Wika o Diyalekto
Itinuturing na wika (language sa Ingles) kung hindi magkakaintindihan ang dalawang tagapagsalita nito na may magkaibang katutubong wika.
Diyalekto ang tawag sa mga sanga ng mga wika na maaaring magkaiba sa isa't isa sa ilang katangian. Ngunit nagkakaintindihan ang dalawang tagapagsalita na may magkaibang diyalekto.

Ang sinaunang pagsulat ng mga Pilipino ay hindi alpabeto o alibata kundi silabaryo o baybayin. Ang baybáyin ang sinaunang alpabeto ng mga Filipino bago pa dumating ang mga Español at maituro ang alpabetong Romano. Mula ito sa salitâng “baybáy” ng mga Tagalog na nangangahulugan ng lupaing nása gilid ng dagat at ng “pagbaybáy” na nangangahulugan ng ispeling.

Ang Buwan ng Agosto ay ang Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa.
Sa bisa ng Proklamasyon Bilang 1041, serye 1997 na nilagdaan ni dating Pangulong Fidel Ramos noong Hulyo 15, 1997, idineklara niya and buong buwan ng Agosto bilang Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa. Ito ay isinunod sa buwan ng kapanganakan ng dating Pangulong Manuel Quezon, na isinilang noong Agosto 19, 1878, at itinuturing na Ama ng Wikang Pambansa.
