During these times that visiting and dining at the cafes are prohibited/limited, enjoying a cup of tea at home is a great alternative. Here’s a dish that’s 🇸🇬 Loved by tourists and locals alike, this is a dish that you should try when you’re visiting the Little Red Dot.

It has a savoury and kinda spicy gravy that’s really delicious 😋 Do order some fried mantou (Chinese buns) as it goes well with the gravy. You can also get a non-spicy variant too.

Invented during the 50’s, this iconic dish is now a staple on menus from hawker centres to fine dining restaurants. And if we are craving for one, we highly recommend visiting or 🙌

Makan means to eat (origin Malay). And just like how we say "kain tayo", here you'll often hear people say "let's makan!" 😄

I'm sure most of the time we prefer items that allow us to prepare our food easier and quicker. These days it's undeniable that food stored in a jar is becoming a thing. If in previous days, only condiments are available in jars, nowadays even "ulam" in jars can easily be bought in the market.

This business is owned by an OFW based in Singapore, together with his wife, they've started to introduce this Chicken Flakes in Jar to their fellow kababayans. It's their family recipe and their main kitchen is located in Quezon City, managed by his sister-in-law. Their goal is to grow their brand here in Manila.

In my opinion, at first i thought it's similar to chicken adobo flakes but I think it's more comparable to the consistency and texture of tuna flakes in can. It's very savoury and tasty. The possibilities are endless to what you can make out of this type of ready to eat ulam, you can eat it with rice the same way you'd eat your canned ready to eat viand, you can also use it in pasta sauces, you can even mix it with your green salad dressing, but i also find that its good to be paired with mayo, turning it into Mayo-Chicken Flakes Spread. And even though it says kinda spicy, it isn't overwhelming that even non spicy eaters can enjoy it.

The good thing about these ulam in jars, is that you can just store it in your ref and in those occasions when you can't think of what to cook or you're just simply lazy to cook and prepare. This is a very easy and quick to prepare food you can grab anytime and pair it with your choice of food. I think this will also work as a nacho dip or scrambled in egg. You can be creative in any way you like it.

Here’s another SME trying to get their product out there. This is a crowd pleaser, I am sure of it: a bottled sweet and slightly spicy shredded chicken - formulated by a couple working as OFWs in Singapore and their Manila based SIL called 🎉 Out of the jar it’s already a keeper - maybe with crackers or with hot rice for a meal. Emperor’s Chicken Flakes is offering one of the most versatile ingredients that can easily whip up dishes fit for an emperor 😉

While frying this up, the chicken flakes rendered this strong garlic aroma that fills the kitchen, making you extra excited for what’s in store. This enticed all the senses during preparation — something that not all foods get to do.

Due to the oil and chicken combination, this is an intense play on fat and protein, allowing it to be extra filling than it seems. Additionally, a chicken oil type of flavor gave this an intense play of that malinamnam factor. 😍 Because the oil seeped into the flakes so well, it’s a deadly sinful mix that you just can’t resist.

I noticed that this was a combination of both Filipino and Chinese touches, I feel like the ingredients used to create this had to do with authentic Asian spices. I was so thrilled when I got a taste of that hot bite, allowing you to enjoy a nice additional flavor. On top of that, the garlicy tone was one of the main factors to the dish. (And we all know you can never go wrong with garlic!) 😍

Pro tip: fry it till it’s crispy! Your mouth is gonna thank you for all that crunchy goodness.
