June 10-14, 2024 at Malilipot, Albay โ CHED-MIMAROPA presented its Physical and Financial Accomplishment in the implementation of the Agricultural Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (ACEF)- Grants in Aid for Higher Education Program (GIAHEP) in Academic Year 2022-2023.
Steered by Department of Agriculture (DA) and CHED Joint Memorandum Circular no. 2017-7, ACEF-GIAHEP aims to contribute to the agriculture and fisheries by increasing the number of graduates in higher education who are trained in the scientific habit of thought, entrepreneurial skills, and technical competencies in the areas of agriculture, forestry, fisheries, veterinary medicine education, and related agricultural education programs.
Merigen S. Cafino, Supervising Education Program Specialist and focal of Student Financial Assistance Programs (StuFAPs) Unit of CHED-MIMAROPA presented and joined in the discussion with program leads from DA-MIMAROPA, and Landbank of the Philippines (LBP-MIMAROPA) to better implement ACEF-GIAHEP and to address the issues and concerns that occurred in the program implementations in the said academic year in preparation for the new ACEF-GIAHEP in 2024.

Consultative Meeting and Dialogue of Oriental Mindoro Association of Higher Education Institutions, Inc. (OMAHEI) with CHED MIMAROPA
Province of Oriental Mindoro | The Oriental Mindoro Association of Higher Education Institutions, Inc. (OMAHEI) recently convened last June 18, 2024 for a consultative meeting and dialogue with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) MIMAROPA, led by Regional Director Dr. Jimmy G. Catanes and Chief Education Program Specialist Engr. Edgar C. Cepe. This gathering served as a pivotal platform for collaboration and strategic discussions among key stakeholders in higher education within the province.
Monitoring and Evaluation of Regional Quality Assessment Team (RQAT) at Southwestern College of Maritime, Business and Technology, Inc.
Province of Oriental Mindoro | Led by CHED MIMAROPA Regional Director Dr. Jimmy G. Catanes, the Regional Quality Assessment Team (RQAT) of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) MIMAROPA ensures the adherence to educational standards and quality of Southwestern College of Maritime, Business, and Technology, Inc. (SCMBTI), to which they applied to offer Bachelor of Science in Information Systems (BSIS) and Bachelor of Multimedia Arts (BMMA) programs last June 18, 2024. They assess facilities, laboratories, and classrooms designated for the BSIS and BMMA programs, evaluating the integration of sustainable technologies, adherence to environmental standards, and readiness to deliver quality education.

