The deck officers and third engineer on board Iver Ambition all started out as cadets with big ambitions. Thanks to the KVNR-PIT cadetship programme (Batches 2, 3, 11 and 14), followed by many years of hard work and dedication, they now take care of one of our modern high-heat tankers.

We are proud to have them as part of the Iver Ships family!

Since the start of the KVNR-PIT (De Koninklijke Vereniging van Nederlandse Reders/Royal Association of Netherlands Shipowners - Palompon Institute of Technology) Cadetship Programme in 2001, we have invested in the development of “homegrown” officers, many of whom are still actively sailing in our fleet. The retention rate of cadets who become a junior officer is about 70% and we currently operate a large pool of senior officers originating from this programme.

Vroon’s seafarers form the cornerstone of our operations. Highly trained and professional, they operate our vessels safely and efficiently 24/7. The Day of the Seafarer is an annual event, initiated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and celebrating the vital role seafarers play in our global community. Taking place on 25 June, this Day salutes the often unrecognised contributions made by seafarers across the world to international seaborne trade, the world economy and society.

The focus for 2024 is on seafarers’ contributions to ensuring that the maritime sector is a safe workplace ( ). Being at sea for often long periods, provides many opportunities to take pictures of the working environment. So, we asked our colleagues on board to share their photos and top tips for safety at sea, showing us how they work to enhance maritime safety and security, in tandem with protecting the marine environment.

We have had a great response and a selection of the photos and tips will be shared in our next News Express magazine.

𝐎𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐘𝐁𝐄𝐑 𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐀𝐂𝐊 𝐎𝐍 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐀'𝐒 𝐖𝐄𝐁-𝐁𝐀𝐒𝐄𝐃 𝐒𝐘𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐌𝐒

The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) confirms that four (4) of its web-based systems were attacked and compromised yesterday, 16 June 2024.

Concerned MARINA officials and employees were immediately deployed at its Central Office to implement expeditious measure to ensure the protection of the integrity of the systems. The MARINA Information Technology (IT) team, with the assistance of the Department of Information and Communications Technology-Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (DICT-CICC), is currently conducting an investigation as well as accelerating its efforts to mitigate the data breach and have systems operational to receive and process applications on Tuesday, 18 June 2024.

The MARINA commits to strengthen its cyber security protocols to prevent any future cyber attack.

We are pleased to announce that Vladimirs Kameko has won the Vroon Leaders in Safety (LiS) Award 2023. Over 20 nominations were received, coming from both the Deepsea and Offshore fleets. They were all excellent examples of timely intervention and/or decisive safety leadership throughout the Company. They are evidence of the importance and continuing success of our Leaders in Safety programme.

Our 2023 winner currently serves as Daughter Craft Coxswain/Able Seaman on board our Aberdeen-based Multi-Role & Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel VOS Valiant. He joined us in 2015 and has been a member of VOS Valiant’s regular crew since 2018.

Vladimirs was nominated by his Master, Captain Bartek Mazurek, and the whole team on board. In their opinion, he deserves this title for his exemplary work ethic and conduct, and his very proactive attitude towards safety and his colleagues on board. This is exactly the behaviour that our LiS programme promotes. Well done, Vladimirs. You are an example to us all.

2. Click the link OBRTE downloadable form.

3. Print the OBRTE in a quality Legal size paper

STEP 2 : Registration and Issuance of Control Number

1. Proceed to MARINA-STCWO Examination and Assessment Division (EAD) for registration of OBRTE

2. Evaluation of submitted documents:
- Printed OBRTE
- Endorsement Letter from Shipping/Manning Agency
- Contract of Employment (POEA approved/Domestic) OR Affidavit
of Undertaking from Shipping/Manning Agencies
- Transcript of Records
- Valid PRC License
- Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)

3. Orientation for filling up the OBRTE

4. Approval and issuance of OBRTE control number

STEP 3 : Onboard completion of approved OBRTE

1. Accomplish the approved OBRTE in compliance with relative guidelines and procedures.

STEP 4 : Evaluation of duly accomplished approved OBRTE

1. Proceed to MARINA-STCWO Examination and Assessment Division (EAD) for verification of control number of OBRTE

2. Present to the Board of Engine Ratings the below supporting documents for evaluation:

- Duly accomplished approved OBRTE
- Contract of Employment (POEA approved/ Domestic)
- Certificate of Sea Service
- Original SRB relative to the seagoing service
- Certified True Copy of Crew list

3. Evaluation, validation and approval of OBRTE

4. Proceed to application for practical assessment in the MARINA Online System

The 2023 Vroon24 safety celebrations took place in the week of 13 November. During our calling session on 15 and 16 November, the Vroon24 centre in Breda operated for more than 40 hours, speaking to 74 vessels and five offices.

Bonifacio Day is a national holiday in the Philippines, commemorating Andrés Bonifacio, one of the country's national heroes. He was founded the Katipunan, a secret society that triggered the Philippine Revolution of 1896 against the Spanish Empire. It is celebrated every November 30, the birth anniversary of Bonifacio. Historians call him The Great Plebeian, Supremo of the Katipunan, the Father of the Philippine Revolution, the Unofficial First President of the Independent Philippines.

International Food Services (IFS) is extending their invitation to VFSM Chief Cooks to join the Chief Cook of the Year competition in Manila which will take place by second week of December 2024.

This event will be a live cooking competition where the nominated cooks showcase their passion for cooking. Like MasterChef, but for Chief Cooks!
