Ameng Balay means "our home" that we love to share with friends, friends of friends, and friends of a friend's friend.... to sit by, chat, linger and enjoy life's simple pleasures from carefully chosen pieces of fine crafted, beautiful things, pottery, handwoven rugs and wraps, embroidered cushion covers and silk pouches, handpainted ceramic plates, cotton covered notebooks, handmade cloth shoes,
Another one of our little joys, Herbs.
We love herbs and have been growing, selling and enjoying them at Ameng Balay. Nothing is better than having a fresh sprig of herb, cut from the garden a few minutes before cooking, making tea or garnishing a drink....
An Herb is a plant that is valued for flavor, scent, medicinal or other qualities. Herbs are used in cooking, as medicines, and for spiritual purposes (from Wikipedia)

Wind chimes were once used for weather forecasting, early weather-wise farmers, sailors made short term weather forecasts and observations such as wind speed and direction. Wind chimes are used to attract benevolent spirits, and, wind chimes enhance the mind/body/spirit connection bringing us a sense of peace and well being....
Gone are the days when our windows were draped with gantsilyo, and beds were covered with it, table centerpieces, and throw pillow cases were gantsilyo too. And most of the time, those were gantsilyo done by Nanay, or Mama. Here are some memorable pieces.....
Each piece is a work of art, maybe used for whatever you wish it to be...and signed by our friend, Mr Potter- Ugu

Thousand layer shoes, also called "old Beijing shoes"is made only by hand and takes seven steps.Stitched by thin linen threads, the soles are made of 100% white cotton, that has been rinsed and starched, then steamed, overlap and stitched into the soles. The last step is hammering in design, using certain moulds and embroidery. Each square inch of sole requires at least 81 stitches in strict crossing lines. So, making a pair of soles require about 5,000 stitches.
