CONGRATULATIONS TO AFGH NEWLY CERTIFIED BIOSAFETY PROFESSIONAL

Ms. Karen DC. Sumaray, RMT, CBP, IFBA PC of the Air Force General Hospital (AFGH) successfully completed and passed the 6-week expertise training course entitled, “Protecting Weaponizable Materials and Building Biorisk Management Certified Expertise and Leadership in the Philippines."

The BioRisk Association of the Philippines (BRAP), in partnership with the US Department of State’s Biosecurity Engagement Program, Civilian Research and Development Foundation Global, and the International Federation of Biosafety Associations held the graduation ceremony on October 6, 2023 at Century Park Hotel for the 1st batch of Certified Biosafety Professionals (CBP).

The training aims to produce dedicated CBPs in the Philippines that will promote and advocate Biorisk Management.

Ms. Sumaray is one of the 72 applicants screened down to 19 CBPs consisting of Registered Medical Technologists, academicians, biologists, veterinarians, and engineers who successfully completed the course.

CLINICAL IMMERSION OF AFGH HIV AND AIDS CORE TEAM AT RITM

The Air Force General Hospital HIV and AIDS Core Team (AFGH HACT), in coordination with the Department of Defense President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (DOD PEPFAR) Philippines, participated in a clinical immersion of the AIDS Research Group of the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (ARG-RITM) on September 25-28, 2023.

The immersion ensures the most out of the educational opportunity for AFGH HACT. It includes an orientation of the ARG Clinic Process Flow, HIV Testing Services, Enrollment Process of New Patients, Follow-up Procedures, Tour to the Facility, Exposure and Orientation on Telemedicine and Face-to-Face Consultations, and other HIV and AIDS clinical procedures and services.

AFGH CIV HR JOINS PAF FUN RUN FOR PH CIVIL SERVICE ANNIVERSARY

The Air Force General Hospital (AFGH) Civilian Human Resource (Civ HR) participated in a fun run activity at Villamor Air Base, Pasay City, on September 30, 2023. The Civ HR ran 2 kilometers and joined the Zumba session.

The activity is part of the celebration of the 123rd Philippine Civil Service Anniversary, with a 10-year theme: “Transforming Public Service in the Next Decade: Honing Agile and Future-Ready Servant Heroes”.

AFGH MEDICAL CORPS OFFICER COMPLETES THE 11TH COURSE ON MILITARY MEDICAL ETHICS IN TIMES OF ARMED CONFLICT

The Air Force General Hospital (AFGH) congratulates Major Lizah B Dorao MC for having completed the 11th Course on Military Medical Ethics (MME) in Times of Armed Conflict of the International Committee of Military Medicine (ICMM) on September 3 to 7, 2023 at Spiez, Switzerland.

The ICMM is an international and intergovernmental organization that brings together military medical services and professionals from various countries. It provides a platform for collaboration and the development of common standards in military medicine to enhance the quality of care provided to military personnel and civilians in times of crisis or armed conflict.

The course provides a series of discussions on the Fundamental Principles of International Humanitarian Law, an Introduction to Ethical Decision, Ethics and Law, and an Introduction to Military Medical Ethics.

Major Dorao is the only representative of the Philippines and is one of the 14 participants consisting of military medical officers, medical planner line officers, and civilian doctors from different countries including Brazil, Qatar, Iraq, Belgium, Switzerland, Myanmar, Malaysia, USA, Liberia, Iran, and the Philippines.

AFGH HIV AND AIDS CORE TEAM GOES TO MAJOR DANILO AIR BASE

Aligned with the AFP HIV Program Objective Number 2: "To ensure that at least 95% of AFP personnel and their dependents have basic knowledge on HIV transmission, prevention, and control by the end of December 2028," the Air Force General Hospital HIV/AIDS Core Team (AFGH HACT) in collaboration with the Major Danilo Atienza Air Base Hospital (MDAABH) and the Cavite City Health Office will conduct an "EveryBUDDY Laban Sa HIV" Campaign in Major Danilo Air Base on September 22, 2023.

The Campaign and HIV Awareness and Camp-Based Event help raise awareness about the importance of HIV testing to fight the spread of HIV virus.

The Air Force General Hospital(AFGH) celebrated a "Thanksgiving Mass” as one of its Pre-anniversary Activities on September 14, 2023. It is subsequently followed by the blessing of a newly renovated AFGH facility and donated medical equipment.

The Air Force General Hospital (AFGH) conducted a "Health Fair" as one of its Pre-anniversary Activities on September 13, 2023.

AFGH will celebrate its 45th Founding Anniversary on September 16, 2023 with a theme, “AFGH @45: Accelerating with Excellence toward Better Health Services through Resilience amidst Adversities."

The Health Fair was in coordination with various organizations and stakeholders that promote awareness on certain health concerns; demonstrations of various health and wellness-related products and activities, and health screenings.

ANTI-RABIES VACCINATION AND DEWORMING, AFGH PRE-ANNIVERSARY ACTIVITY

The Air Force General Hospital (AFGH), in coordination with the Pasay City Veterinary Office, AVLI Biocare Inc., Metro Paws Pet Clinic and Grooming Services, Animal Kingdom Foundation, and Petdentity, conducted an “Anti-Rabies Vaccination and Deworming” as one of its Pre-anniversary Activities.

