Why dental cleaning is important?

Plaque is a sticky film that forms on teeth. It contains bacteria and develops when food particles mix with saliva.

Brushing, however, doesn’t remove all plaque in between your teeth. Leftover plaque calcifies or hardens, which forms tartar.

Tartar can lead to gum disease.

This includes gingivitis, which is inflammation of the gums.

If left untreated, gingivitis can advance to periodontitis.
This is a serious infection that destroys the supporting bone leading to losing of your teeth.

Professional teeth cleaning is a procedure aimed at preventing tooth decay and gum disease.

Doctors recommend that you visit once every 6 months for a cleaning.

You may be at a higher risk for gum disease if you:
--have diabetes, smoking, have a family history of gum disease, in such cases frequent dental cleaning is advised.
