Ambivalence may have been in the hearts of each of those who witnessed Jesus’ ascension. They must have felt great joy to have fully understood what Jesus had told them numerous times in the past while He was still with them and sadness to see Him leave without restoring the kingdom that they had hoped would be His mission.
As they stood mesmerized, angels of the Lord snapped them out of their stupor, announcing that Jesus will come again the same way he was taken to heaven for the whole world to see (Revelation 1:7).
Decades ago, it was difficult to comprehend these verses regarding the second coming of Christ. How can it be possible that everyone around the world will be able to see Him when He reappears in the Mount of Olives in Israel? The idea itself seemed incredulous and was outright preposterous. But in our world today, technology is so advanced that every event in the world can be seen or heard in real time, no matter which corner of the globe one is!
It is amazing and mind-boggling to learn the words of God as it comes to us in the Bible. We have a Sovereign God. His omniscience of things that were and of things that will be are all in His purpose and will. It is foolish of us not to believe in Him and the saving grace of His Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who promised to one day return and take us home to our eternal dwelling with Him in complete joy and bliss!
(written by Elder Eugene Villanueva)
As you perhaps know, genuine confession involves agreeing with God about the wrongness of one’s act or deed. True confession is a mark of a truly repentant person. The psalmist expressed his confession to the Lord with these words: “Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment.” (Psalm 51:4 ESV)
The way to forgiveness, cleansing and renewal is via authentic confession on our part. God’s heart is tender to those whose hearts are sincere or pure. Let us ask the Lord to pour his grace upon us, so we may have true confessions of our sins.
Our Father in heaven, hear your people as we bare our hearts before you in genuine confession…
The Lord Jesus shared a perspective to his followers about being too focused on material needs or possessions and at sometimes to the neglect of other equally or more important things in life. Jesus said, “But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith!” (Luke 12:28 ESV)
Lord Jesus, your assurance provides me strength and courage to move forward amidst my challenging circumstances. As I follow you, I rest on your kindness and generosity, oh loving Lord. May your beauty and glory be reflected in my circumstances, as I pursue your will. Amen.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7 ESV)
Your faith in God leads you to prayer.. You know He is good, faithful, gracious, benevolent and generous. Prayer is an invitation for God to enter your life’s circumstances. When the Lord is honored by your faith in Him, he grants you his peace. It is a different kind of peace that is hard to explain because it guards your heart from being anxious, even as you wait.
Lord Jesus, I covet your peace in the midst of my current circumstances. Hear my prayers, my gracious Almighty God. Amen.

When Paul encountered the Risen Lord Jesus on the road to Damascus, Paul’s privileged membership in the Pharisaic Party took a downward spin. The hunter became the hunted, the persecutor turned into the one persecuted, and the executioner would soon find himself to be executed.
This was all in God’s plan when He pronounced Paul’s destiny to Ananias with the words, “He is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel. For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.” (Acts 9:15-16)
God enabled Paul to see the light of His truth in Jesus. Paul unlearned all that he thought were to God’s glory, and surrendered wholeheartedly to the cause of Christ. And He went through hardships, troubles, and sufferings that were purposed for him by God Himself.
Like a good soldier who bravely marches into battle despite the risk of injury or loss of life, Paul persisted in preaching the Gospel as he pressed on toward the goal to win the prize for which God had called him heavenward in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14).
As he faced the prospect of his imminent death, Paul could say with conviction to his protégé Timothy, that he had been a good soldier. He had fought hard, accomplished his mission, was shameless in suffering for the gospel. Because of his faith in God who is trustworthy, he is “convinced that He is able to guard what he has entrusted to Him until that day” (2 Timothy 1:12).
Like Paul, may we soldier on and carry the banner of Christ and be found courageous in sharing the gospel!

In troubled times where do you draw your help? Where is your peace of mind rooted? For the psalmist, he rested on the Almighty arms of God. He wrote: “My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:2 ESV)
As followers of Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of God, we anchor our hope on him. We look to the Lord who is the All-powerful Creator of heaven and earth (read John 1). You trust the Lord Jesus completely. And you may pray to him, right this very moment.
Lord Jesus, I know you are listening. Hear my prayer. I need you. I need your help. Graciously extend your powerful loving arms to me. Amen.

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 ESV
Jesus followers back then were about to face unprecedented, troubled times. The Lord encouraged and assured them that He can and will give them a certain kind of inner peace, unaffected by external factors. It was a promise accompanied by the fact that Jesus is already victorious over the world.
In our time, there are many things that assault our sense of peace. Mostly they arise from life’s circumstances. Others from troubles or problems that come with our interactions, encounters or relationships with people. As a believer, you and I, may pray for the peace of Christ to rule in our hearts.
Lord Jesus, you are the Sovereign Lord of all, you go before us and go with us in our life journey. Today, I lean on your promised peace and ask that you graciously grant it to us, who desperately need it in these troubled, dark times. Grant me continuing grace and faith. Amen.

“Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.” (James 1:19 ESV).
Listening is tough. Listening to Jesus, as his followers, is often tougher. It is perhaps why we often pay less attention or exert effort to listen to the Lord. For listening to our God may lead us to a discovery of our true self; our real state as a believer. Listening to the Lord may be quite tough, but it is the pathway to experiencing life. It is the way to experience light for the path ahead. Heeding the Word of the Lord brings life transformation toward life abundant and eternal.
Lord Jesus, I rest on your grace to help me be a good listener of yours. Clear my heart so I may hear and obey. I desire to find life and experience abundant living as you have intended. Thank you so much! Amen.
