Covid 19 Contactless Laundry at the Novaliches District Hospital.
Hospital Contaminated Linens is a source of nosocomial infection to the healthcare worker.
According to the Occupational Safety Health Association contaminated linens soiled with bodily fluids, such as blood , saliva, mucous, aerosols, urine, f***s or other potentially infectious materials like sharps, contains a high number of infectious pathogens. These soiled linens may be contaminated with communicable and contagious diseases such as Hepatitis B, Dysentery, Cholera, Typhoid, Hepatitis A, AIDS, Infected burns, and disseminated staphylococcal infections.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that bacteria, viruses and fungi such as Bacillus Cereus, , Microsporum Canis, Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus, Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus, and Clostridioides Difficile Spores have been transmitted to workers via direct contact or aerosols generated from sorting and handling of contaminated linens.
A study by epidemiologist Dr. Jiang of the C D C revealed that the hospital linens used by covid patients tested positive for a very high viral load of the covid 19 virus.
The D O H Department Memorandum 2020 0072 classifies Laundry workers as a high risk group.
The best way to prevent laundry workers from getting infected by contaminated linens is by Contactless Laundry using water soluble hospital laundry bags.
The DOH in its IRR Chapter 5 Section 9 of PD 856 states that linens from the emergency room, operating room, delivery room, nursery, isolation ward, communicable disease ward, surgery room, intensive care unit, and laboratories are possibly contaminated with contagious or communicable diseases. Linens coming from these areas shall be placed first in a water soluble bag.
Through the initiatives of Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte together with Dr Arias of the QC health Department. The Novaliches District Hospital tests the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) water soluble hospital laundry bags for Contactless Laundry of Covid 19 and other contaminated linens to protect its health workers.
IPC bags prevents the workers from direct physical contact with the contaminated linens. And since the bags need not be opened, there is no aerosolization of the virus. IPC bags protects the health worker from exposure to serious illness.
The contaminated linens are collected using IPC bags. The bags are not opened and placed directly inside the washing machine. The bags dissolve during the wash preventing additional medical plastic waste.
Using IPC water soluble hospital laundry bags is the international standard in protecting the health worker from exposure to potentially infectious materials during collection, handling, and washing of Covid 19 and other contaminated linens.
May we present our I PC water soluble hospital laundry bags in use at the Novaliches District Hospital.
To introduce and sell the Covid 19 IPC (Infection Prevention and Control) water soluble hospital laundry bags to hospitals.

PROTECTING HEALTHCARE WORKERS FROM COVID 19 INFECTED LINENS WITH WATER SOLUBLE LAUNDRY BAGS
Hospitals use plastic bags to collect laundry. However plastic bags MUST NOT be used to collect Covid 19 contaminated linens!
The Covid 19 virus is classified as infectious substance category b, which means it is a highly contagious virus. And recently the WHO confirmed it is airborne. Airborne viruses are the most contagious which is why plastic laundry bags must not be used in collecting linen from Covid 19 suspected or confirmed patients.
Plastic laundry bags must be ripped open and the linens handled. This action causes AEROSOLIZATION and the spread of the virus! This puts the health worker at risk of getting infected by the virus. A direct violation of Republic Act 11058. The Occupational Health and Safety Law. To make matters worse the discarded plastic laundry bags are contaminated with the virus and add to hazardous medical wastes. How and where do you dispose of these plastic bags?
Using plastic bags to collect Covid 19 contaminated linen is also a direct violation of Presidential Decree 856 the Code on Sanitation of the Philippines.
The Implementing Rules and Regulations of Chapter V- “Public Laundry” of PD 856 Section 9.1.4C specifically states that "WATER SOLUBLE BAGS must be used in collecting contaminated linens.
There are NO WATER SOLUBLE Laundry Bags BEFORE. There is one NOW:
Zero Plastic Philippines presents its Covid 19 IPAC Water Soluble Laundry Bag. IPAC stands for Infection Prevention And Control. These water-soluble bags are made with Zero Pollution Polymer (Zeropol). IPAC water soluble laundry bags reduces the risk of cross infection to the health worker by Covid 19 contaminated linens. IPAC water soluble bags are made to comply with RA 11058 The Occupational Safety and Health law and PD 856 the Code on Sanitation of the Philippines. May we present the COVID 19 IPAC Water Soluble Laundry Bag.
Its July 19, 2020 and there are over 65,000 Covid 19 cases in the Philippines! And the cases continues to rise. We always hear about the heroic front liners. The Nurses, and the Doctors . What about the "other front liners" that are working behind the scenes? I am talking about the Hospital Laundry Staff. They are also considered Healthcare Workers (HCW). How are they protected from COVID 19 Infected Laundry?
It is a fact that Hospital Acquired Infections and COVID 19 can come from contaminated laundry. Can you imagine yourself doing hundreds of kilos of laundry of COVID 19 patients? Why would anyone want to be exposed to such risk of infection? That is why Hospital Laundry Staff are also considered front liners. They do their jobs in order to give clean and sanitized linens to patients. As essential workers they must be protected as well under the Philippines Republic Act 11058, and the Presidential Degree 856.
This video shows a new and innovative product called ZERO INFECTION Water Soluble Hospital Laundry Bags. It provides protection to Hospital Laundry Staff washing COVID 19 Infected Linens by doing the laundry process WITHOUT DIRECTLY HANDLING the infected laundry! The process is simple: 1. The Covid 19 patient's clothes and linens are placed inside the ZERO INFECTION Water Soluble Hospital Laundry Bags. 2. PLACE THE LAUNDRY BAGS DIRECTLY INSIDE the washing machine! NO NEED to open or split the bags. Which means NO AEROSOLIZATION of the virus. This is specially important now that the World Health Organization (WHO) has officially announced that Covid 19 is AIRBORNE! And thats it! SIMPLE and SAFE!
Zero Infection Hospital Laundry Bags are "WATER SOLUBLE" meaning the bags DISSOLVES inside the washing machine during the washing process! The bags also does not leave any residue. Zero Infection Water Soluble Hospital Laundry Bags is made with "ZEROPOL." Short for "Zero Pollution" Polymer. A proprietary blend of non toxic PVA. Zeropol is a water loving polymer that dissolves and biodegrades to carbon dioxide and water.
