April 16, 2024, was a landmark day for our AFPEBSO team, led by CAPT VIRGILIO C DE GUZMAN PN(GSC). We were warmly received by Dr. Leonilo B. Oliva, Director, and the Scholarship Coordinators namely; Ms. Allaisa Mae Lupio, Ms. Apple Jee Tapian, Mr. Jose Pineda, and Ms. Janine Tudtud at the University of Cebu.

CAPT DE GUZMAN PN(GSC), Chief, AFPEBSO, expressed our gratitude to the University of Cebu for their continuous support to AFPEBSO. He discussed the details of the existing MOA which was signed in 2006, and the number of current and graduate grantees under different programs. He then informed the Director regarding the intention of a possible renewal of the MOA.

April 16, 2024, was a pivotal day for our AFPEBSO team, led by CAPT VIRGILIO C DE GUZMAN PN(GSC). We were warmly received by Engineer Alden F. Salazar, President, and Ms. Gerondia B. Cañas at Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology.

Engr. Salazar expressed his willingness to renew the MOA and proposed a counter offer that includes 5 free global certifications online for computer-related courses/trainings for the dependents of military personnel. These certifications, which include Microsoft, Adobe, AutoCAD, and AI program, are highly relevant in today’s world plagued with cybercrime issues. He also generously offered a discount for any Military Personnel interested in the Online Certification.

We also discussed the exciting possibility of AFP conducting recruitment/Career guidance for the graduating students of SCSIT.

On April 14, 2024, the AFP Educational Benefit System Office (AFPEBSO), headed by CAPT VIRGILIO C DE GUZMAN PN(GSC), hosted an inspiring Grantee Orientation at Bondad Hall, AFP Visayas Command, Camp Lapu-Lapu, Cebu City. A total of 21 grantees, along with their parents and guardians, participated in this enriching event. Ms. Jennie Rose Balayanto, our dedicated Educational Program Associate, delved into essential topics of the Source of Funds, Educational Benefit Process and Educational Program Offered. Grantees had the chance to ask questions and address their concerns during the interactive Q&A portion. We organized interactive games that allowed grantees to connect and build lasting friendships. CAPT DE GUZMAN PN (GSC), initiated a delightful boodle fight during lunch. It was a moment of unity and shared enjoyment!

April 16, 2024, marks a landmark day for our team, led by CAPT VIRGILIO C DE GUZMAN PN(GSC), as we had the privilege of engaging with key figures at our partner institution.

We were honored to meet Rev. Fr. Persiuz Joseph M. Decena, OAR, Vice-President, Identity, Formation, and Mission, Rev. Fr. Leopoldo V. Estioko, OAR, Scholarship Director, Ms. Dolores M. Baba, Scholarship Officer, and Ms. Erin Kristine A. Amad, Scholarship Staff.

The highlight of our visit was a significant assurance from Rev. Fr. Decena, OAR, who confirmed that dependents of active military personnel will be included as beneficiaries of the grant once the MOA is amended. This addresses the issue of unavailed slots due to limited qualified beneficiaries.

On April 17, 2024, the AFPEBSO team conducted an Information Drive at the Naval Forces Central in Lapu-lapu City, attended by 51 military personnel. The team, led by CAPT VIRGILIO C DE GUZMAN PN(GSC), discussed the educational benefits available to dependents of AFP personnel through AFPEBSO. Attendees showed interest in the application process, eligibility, maintaining grades for the program, and the partner schools of AFPEBSO.

We were welcomed by a committee of distinguished faculty members, including Dean Dr. Martiniano C. Zanoria, Former Dean Dr. Thelma L. Fernandez, Admissions Committee Chair Dr. Corazon T. Meneses, Medical Education Unit Chair Dr. Michael James C. Busa, and Scholarship Committee Chair Dr. Maria Suga A. Dioko.

Big strides were made on April 25, 2024! The AFPEBSO, led by CAPT VIRGILIO C DE GUZMAN PN(GSC), had a productive meeting with Atty. Rey Traje, the Chief of Staff for the CIBAC Partylist, and three other delegates.

The attendees included some of our esteemed colleagues: COL WENDELL J BASAT (GSC)PA, Deputy Chief of the OLA, LTC HARRISSON DRAY D JUMANOY PAF, Chief of the Welfare Branch MWPSD, OJ1, LTC GERALD B CABRERA, Chief Admin Assistant for Military Justice in the OTJAG, and Ms. Meritzel Joy B. Tijap Civ Hr, Admin Officer II in OJ10.

The main focus of the meeting was the proposed revision of RA 6963. CIBAC presented their proposed changes to this legislation, marking a significant step forward in our collective efforts. Stay tuned for more updates!

Attention: Interested Applicants

The Mercury Drug Foundation, Inc. is now accepting applications for the Pharmacy Scholarship Program for the incoming AY 2024-2025. Please note that prospective applicants should meet the following qualifications:
1. Financially-challenged 3rd or 4th year students
2. Have a GWA or GPA of 2.5 (80%) and above
3. Enrolled on a regular/full load basis
4. In good health, single and not more than 23 years old
5. Willing to accept at least two years’ employment with Mercury Drug
6. Have no relatives who are employed with/retired from Mercury Drug or its subsidiaries

Applicants who meet the above-listed basic qualifications shall FIRST SUBMIT THEIR COMPLETE REQUIREMENTS TO AFPEBSO on or before 19 APRIL 2024. Approved applicants will be given an Endorsement Letter by the AFPEBSO and a pre-application form/link upon checking their submitted requirements. See posters for other details.

NOTE: The Scholarship Program shall only apply to PACoP schools accredited by the Mercury Drug Foundation, Inc.
