UCC Researchers-Extensionists Engaged in the DMMSU-CHED Program on Building Expertise in Impact Evaluation

Dr. Marilou L. Agustin (VPAA), Prof. Rowena Galangco (CEAA OIC Director), and Prof. Lecyl Cabading (OSAS OIC Dean) participated in the capacity-building in impact evaluation for the City of San Fernando higher education institutions organized by the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial University-North La Union Campus and the Commission on Higher Education, July 15-17.

The program aims to capacitate institutions to conduct impact evaluations of their research and extension projects and initiatives. Part of the program is to develop collaborative projects in which UCC is one of the identified lead researchers represented by Prof. Galangco.

UCC Researchers Participate in the 2024 International Conference on PIKAECAH

As part of strengthening researchers' capability, seven College researchers officially participated in the 2024 International Conference on Prairie and Indigenous Knowledge in Agriculture, Education, Culture and the Arts and Health (PIKAECAH) from July 16-18, 2024 by the PhilCanEducon Magic 7+, with Mariano Marcos State University as the lead project implementer.

The research presentation includes one of the studies conducted by the College through Prof. Teofilo B. Damoco, titled Isu Pay as a Marker of Ilokano Identity. Meanwhile, the team benchmarked the research methodologies of Indigenous studies through the various research in various disciplines presented.

The researchers include Dr. Cherrel Ignacio (SEAS), Dr. Emma A. Ganuelas (SBS), Prof. Rufina M. Dumaoang (Admin), Dr. Grace Hope Bautista (BES), Prof. Only Navalta (SHeS), and Mr. Edward Alfon Baccay (OSAS).

UCC, TRSU Commit to Operationalize MoU

Bangkok, Thailand (July 12, 2024) - Union Christian College and St. Teresa International University in Bungsan, Ongkarak, Nakhon Nayok, Thailand made their strong stance to make the Memorandum of Agreement signed in 2023 work through instructional, cultural, and research collaboration in the next few months.

UCC's representatives Prof. Teofilo B. Damoco, Dr. Ema A. Ganuelas, and Mr. Daniel G. Ignacio met with the representatives of TRSU through a conference hosted by St. Teresa International University headed by the University President Dr. Piyada Wattanasan; Asst. Prof. Dr. Vichian Puncreobutr, Vice President for Research and Planning; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suphak Pibool, Dean of the Faculty of Education; Asst. Prof. Dr. Ubon Dhanesschaiyakupta, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; Dr. Alfredo Espejo of the Faculty of Business; Ajarn Leo Anthony Flores; Ajarn Bhuson Tran from the International and Publica Relations Office to discuss how the MoU can be realized the soonest possible time.

President Dr. Piyada presented the overall possibilities for the UCC's engagement, which was further elaborated by the members of the University Administration. This highlighted the potential gains students, faculty, and institutions in general can benefit from.

UCC, on the other hand, expressed her commitment to realizing the MoU's goals, highlighting, too, the areas it can offer TRSU to operationalize the mutual understanding.

After the meeting, UCC joined the TRSU family in their weekly mass, followed by a lunch fellowship, where Dr. Chaipat Wattanasan, VP for Academic Affairs, and the rest of the president's family joined.

A campus tour followed after lunch, wherein the UCC team visited some centers and classes at the University.

UCC Conquers the International Community

Bangkok, Thailand (July 12, 2024)-Union Christian College took a stride in furthering its integration into the international academic community through its researchers, whose research outputs were accepted for presentation and publication in the 7th International Conference on the Future of Education conducted by the TIIKM (The International Institute for Knowledge Management) with its base in Sri Lanka.

Prof. Teofilo Damoco, Director of the Center for Research Development, Marketing, and Alumni Affairs; Dr. Emma A. Ganuelas, Program Head for Business Education; and Mr. Daniel G. Ignacio, Administrative Staff at the CREDMAA, joined more than 150 researchers from 25 countries in advancing ideas and discoveries on the role of technology in the future of education.

On top of their participation as research presenters, Prof. Damoco and Dr. Ganuelas also served as session chairs in two separate fora during the conference. With their institutional exposure to research conferences and colloquia, they commendably facilitated the sessions assigned to them by moderating the discussions between research presenters and the participant observers.

Furthermore, Daniel G. Ignacio was adjudged best poster presenter for his undergraduate paper "Plagiarism Prevention Skills for Tertiary Students: A Service-Learning Project," which he wrote under the guidance of his research advisor, Prof. Damoco.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ganuelas was recognized as a Social Media Ambassador for her active dissemination of information about the international conference.

Finally, it is hoped that the foresighted partnership with The International Institute for Knowledge Management for research collaboration and publication opportunities, student engagement, and faculty development program will be realized in the days to come between the UCC representatives and the administrators of TIIKM.

UCC, AUP Realizes Partnership

Union Christian College and the Universitas Aisyah Pringsewu (Aisyah University of Pringsewu) forged to realize their partnership through an engagement in celebration of the 5th Founding Anniversary of AUP.

AUP invited UCC to be part of the celebration through a webinar on sustainable health programs to be delivered by one of the UCC Professors, Dr. Rose Merlyn M. Jubilo of the School of Health Sciences on June 4, 2024. Ten student nurses are also joining the activity.

On the other hand, Prof. Teofilo B. Damoco of the Center for Research Development, Marketing and Alumni Affairs will be serving as one of the members of the board of judges in AUP's International Speech Competition on June 3, 2024.

Meanwhile, at least two UCC Professors in nursing and midwifery will be serving AUP as visiting professors this coming June. Furthermore, Dr. Marilou L. Agustin, VP for Academic Affairs, Prof. Teofilo B. Damoco, CREDMAA Director, and Dr. Marites B. Cadam-us, SHeS Dean are members of the AUP's international research journals in midwifery and nursing along with research methodologies and content knowledge, respectively.

Additionally, AUP opened for the possibility of furthering the engagements through student mobility programs in the other disciplines.

In the opening of the maiden edition of the Multidisciplinary Research Festival for the Basic Education Schools under the Advancing of School's Culture through Research in Basic Education (ASCRIBE) Program, May 9, 2024, Dr. Glenn S. Cabaccang, CEO and President of the Ascendens Asia Group and Rev. Dr. Ferdinand A. Anno, College President lauded and challenged UCC researchers for impactful academic explorations and investigations.

Both CEOs took their stance on conducting research grounded on contributing novel ideas and products in promoting a meaningful life.

Dr. Cabacang expressed his trust that Union Christian College is in the forefront of conducting research that inspire better growth and development for the community.

For his part, Rev. Anno emphasized that no matter how "small" the research idea if approached in the context of empowering lives served meaningful impact to people and communities.

Rev. Anno, Other Executives of CREATE-UCCP Schools Sent for a Benchmarking Visit in Taiwan

The Taiwan Study Exchange among Heads of UCCP Schools and the UCCP Formal Education Board (FEB), hospitably hosted by the Presbyterian Church of Taiwan (PCT), provided the participants with wonderful and inspiring exposure and opportunities. It allowed them to consider how they might be more proactive and visionary in their roles within the Church institutions. The lively meals and fellowship shared with various hosts highlighted the connection between purpose and mission and offered a chance to experience each other's culture and cuisine. This was indeed a very valuable experience. Gratitude is extended to both PCT and UCCP for fostering this partnership. To God alone be the glory.
