Happy International Adolescent Health Week! đź’š
The Department of Education celebrates the International Adolescent Health Week (IAHW) this March 19-25, 2023, with the theme “With and For Adolescents: Building a Healthier and More Inclusive Future.”
IAHW 2023 brings together young people, healthcare providers, teachers, parents, advocates, and communities to celebrate the youth and collectively work toward improving the health and well-being of more than 1 billion adolescents worldwide. This engages adolescents and those close to them to inspire communities to advocate for a successful transition into adulthood.
Our young people cannot do it alone, so we encourage everyone to get involved in promoting adolescent health and well-being!

LOOK: Courtesy visit of the USAID and Fred Hollow Foundation.
Representatives from the USAID-Child Blindness Program Donor and Fred Hollows Foundation, headed by Mr. Chris Pearson, Chief of Party, and Dr. Maria Victoria Rondaris, Philippine Country Manager, paid a visit at the DepEd Central Office to meet with program partners from the Bureau of Learner Support Services-School Health Division to discuss project updates and ways forward regarding the implementation of the National Vision Screening Program.
Giving their messages of support during the said activity were Undersecretary for Operations Atty. Revsee A. Escobedo and BLSS Director IV Nenneth Esplana-Alama. Meanwhile, Dr. Maria Corazon C. Dumlao, Chief of School Health Division, provided the highlights about the progress of the National Vision Screening Program implementation.
Mr. Pearson, in his message, thanked the Department for their support and cooperation during the pilot implementation of the National Vision Screening Program.

LOOK: The Department of Education through the Bureau of Learner Support Services-School Health Division (BLSS-SHD) held the last batch of the In-Person Regional Consultative Workshop for the DepEd Order on the School Mental Health Program with SMH Program Coordinators from DepEd Caraga on January 30 – February 3, 2023 at Agusan del Norte.
The activity aimed to provide a platform for the Program coordinators/focal persons of the School Mental Health Program and other personnel concerned from across governance levels to exchange ideas and experiences, discuss challenges and opportunities, and identify effective strategies for the implementation of the School Mental Health Program.
As part of the activity, BLSS-SHD representatives, led by its Chief Dr. Maria Corazon C. Dumlao, visited the Agay National High School to get a glimpse of its success in establishing the YOLO program and its Teen Safe Space Referral System.

TINGNAN: Kabilang ang programa ng Department of Education (DepEd) sa mga case studies sa Global Oral Health Status Report ng World Health Organization (WHO). Nabanggit sa report ang integration ng daily toothbrushing activities sa mga school routines bilang magandang ehemplo upang maituro sa mga estudyante ang mga tamang gawain upang maayos na mapangalagaan ang kanilang mga ngipin.
Ayon sa panayam kay Dr. Maria Corazon Dumlao ng School Health Division ng DepEd, laganap ang dental caries at iba pang oral infections sa mga kabataan sa Pilipinas na pwedeng makaapekto sa kanilang pag-aaral. Isa sa mga ipinapatupad na programa ng DepEd ang araw-araw na pagsisipilyo sa eskwelahan gamit ang toothpaste na may fluoride.
Ang oral health program ay bahagi ng WinS interventions ng DepEd na sinusuportahan ng Regional Fit for School Programme ng Deutsche Gesellschaft fĂĽr Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) at ng German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development.
Ang WinS program ay isa sa mga flagship program ng Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd (OKD) na convergence ng iba’t-ibang school health and nutrition program ng Kagawaran. Ang iba pang mga programa sa ilalim ng OKD ay ang School-Based Feeding Program, National Drug Education Program; Adolescent Reproductive Health; School Mental Health, at Medical, Dental, and Nursing Services.