Building on the momentum of a successful collaboration workshop held in Perak, Malaysia, on May 6-7, 2024, participants from Batangas State University, Guimaras State University, Kalinga State University, Palawan State University, Technological University of the Philippines, University of Southeastern Philippines, Western Philippines University, Occidental Mindoro State College, and Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) have gathered in Puerto Princesa, Palawan for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
Under the visionary leadership of Chairman Prospero de Vera III, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has spearheaded this initiative. Chairman de Vera's commitment to enhancing the global competitiveness of Philippine higher education has been instrumental in forging this partnership. His forward-thinking approach and dedication to international collaboration have paved the way for this significant milestone, promoting excellence and innovation across Philippine universities.
This initiative has been efficiently coordinated by the Office of International Affairs Service, led by Atty. Lily Freida C. Macabangun-Milla, CESO IV. Her efforts ensure that the partnership aligns with CHEDโs objectives of internationalization and academic excellence.
This collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) in Malaysia and several other Philippine universities signifies a significant step in strengthening international academic ties. On June 20, 2024, participants from various higher education institutions from six regions across the Philippines have gathered in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, marking a significant milestone in academic collaboration and international relations. The occasion is set to culminate in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Philippine Higher Education Institutions (PHEIs) and Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) Consortium today June 21, 2024. To be hosted by Palawan State University and Western Philippines University.
This event, organized under the auspices of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), highlights Puerto Princesa's pivotal role as a hub for academic exchange and partnership. Welcoming delegates from institutions across the country, the city exemplifies its commitment to fostering educational advancement and international collaboration.
The Office of the Governor Hon. Dennis M. Socrates and Local Government Mayor Hon. Lucilo R. A remarkable achievement as the first Higher Education Institution (HEI) from the MIMAROPA region to be internationally recognized, contributing significantly to Quality Education. Since 2020, there has been a notable increase in the number of Philippine HEIs participating and ranking in the THE Impact Rankings, reflecting our commitment to global academic excellence and Reduced Inequalities.
In 2020, the number of ranked universities was much smaller, but it has grown significantly over the years. In 2022, 15 Philippine universities were included, a substantial increase from previous yearsโ (PNA.gov.ph)โ, signifying progress toward Decent Work and Economic Growth as well. By 2023, the number of Philippine universities in the THE Impact Rankings rose to 29, further showcasing the country's growing commitment to global academic excellenceโ (Philstar.com)โ and emphasizing the importance of Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure in our education sector.
This achievement highlights the growing engagement and dedication of Philippine Higher Education Institutions in pursuing global standards of excellence and fostering Partnerships for the Goals.
Chairman Prospero De Vera has been a steadfast advocate throughout this journey. His strategic leadership has played a crucial role in guiding and inspiring Philippine universities to seek international recognition and elevate their academic and research profiles on the global stage.
Accessible Student Services, Safe Space, and Drug-Free Campus Initiatives Kicks Off in MIMAROPA HEIs
One hundred ten (110) academic officials and students from private and public Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Palawan share commitment with the Commission on Higher Education โ MIMAROPA Regional Office (CHED-MIMAROPA) to establish more accessible student services, safer space, and Drug-Free Campus as they participated in the Reorientation on Policies, Standards, and Guidelines on Student Affairs and Services and the Roadmap of Philippine Anti-Illegal Drugs for Higher Education Institutions in MIMAROPA Region on June 4, 2024 at Canvas Boutique Hotel, Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
Ms. Cynthia Q. Hernandez, the OIC- Chief of the Local Student Affairs Division of the Office of Students and Development Services of the Commission discussed the Policies and Guidelines on Local Off-Campus (CMO No. 63 Series of 2017) while Ms. Lovelyn L. Chen, the Education Supervisor II talked about the Enhanced Policies and Guidelines on SAS (CMO No. 09 Series of 2013) and the Guidelines on Gender-Based Sexual Harassment in HEIs (CMO No. 3 Series of 2022). The discussion formed the first part of the activity on Student Affairs and Services (SAS).
In the second part of the orientation, the participants collectively engaged in a lively discussion by Director Francis Grace H. Duka-Pante, Director of ASEAN Training Center for Preventive Drug Education, as she presented the, โEffective Delivery of School-Based Prevention Interventions.โ
The activity aims to: (1) provide an overview of the Policies, Standards, and Guidelines on Student Affairs and Services and the Roadmap of Philippine Anti-Illegal Drugs Strategy; (2) determine the importance of establishing the Drug Prevention Committee in HEIs and a provincial network of all HEIs; (3) affirm the responsibilities of HEIs in the provision of Student Affairs and Services; and (4) come up with an action plan for SAS and PADS for the implementation of the HEIs in MIMAROPA Region.
CHEDRO MIMAROPA Director, Dr. Jimmy G. Catanes, CESE, and the Chief Education Program Sspecialist, Engr. Edgar C. Cepe expressed satisfaction with the participation of HEIs and exhorted vigilance awareness of HEIs to attain a drug-free HEIs in MIMAROPA Region.
Hosted by the Supervising Education Program Specialist of CHED-MIMAROPA, Ms. Merigen S. CHED MIMAROPA celebrate the outstanding achievement of Romblon State University ranking #261 in the 2024 Worldโs Universities with Real Impact (WURI) Global Top 300 Innovative Universities.
Romblon State University (RSU) has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first higher education institution in the MIMAROPA region to be included in the WURI Global Top 300 Innovative Universities. Catanes, alongside officials of Western Philippines University, and WPU's KanTugYaw Performing Arts Troupe, warmly welcomed CHED Chairman De Vera, as he arrived at Puerto Princesa Palawan for the conduct of the Investiture Ceremony of Dr. Amabel S. Liao, as the 4th President of the Western Philippines University.

This week, CHED Composite Team completed their visits to Sablayan, San Jose, and the Main Campus of OMSC, finalizing the program validation for Hospitality Management, Tourism Management, Physical Education, and Architecture. We commend OMSC's efforts in their journey towards university status, which aligns with SDG 4 (Quality Education) and paves the way for a more sustainable future in the region.
