Cha-Time #32, “Funding & Incentives for Heritage” is tomorrow, 10 August at 2:00 PM Bangkok time! This Cha-Time will feature Dr. Ivan Henares, Chairperson of SEACHA, and Mr. Fauzy Ismail, SEACHA Director, Singapore.
There is a strong need to spread knowledge on how some Southeast Asian countries provide incentives for property owners to conserve their heritage buildings, as there are still numerous towns and cities that do not have the necessary laws or bills in place. Having government funded incentives secures the support from heritage building owners and stakeholders in the cause of conservation. Some may think that cities have economic issues to overcome before tax exemptions for heritage properties can be considered. However, in this Cha-Time we will also consider how heritage positively impacts other industries such as tourism, arts, and more.
Dr. Ivan Anthony Henares, PhD is Secretary General of the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines, Commissioner of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and Assistant Professor at the Asian Institute of Tourism of the University of the Philippines, Diliman. At present, he is also Secretary General of the ICOMOS International Cultural Tourism Committee (ICTC), Chairperson of the Heritage Conservation Society (HCS), and Chairperson of the Southeast Asian Cultural Heritage Alliance (SEACHA).
Mr. Fauzy Ismail is the Singapore based Director of Southeast Asian Cultural Heritage Alliance (SEACHA) and the President of the Singapore Heritage Society. He is an architect with specialization in art and architecture history and cultural heritage, and has a Master’s in Nonprofit Leadership and Management from the University of Southern California, where he was awarded a Fulbright scholarship.
They will be joined by moderator Arch. Gio Abcede and roundtable members Dr. Yongtanit Pimonsathean and Ms. Moe Moe Lwin.
Dr. Yongtanit Pimonsathean is a visiting associate professor in urban planning at Thammasat University and an Honorary Advisor to the Council of The Siam Society. He was the first president of ICOMOS Thailand after becoming an independent NGO.

Some of these street signs are under national jurisdiction. We should look into what cases could be filed against the agency that implemented this.
Makati Mayor Abby Binay said in a statement on Friday that the move to change the street signs did not reach her office, adding that she has reprimanded city officials involved in the approval of the project.
