President Duterte's economic team has asserted the importance of the mining industry and its post-pandemic revival.

On June 15, a joint report including findings from the Mining Industry Coordinating Council was released by NEDA, DENR, DOF, and the Development Academy of the Philippines.

It was found that mining and quarrying greatly contribute to the regional GDP of regions where mining operations are present. Aside from developing the rural areas surrounding the mining sites, mining operations have also increased employment and promoted business growth, prompting the enthusiastic calls for the industry's resurgence.

On May 5, 25 years ago, Premiere Horizon rang PSE's Bell and became the first publicly listed motion picture company in the country.

PHA has since undergone various transformations to get to where it is today: a holding company committed to championing countryside development.

"The COVID-19 pandemic changed business models, and PHA is no exception. Continuing business transformation will be the norm,” says CEO Roberto Ortiz.

On where the Company is headed next, he shares: "PHA will focus on creating shareholder value from its core real property assets in Palawan and Northern Luzon. The Residential Real Estate Price Index (RREPI) reports that property prices have risen by 4.9% in the last quarter of 2021.

This is in comparison to the 0.8% rise in the same period in 2020, reinforcing the recovery of the real estate industry after quarantine restrictions have been eased.

It also comes at the heels of double-digit expansions in townhouse and condominium costs, 22.6% and 10.4% respectively.

Of note, property costs within the Metro have declined by 1.2% on the quarterly, while the areas outside of it increased by 2.6%.

A 2020 Statista survey finds that 35% of the global workforce is comprised by millennials. Roughly equating to $1.1 trillion in buying power, this generation is a crucial consumer base in the Asia-Pacific region.

At present, millennials are establishing themselves as the next real estate investors. Their independence, financial prudence, and long-term vision often translate to a desire to invest in a home, usually a condominium unit in the heart of the city and one that is close to their workplace.

Last year, the Department of Tourism launched its Sustainable Tourism Development Project (STDP) in Palawan. The five-year project is poised to bring about urban infrastructure, ecosystems improvement, and enterprise development with the ultimate goal of preserving the natural wonders of Palawan—the heart and soul of its tourist appeal.

Moreover, it is meant to bring about improvements to ensure ecotourism longevity and resilience as the industry bounces back.

After two years of closed borders, the Philippines finally welcomed fully vaccinated international travelers once more beginning February.

The Tourism Congress of the Philippines reports that among the preferred destinations of the country, Palawan remains among the top contenders, with most of the interest coming from travelers from North America, Europe, and the Middle East.