AFGH will be celebrating its 45th Founding Anniversary on September 16, 2023 with the theme, “AFGH @45: Accelerating with Excellence toward Better Health Services through Resilience amidst Adversities."

A total of 94 pets were inoculated with anti-rabies vaccines and dewormed at AFGH on September 12, 2023.

BLOOD DONATION, AFGH PRE-ANNIVERSARY ACTIVITY

The Air Force General Hospital (AFGH), in coordination with the Department of Pathology and Laboratory of the Victoriano Luna Medical Center conducted a “Blood Donation” activity as one of its pre-anniversary activities.

AFGH will be celebrating its 45th Founding Anniversary on September 16, 2023 with a theme, “AFGH @ 45: Accelerating with Excellence toward Better Health Services through Resilience amidst Adversities”.

The Blood Donation was participated by the different units of the Philippine Air Force within Colonel Jesus Villamor Air Base, Pasay City on September 7, 2023.

AFGH HIV AND AIDS CORE TEAM GOES TO CLARK AIR BASE

Aligned with the AFP HIV Program Objective Number 2: "To ensure that at least 95% of AFP personnel and their dependents have basic knowledge on HIV transmission, prevention, and control by the end of December 2028," the Air Force General Hospital HIV/AIDS Core Team (AFGH HACT), the Public Health Center, AFP Health Service Command, and the DOD PEPFAR Philippines will conduct a 5-day "EveryBUDDY Laban Sa HIV" Campaign in Clark Air Base, Pampanga on September 4 to 8, 2023.

This 5-day campaign includes basic HIV Prevention, Testing, Care, and Treatment training for healthcare workers of Air Force City Hospital and nearby Military Treatment Facilities (Basa Air Base Hospital, Wallace Air Station Medical Infirmary, Camp Aquino Station Hospital, Medical Dispensary TRADOC, and NETC).

The campaign also includes a lay forum on HIV 101 for military personnel at Clark Air Base in order to gain more information about the disease and know how to prevent its transmission. Free HIV screening and distribution of information materials will likewise be conducted.

OPERATION TULI, AFGH PRE-ANNIVERSARY ACTIVITY

The Air Force General Hospital (AFGH) headed by its Commanding Officer - Colonel Nelson V Posadas MC (GSC), and in coordination with the Aerospace Medical Association of the Philippines, conducted an “Operation Tuli” as one of its Pre-anniversary Activities.

AFGH will be celebrating its 45th Founding Anniversary on September 16, 2023 with the theme, “AFGH @ 45: Accelerating with Excellence toward Better Health Services through Resilience amidst Adversities”.

A total of 35 young males were circumcised at Barangay 186, Maricaban, Pasay City on August 3, 2023.

PLAQUE OF APPRECIATION FOR AFGH

The Air Force General Hospital (AFGH) received a Plaque of Appreciation from the 207th Tactical Helicopter Squadron (THS) of the Philippine Air Force during its celebration of 45th Founding Anniversary on July 27, 2023.

The plaque is given as appreciation for the invaluable services rendered by AFGH to 207th THS that has immensely contributed to the accomplishment of the Squadron’s mission.

AFGH AWARDEE IN THE AFP MEDICAL SERVICE 125TH FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Medical Service celebrated its 125th Founding Anniversary with the theme “Unity in Diversity”, in a ceremony held at the AFP Commissioned Officers Country in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City on Monday, June 21, 2023.

The Chief of Staff, AFP General Andres C Centino PA graced the ceremony that highlighted the accomplishments of the gallant men and women of the AFP Medical Service.

Captain Emmanuel S Pangilinan Medical Corps of the Air Force General Hospital was adjudged as the “Junior Medical Corps Officer of the Year” for his contribution for the mission accomplishment of the AFP Medical Service.

This is a testament of our competence in providing quality healthcare for the men and women of the Philippine Air Force and the AFP.

Like wise, AFGH was able to obtain its Department of Health (DOH) Accreditation as a MOTHER-BABY FRIENDLY HEALTH FACILITY.

Colorectal Cancer is a disease in which cells in the colon or re**um grow out of control. Sometimes it is called Colon Cancer, for short.

The lecture is in observance of the Leprosy Control Week for February.

Hansen’s disease (also known as Leprosy) is an infection caused by slow-growing bacteria called Mycobacterium leprae. It can affect the nerves, skin, eyes, and lining of the nose (nasal mucosa). With early diagnosis and treatment, the disease can be cured. People with Hansen’s disease can continue to work and lead an active life during and after treatment.

The Air Force General Hospital (AFGH) headed by its Commanding Officer, Colonel Nelson V Posadas MC (GSC), invites you to an awareness lecture on Cancer on February 8, 2023 at 2:00 pm via Zoom (limited to 100 participants only).

The awareness lecture is in observance of the National Cancer Awareness Month for February.

Cancer is a generic term for a large group of diseases that can affect any part of the body. Other terms used are malignant tumors and neoplasms.

One defining feature of cancer is the rapid creation of abnormal cells that grow beyond their usual boundaries, and which can then invade adjoining parts of the body and spread to other organs; the latter process is referred to as metastasis. Widespread metastases are the primary cause of death from cancer.
