The Philippine Tuberculosis Society Inc. welcomes Dr. Mariquita J. Mantala as our new Director for Health Research and Training.

Dr. Marl is a seasoned public health program manager and practitioner, and has focused on TB control for almost thirty years. Most recently, she served as our Medical Director from September 2022 to April 2024 where she expanded and improved provision of quality TB care in PTSI clinics, and systematized its monitoring and evaluation. She also served for 14 years in the Department of Health, partly as the Director of TB Control Service, worked with the World Health Organization and USAID, and had continuously been tapped as a consultant for initiatives related to TB control.

In her new role leading the Health Research and Training Department, Dr. Marl will spearhead the Society's work in investigating and advocating for innovative practices, and building capabilities of health workers and other stakeholders in the TB sector.

The Philippine Tuberculosis Society Inc. introduces its new Medical Director (Head for Health Programs and Services) Dr. Paulyn Jean B. Rosell-Ubial, appointed last April 29, 2024.

Dr. Pau has more than two decades of experience in public health, starting out as a Rural Health Practice Volunteer, and later becoming Assistant Secretary of Health for 8 years and interim Secretary of Health. She is an advocate for to***co control in the Philippines, and was a recipient of the 2017 World No To***co Day Award by the World Health Organization. Most notably, she played a major role in conceptualizing the Red Orchid Awards, commending LGUs, government offices and hospitals that achieve 100% To***co-Free Environment status.

Our new leader will be involved in supervising PTSI’s several clinics, and will guide the Society in fulfilling its Vision and Mission as the country’s pioneer institution in providing TB diagnostic, treatment and preventive services and doing TB research and training in partnership with the country's various stakeholders in the drive to eliminate TB in the Philippines.

In commemoration of World TB Day, the Philippine Tuberculosis Society Inc. Quezon Institute conducted a free X-Ray screening last March 20, 2024 at Tagupo Covered Court, Brgy. Tatalon, Quezon City.

The event also became an avenue to promote healthy lifestyles through a zumba session, to share the lived experiences of a TB survivor, and to recognize QI's partner barangays' efforts in eliminating TB in their communities.

The Philippine Tuberculosis Society Inc. Quezon Institute officially started its enhanced community outreach efforts last July 2023. PTSI QI's Community Health Section has been active in select barangays in Quezon City, together with Barangay Health Teams and Barangay Health Workers and in coordination with the Quezon City Health Department.

For the first two months of 2024, PTSI QI has already started providing free chest X-ray and TB awareness sessions in Barangays Santol and Damayang Lagi. Coordination efforts have also started in Carlos L. Albert High School, and Barangays Doña Imelda, Doña Josefa, and Tatalon.

The Philippine Tuberculosis Society, Inc. Roxas Memorial Chest Clinic and Dispensary (PTSI Roxas City Branch, PTSI - RCCD) was recently recognized in GRF Hublag Microfinance Foundation Inc.'s Outstanding Partners Award 2023.

PTSI - RCCD, led by Branch Manager Dolores Benliro, worked with Hublag in engaging farmers in Roxas City to address TB in their communities. Activities conducted to achieve this goal include hosting health education sessions, and providing quality TB care from screening to diagnosis and treatment.

On November 29, the Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. and the Philippine Tuberculosis Society Inc. with special thanks to the Justice Cecilia Muñoz Palma Foundation, Inc. (Official), launched "Health TB: Aksyon Kalusugan", the newest educational show on Knowledge Channel with iammutya_orquia a which aims to raise awareness and debunk misconceptions about tuberculosis. 🫁 ✨

Kayang magamot at gumaling sa sakit na TB kahit na may HIV.

Ang sakit na HIV, o human immunodeficiency virus, ay nagpapababa ng resistensya ng katawan at nagpapataas ng tsansa na magkaroon ng ibang mga sakit katulad ng TB.

Ngayong World AIDS Day, tandaan na kayang maagapan nang maaga ang TB-HIV. Magpatingin sa mga healthcare professionals o sa PTSI Chest Clinics.

