This is intended for HCP (physicians and nurses with updated ACLS Proficiency Certification) manning critical areas in the hospital like the ICU, ER, OR, dialysis units. This will be at least a yearly activity (and may be held more often as the demand increases).

The Senate of the Philippines is working on a CPR-Ready status with the Philippine Heart Association (PHA) as its cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training provider.

The Senate-PHA CPR Advocacy alliance was sealed by Dr. Renato Sison Jr., Senate Medical-Dental Bureau chief and Dr. Lourdes Ella Santos, PHA director III/Advocacy chair on March 14, 2024. Sison announced that Senate President Miguel Zubiri, has approved the upper house of Congress’ CPR-Ready program.

Initially, 1,000 of its 2,000 workforce, will attend the hands-only CPR/Automated External Defibrillator (AED) lecture and demo workshop which will be conducted on a staggered basis during the whole month of April 2024.

Making up the team of PHA trainers/facilitators are cardiologists and emergency medical technicians.

Lobbying for the mandatory AED placement in public spaces and places, side by side with working on a CPR-Ready-Senate of the Philippines, will give the CPR/AED-ReadyPh campaign a fresh shot in the arm.

PASAY CITY, MARCH 14, 2024 -- Beyond harping on the benefits of maintaining the magic number: a BP that is less than 140/90; and doing “BP rounds”, the Senate Medical & Dental Bureau organized a Wellness Lecture on Hypertension.

During its extended Heart Month celebration, the Senate of the Philippines tapped the Philippine Heart Association (PHA), represented by Dr. Lourdes Ella Santos, PHA director III/Advocacy chair, as its resource person on hypertension and heart disease. Held on March 14, 2024 at the Senate Building’s Padilla Room, the lecture gathered 90 attendees, 51 face to face (F2F) and 39 via Zoom and Facebook, who represented the different departments of the Senate of the Philippines.

Majority of the F2F and virtual participants claimed that the topic is something that is close to their hearts. According to Dr. Renato Sison Jr. Medical & Dental Bureau (MDB) chief, 32 percent of the Senate workforce are hypertensive.

Dr. Laila Celino of the MDB added that health literacy is important to making the right decisions for a healthy lifestyle, and that listening to experts is key.

"It is imperative that for hypertension prevention and management, you must first know your numbers, meaning, monitor your BP. Second, work with your doctor for a prevention/management plan. Third, make lifestyle changes to ensure you maintain a healthy weight, diet that is low in salt, get enough exercise, and stick to medication routines if you have," Santos underscored.
