Another successful oral pathology surgery at Dizon Dental Clinic - QC.

The patient was referred to our clinic. She presented with significant swelling on her palate, which she first noticed in 2022 but ignored as it wasn't causing discomfort.

During the clinical examination, the cyst had expanded, resorbed the hard palate, and thinned the nasal floor. It was also associated with a root canal treated tooth. This type of cyst typically comes as a sequelae of an infected tooth.

We performed enucleation surgery to remove the cystic lesion. With proper planning and technique, we were able to remove it completely.

Removal of wisdom teeth with dilacerated roots.

Although wisdom tooth surgery is a routine procedure, every case presents a different challenge. In this case, the roots of the teeth are bent close to 90 degrees. This "hooks" to the bone during removal. Careful planning and technique are essential for these types of cases.

A late stage outcome of wisdom tooth impaction.

Based on the radiograph (x-ray), the decay has spread to the adjacent molar and has progressed to involve the nerve. The patient said he experienced "severe pain" days before his appointment.

The patient came to our clinic looking to have dental implant placed on her missing tooth.

Initial assessment revealed that the bone was only around 2mm thick, definitely insufficient for a dental implant.

We planned and did a Sinus Lift procedure. The main goal of this procedure is to add bone graft on the area, stimulating the body to grow enough bone to accommodate the dental implant

A case of an extensive Radicular cyst caused by infected root fragment

The patient had a total of 5 separate cysts that were associated with root fragments

A surgical enucleation procedure was done to remove the cysts lining completely. The root fragments were also removed and the site closed.

Unfortunately, the cysts caused a significant bony defects on the area thus needing future reconstructive procedures.

✨ Aesthetic solution for Teeth Spacing✨

The patient came in initially complaining of a chipped tooth. Upon seeing her case, a big gap was evident in between her two front teeth.

According to the patient the 'gap' was there since she was younger and she noticed that it became wider as she aged.

She said she wasn't able to prioritize it since she was supporting her family at that time and she thought that it was too late to correct it now.

To restore her smile, we made Dental crowns for both of her front teeth. We made it so that it would look natural and proportional.

The patient was very happy and satisfied with the results. So much, that she video called one of her children to show her new smile.

Cases of the day

✨ Horizontally positioned Impacted Wisdom tooth✨

Wisdom teeth position differs from patient to patient. Based on its position it may be vertical (patayo), horizontal (pahiga), or distal (palayo). Also the depth of the impacted tooth should be considered

Pictured in these are Horizontally positioned Impacted Wisdom teeth. They are also partially erupted, meaning, it is visible in the oral cavity. It also means that they are exposed to food and bacteria inside our mouth.

The space between the impacted teeth and 2nd molar traps food debris which cannot be reached during brushing. This causes pain, swelling and infection in the area. Hence, the best treatment is removal of the wisdom teeth

✨Full mouth Rehabilitation✨

This patient is a 68 year old male, residing abroad. He recently came back to the Philippines for a 3 month vacation. One of his goals was to have his oral health concerns addressed.

The patient came into our clinic with badly, abraded teeth and root fragments. Some teeth also had infection. He also had a Collapsed bite because of missing posterior teeth (molars).

Because of these, he had a hard time chewing. He was being limited to soft food and could not enjoy eating.

Our goal was to restore, FUNCTION and ESTHETIC appearance of his oral cavity.

Treatments done were:
1. Extraction of all lower root fragments

2. We did Root Canal treatment on 13, 11, 21, 22, 23. After which post and core build up was done.

3. We fabricated a lower complete Denture and an Upper partial denture.

4. We did a segmented fixed porcelain Bridge for the anterior teeth.

5. Finally, We made sure that the prosthesis were functional.

It took 45 days to complete everything. The Patient was very much pleased with the final outcome.

This case was challenging but seeing the patient's reaction and outcome made it all worth it.

✨Importance of Diagnostic Imaging in surgery✨

Removal of the 4 imapcted wisdom teeth were done. Based on the panoramic xray, we expected the lower wisdom teeth to be more challenging because of its position.

The upper teeth, although impacted, looked typical.

During the procedure, to our surprise, the upper left molar proved to be the most challenging because of its anatomy(see pictures). It took almost 30 mins to take out. Fortunately the roots did not break off.

Panoramic Radiograph is the bare minimum diagnostic imaging required for wisdom teeth surgery. However, it still has its limitations. Whenever possible and especially in complex cases, a CBCT scan should be requested

A couple of our dental restorative cases this week.

Both patients almost had similar stories, they were both insecure of how their teeth look liked. They thought that the damage was already extensive and that they had to have it removed.

Luckily, the teeth were still vital and only restorative work (fillings) had to be done.

The patients were so happy with the outcome and also pleased that it was relatively inexpensive.