Ngayong Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week, tandaan natin ang kahalagahan ng tamang pag-inom ng mga antimicrobials, tulad ng mga gamot panlaban sa TB. Siguraduhing tuloy-tuloy ang gamutan laban sa TB at inumin ang gamot ayon sa payo ng healthcare professional.

Sundin ang tinakdang schedule ng pag-inom ng gamot hanggang sa matapos, kahit na gumiginhawa na ang iyong pakiramdam. Paraan ito para maiwasan ang drug-resistant TB na maaaring umabot ng 9 na buwan hanggang 2 na taon ang gamutan.

Para magabayan sa iyong gamutan laban sa TB, maaaring bumisita sa mga health center o sa pinakamalapit na PTSI Chest Clinic. Pumunta sa https://philtbsociety.org/ para sa karagdagang impormasyon.

Ang mga taong may diabetes ay mas malaki ang posibilidad na magkaroon ng sakit na TB. Kaya ngayong World Diabetes Day, huwag nating kalimutang magpakonsulta kaagad sa healthcare professionals o sa mga PTSI Chest Clinic kung may nararanasang sintomas ng TB.

Suportahan ang iyong kapamilya o kaibigan na may sakit na TB habang sila ay naggagamutan at nagpapagaling.

Mahalagang palakasin ang kanilang loob na kaya nilang lagpasan ang TB at huwag silang pandirihan o itrato na iba. Tulungan silang palakasin ang kanilang immune system sa pamamagitan ng masusustansyang pagkain, at palaging paalalahanan na uminom ng gamot araw-araw sa tamang oras. Kung maaari, samahan sila sa mga follow-up check-up sa DOTS clinic. Ipaalam din sa healthcare workers sa DOTS clinic kung may mga nararamdamang side effects, para ito ay maagapan.

Ilan sa mga paraan para malaman kung posibleng may TB ang isang tao ay sa pamamagitan ng X-ray at pagkuha ng sample ng plema. Maaaring magpasuri sa inyong pinakamalapit na health center o sa mga PTSI Chest Clinics.

The Philippine Tuberculosis Society, Inc. hosted delegates from Papua New Guinea, composed of officials from their National Department of Health and TB healthcare workers, for a facility visit at our Kabalikat sa Kalusugan (KASAKA) Treatment Center in Quezon City last September 28, 2023.

Our PTSI-KASAKA team shared its experience and achievements in the management and treatment of drug-resistant TB (DR-TB), and answered questions on its implementation of the Programmatic Management of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis (PMDT) program.

The facility visit was done as part of the Study Group Tour hosted by the Department of Health (Philippines) in coordination with the World Health Organization Philippines Country Office. The tour aims to learn from the Philippines' PMDT program, in order to enhance Papua New Guinea's MDR-TB program.

Libre ang TB-DOTS o Tutok Gamutan para sa mga may sakit na TB.

Ang gamutan laban sa TB ay kadalasang umaabot ng 6-12 na buwan at kailangang sundin ang araw-araw na pag-inom ng mga niresetang gamot, ayon sa payo ng health care professional. Kailangang tuloy-tuloy ang pag-inom ng mga gamot, kahit na wala nang iniindang sintomas, para masigurong mapupuksa ang lahat ng mikrobyong TB sa mga baga.

The Philippine Tuberculosis Society Inc (PTSI) hosted a series of meetings with Fundación Vicente Ferrer (FVF) last 26-28 September 2023. An international non-profit organization, Fundación Vicente Ferrer has been empowering rural communities in India through development programs such as education, health and women empowerment.

In FVF's visit to the PTSI National Office and the Quezon Institute, PTSI showcased the its efforts in eliminating TB in the country through its Chest Clinics and community health programs. PTSI also introduced the TB landscape at different settings through field visits in Tacloban City: our own Eastern Visayas Chest Clinic and Dispensary, DSWD Region 8 Office, Tacloban City Health Office, and Brgy. Mudboron in Alangalang, Leyte.
