While having stuck on your desk may be disguised as you getting more tasks done, it also helps that you give your brain a healthy respite. Taking regular breaks or time off helps you recharge your energy, reduce stress, and prevent burnout. By incorporating so in your daily routine, you are giving yourself more room for creativity, mental clarity, and productivity.

True as they say, "Take your downtime as seriously as you do your hustle."

So the next time you get yourself a walk, a coffee, or a few stretches, do so with a happy heart, and do it willfully.

Feedback takes your employees to a whole new perspective about themselves. They see a reflection of who they are and what they do from someone who feel for them. So, if you don't give feedback, you steal that gift of growth.

It's high time that managers should give feedback more often - an intentional dialogue that encourages, corrects, and inspires. Do it the right away, and you will lessen the trouble of grooming your employees.

Last week, we talked about managing our energy, not only our time. Today, we're going to discuss distractions.

#2 assignment: Brush aside distractions.

Distractions come in two forms: (1) self-imposed, which are distractions within our control such as intentionally powering off device's notifications; the other type (2) is environmentally-imposed distractions, or the ones that we cannot tune out easily such as a colleague dropping by your desk, or a sudden call that might interrupt your ongoing task.

Why do we address this? Not only do distractions rob your time and focus, it also eats up YOUR TIME TO REFOCUS, which, according to research, can climb up to 23 plus minutes to get back to momentum. You can now only imagine how much time you have to spend on refocusing alone if you're kept being distracted by multiple factors in a day. How adverse do you think will that affect your productivity?

While it's completely impossible to tune out distractions at all, there are many ways to reduce them.
1. Silent your phone. If it's not necessary for work, put it somewhere beyond your easy reach.
2. Use a browser blocker to avoid time-consuming tabs.
3. Budget your time, and be strict about it. Sudden approaches that may not call for immediate attention may be addressed later. Finish what's on your plate.

Your first assignment: discover your own unique biological prime time. Have you ever had a time when you are hyper-focused that you easily tick off boxes from your to-do list? That is your peak time – energized, undistracted, and productive. On the flip side, sure, you also have times when you feel sluggish that a usual 5-minute activity feels so heavy that even in 30, it just seems impossible to finish. Consider that your “down time.”

If you feel you’re “in the zone” (meaning "peak time") at 8 AM rather than 1 in the afternoon, carry out your major tasks in the morning, as that will give you a higher chance of doing the work more effectively. You got the energy, the momentum, and the “kick” to execute more. So, instead of doubling down on your caffeine intake on a later time of the day to boost your energy (which for some may be a necessity), the better, more natural, more strategic way of addressing it is by orchestrating your work as early as you zoned in.

You might wonder how you could understand your prime time. Simple. The next time you sit with your desk, check your energy flow and patterns. Observe how you feel every time. Do you usually feel sleepy at 3 PM? That may not be your peak time, obviously. Your body won’t lie to you. You increase your self-awareness the more you listen to what your body tells you, and when you knew yourself well enough, you will not waste your energy spike to menial stuff and begin to itch for energy-consuming activities when you feel a little more drained.

Hence, manage your energy just as much as you manage your time well.
