Ang inflation rate ng Pilipinas ay tumaas sa 6.9% noong Setyembre 2022, mula sa 6.3% noong Agosto 2022 at malayo naman sa 4.2% noong Setyembre 2021. 📈

Teachers lose P3,862 of monthly salary to inflation

With the country’s inflation rate hitting a 14-year high of 7.7% in October 2022, the purchasing power of entry-level public school teachers’ P25,439 monthly salary is cut by P3,862 or P175.55 in their daily pay, according to the computations of the Alliance of Concerned Teachers.

The eroded amount accounts to 15% of the current basic pay of Teacher I, which now has a real value of P21,576.76. The computations are based on the depreciation of the purchasing power of 1 peso, now only worth 85 centavos compared to its value in 2018. Public school teachers occupying Teacher I positions form 52% of all public school teachers nationwide.

“From 2018 to 2022, the Teacher I position received a total of P5,292 increase in their monthly salaries through the pay adjustments of the Salary Standardization Law IV and V. But with the soaring inflation, the real value of this salary increase is reduced by 73% or P3,862. Sa madaling salita, mula 2018 hanggang ngayon ay P1,397.76 lamang ang tunay na natamasang umento ng Teacher I sa kanilang buwanang sweldo, o P25 kada araw,” lamented Vladimer Quetua, ACT Chairperson.

“Sa totoo lang, mas mababa pa ang aktwal na nagagamit ng g**o para sa pangangailangan ng kanilang pamilya dahil umaabot ng P3,820 ang buwanang kaltas sa sweldo para sa income tax at mandatory contributions. Further, as majority of our teachers are deep in loans, many only receive a monthly net take home pay of P5,000 after loan payment deductions. Talagang kasama ng malawak na bilang ng mamamayan, gutom rin ang inaabot ng pamilya ng ating mga g**o,” explained Quetua.

“There is really no more room for belt-tightening in this predicament, we are in an emergency situation that calls for emergency measures. There is no indication that the economy will improve in the next months with the global crisis projected to even worsen, and our spineless local economy sure to be dragged further under water. Our people and our teachers deserve to afford regular meals and basic needs, the Marcos government has to urgently effect pay hikes to bring wages and salaries to liveable levels,” asserted Quetua.

“Ibon Foundation’s computation of family living wage based on government data now amounts to P1,119 daily or about P33,000 a month. None of the 92% of public school teachers, who occupy Teacher I, II and III positions, receive salaries of that level. The minimum wage in the private and public sector should approximate these amounts to allow our people to meet their basic needs. The salary level of Teacher I in public schools should be upgraded from the current salary grade 11 to salary grade 15 so that they can have a gross pay of around P35,000 per month,” Quetua urged.

“Hindi na maaari ang pagdadahilan na walang magagawa ang gobyerno dahil pandaigdigan ang krisis. What are they in power for if they cannot manage the economy and safeguard the welfare of the people? It is well within the government’s powers to effect wage hikes and bring down the prices of commodities through the removal of onerous taxes on essential goods,” ended Quetua.

Money sent home by overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) rose by 3.8 percent year-on-year in September 2022 to USD2.84 billion, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) noted.

In the first three quarters of this year, total cash remittances grew by 3.1 percent to USD23.83 billion compared to the same period in 2021.

Inflows from land-based workers jumped by 4.2 percent to USD2.25 billion in the ninth month this year while those from sea-based workers grew by 2.5 percent to USD59 million.

The BSP said bulk of the remittances in the first three quarters of this year came from the United States, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and Qatar.

BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR CONCERT TICKET FOR 25K

Hi guys! Manghihingi lang sana ako ng advice if wise spending ba ang manood ng concert ng Blackpink next year.

Way back 2019 yung nag concert ang Blackpink dito sa Pilipinas hindi ako nakapanood kasi lubog ako sa utang kahit pang Gen Ad na ticket wala akong pambili. Sabi ko talaga sa sarili ko nun sa susunod na balik nila dito panonoorin ko sila.

Ang utang ko during that time umabot ng almost 1M because of excessive spending. From 2019 to present inayos ko sarili ko bago pumasok ang 2021 nabayaran ko lahat ng utang ko at nakapag ipon pa ako ng almost 2M.

Now, dahil sa trauma ko nung nagkaroon ako ng malaking utang sobrang humigpit ako sa pera. Talagang hindi ako bumibili ng hindi kailangan at lahat ng lumalabas na pera sa akin naka track.

Nung nag announce yung Blackpink ng World Tour nila sobrang naexcite ako kasi finally mapapanood ko na sila kaya tinawagan ko lahat ng connections ko na makakuha ng VIP ticket kasi walang pag-asa kung sa ticketnet ako bibili for sure wala pang 5 seconds sold-out na VIP nila.

May friend ako na nahanapan ako ng VIP ticket ng Blackpink, binebenta sa akin ng 25k. Ang usual range ng VIP ticket ng Blackpink sa ibang bansa ay 17K so in short may patong ng almost 8K.

Sabi ko sa friend ko bigyan ako hanggang Friday kasi parang nagdadalawang isip ako parang bigla akong naghinayang sa 25K. Need ko magdecide before Friday kasi may ibang buyer ng ticket na willing bilhin ng 30K kaya mas lalo ako naging aligaga kasi kapag pinalagpas ko tong VIP ticket na to malamang hindi na ako makahanap ng VIP ticket.

Fan ako ng Blackpink hindi pa sila masyadong sikat pinapakinggan ko na sila pero nagdadalawang isip ako na maglabas ng 25K for a 2 hour concert. Yung 25K na yun ilang stocks/cryptos na ang pwede kong bilhin doon. Naisip ko din minsan lang naman pumunta ang Blackpink dito at gagawin ko na lang birthday and christmas gift sa sarili ko yung 25K na ticket.

Ang sistema yang linya na “minsan lang naman”, “birthday and christmas gift sa sarili ko” yan ang mga linya ko kaya ako nabaon dati sa utang.

Ano sa tingin niyo mga kapeso, wise spending ba yung 25K na ticket ng Blackpink? Hindi naman po sa pagmamayabang pero ayoko po panoorin ang Blackpink ng hindi VIP kaya hindi option ang other class ng tickets. Kasi kung ganun lang din pala eh di sa YouTube ko na lang sila panoorin. Gusto ko kasi silang makita ng malapitan.
