

Because of his devotion to and support of farmers and laborers, San Isidro Labrador has a significant influence outside of Spain. He is admired in rural areas all over the world. His example serves as a reminder of the value of having a solid work ethic, trust in God's providence, and the interdependence of people and the land. The spirit of San Isidro is still alive and well today as people continue to ask for his intercession for abundant harvests, the protection of crops, and guidance while working. This has inspired generations of agricultural laborers all across the world.

The Last Supper of Jesus, which commemorates the last supper he had with his followers before being crucified, is a major event that is recorded in the New Testament of the Bible. It happened on Maundy Thursday night, the evening before Jesus was arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus convened his twelve apostles in an upper apartment in Jerusalem to observe the Jewish holiday of Passover, according to the Gospels. Jesus established the sacrament of Holy Communion at the supper by taking bread and wine, expressing thanks, and then sharing them with his disciples as a representation of his flesh and blood. Jesus did, however, also foretell the betrayal by one of his own, which caused the disciples to feel uneasy.

The Last Supper serves as a poignant reminder of Jesus' selfless love, his sacrifice for humanity, and the establishment of a new covenant between God and humanity. It remains an enduring symbol of faith, unity, and the profound teachings of Jesus Christ.

The Santo Niño of Cebu is the oldest and most well-known Santo Niño figure. People from the area in and around the city of Cebu, where the Spaniards established the first colonial capital, are known as Cebuanos and hold a special reverence for that image. However, devotion to the Santo Niño of Cebu has expanded beyond that area, and pictures of it may be found in homes and businesses across the nation as well as among Filipinos living abroad.

Another PaeTRIVIA!

The Tagalog word paet, which means chisel, is the source of the name Paete. The name of the town should be pronounced "Pa-e-te," but the locals pronounce it with a long i and a short, guttural ê sound. Residents of the town only speak to visitors using the first pronunciation mentioned rather than the second. The American Maryknoll Missionaries nicknamed the town "Piety" when they first arrived in the area in the late 1950s.

When one of the young friars was told to visit their mission on the lake's shore by his father superior, the name "Paete" was born. He observed one woodcarver using a "PAET" carving instrument. The young friar inquired of the woodcarver in the language only he could comprehend in order to learn the name of the location. The woodcarver responded "PAET PO" thinking that the question was about the name of the tool he was holding. The young monk informed his father superior that he had managed to contact "PAETE" when he had returned.
