Radio amateur antenna and peripheral device restoration
DICT's GECS-MOVE
Provided the written material for the seminar.
Thanks Dx2AAA for organizing. Looking forward to a fun exchange of experiences on contesting.
I used Telnet/DX cluster so I entered into the unlimited category. Nevertheless, operated on low power, all band and SSB.
This year's IARU HF contest is more challenging than the last. The band noise was dreadful perhaps because of the local WX.
Furthermore, not so many on phone were heard of JA's (15m) and of YB's (on Orari QSO party). I also encountered technical issues in the middle of the contest with the internal SWR limiter of my radio awkwardly curtailing my TX at 15/10m well below 100W. During the first half, I thought I would score lower than last year's.
Thanks all for the Q's, my score for 2021 (52K) surpassed last year's (25K). Strategy -
* Stayed late into dawn to get EU/HQ multipliers at 40m
* Guarded 15m in the afternoon next day for more EU/HQ multipliers
* Pushed very hard on 20m and then 40m both on the last 5 hours
* Used analog radio with noise canceller MFJ-1026 (better than 7300)
My Idol 4i1EAY Dennis Alexander is the featured photo on the OCDX raw scores.
I did not bag the SEA plaque this time 😉
2021 Contest Log Submissions Closed – Raw Scores available! Firstly a big thank you to everyone who entered the 2021 Oceania DX Contests. We broke our record for the number of logs that have been received this year with 1174 SSB logs and 725 CW logs being r…
Small HF Antenna by SM0VPO SM0VPO - Over the past two months I have been playing with HF antennas in the range of 3.5MHz to 29.7MHz. My basic problem is one of the the two radio amateurs nightmares - lack of space. I just don't have it available. I used to live in a villa outside Arlanda, and with 2200 square meters of garden...
CQWW SSB 2021 - Congratulations to the DU stations who topped Oceania in the SOAB categories. 73 de 4i1LCP
CQ WW SSB 2021 – SOAB LP
I failed in defeating my last year’s score ☹
My take is - The propagation is better this year but there were fewer participants. I also prepared poorly.
• Not as many responded to Runs on the second day. The first day consumed them quickly.
• I also entered the contest exhausted from weeks of heavier office and civic activities. I did not manage my rest hours well and have lesser active hours during the contest.
• My shack needs a review/refurb. My night RX is poor now. In the middle of the contest, I isolated the loud night noise as local to my venerable 40/20/15m dipole. I need to reinstate SDR as soon as time and budget allows.
• The JA’s at 15m were beaming in US and EU at the times of my run. Not as many EU’s and ME’s responded to my runs at 10m and 15m.
• Need to favour QSO rates over accuracy during peaks.
• Aching for a monoband 20m beam since last year. Dependent on installing tower.
• At 2PM PST, there is a long path to America beaming West.
‘Hope to be back next year with a vengeance. Hopeful that I would be able to install my crank-up tower this coming summer.
Congratulations to the many DU stns that participated. Mabuhay po ang DU!
I just scored a bit above my last year's. Propagation is good but there is this horrendous QRN/M last night at 40m. This year is very competitive for DU and YB entrants. I passed through many with serials exceeding 4/500.
I immensely enjoyed 15m and 10m. My station is weakest at 20m but this band was a saving grace as I chanced upon the EU opening last night and gathered multipliers.
The OCDX organizers still has to send my plaque for last year (ASEAN phone champion) :(
Topped Oceania on SSB
410th/2362 on Single Op, All categories
Congrats to DU3TW, Tim, for topping OC on CW, etc.
Helped OM Rey Dw1QAM in raising his renewed 40m dipole over the weekend. Salamat Erol Ibanes, 4H1WXP, for climbing the mast and the slippery acacia tree.
IARU HF Championship 2021:
Second highest score in Oceania on SOAB Low Power, Phone/SSB
Idol Mon DU1R is the top notcher. Congrats to the Dx0HQ team for posting a raw score of 1,887,926. Mabuhay ang DU!

Last hour pile-up performance - accuracy.
In the last hour of last weekend's IOTA contest, I encountered a pile-up in 40m under very noisy band conditions. I am very pleased to see the accuracy of these QSO's with most already QSL'd now in QRZ.com. I am a low power contester and my tactic is to always place premium on log accuracy. I do take the time to repeat and reconfirm call signs and exchanges, even in pile-ups.
The MFJ-1026 noise canceller and MFJ-1040B preselector provide some help to a certain extent. Being a DU net controller also helps and has continuously trained me in listening to several stations modulating simultaneously.
AC common mode filter. I included a 200W dummy load with fan in the same chassis.
IOTA 2021, SSB SOAB LP
I did better than last year. Thank you for the Q's!
Roof eaves have sharp corners. To lengthen cable life, a paint bucket can be used as a former. Likely still below the required bending radius of RG8 but this is better than a sharp 90 deg corner.

The raw scores for the ARRL 10m contest 2020 is out. I entered into the Single operator, Low power and Phone (SSB) category.
I made it second in Oceania
(both the Assisted/Unassisted).
This is one of my most enjoyed contests. I logged 148 QSO's in pure SSB phone and low power across five continents including EU and S America. 10m is a day band, it was good to get first hand experience on the timing of long-haul DX propagation. This is my highest activity in the 10m, a band I often took for granted.
Thank you, Ian 4I1EBD for the live feed.

YBDX 2021. My 1st contest for the year. 245 QSOs.
My second YBDX. Entering into SOAB-LP.
* I've beaten my last year's claimed score four folds
* Good pile-up yesterday evening of YB stns (10 pts each)
* Stayed late in the evening/morning for just very few EU stns logged. Woke up late in the morning (regrets).
Russian DX Contest 2020.

Sharing the joys of our passion
Access to good ham equipment is not easy in the Philippines. This is quite obvious when you listen to the HF bands and hear the many strong amateur radio stations from neighboring countries. I hope that the diligence and passion of our team will allow us to contribute to the Philippine ham community despite the meager means we possess.
Our team finds pre-owned ham equipment overseas to bring into the Philippines for reconditioning. Our joy is on passing amateur radio equipment to local operators knowing the conscientious work we’ve put in assure the new owner the best possible performance and years of durable service.
My radio amateur call sign is 4i1LCP. In my day life, I work as the Vice President of one of the larger engineering consulting firms in the country. I also own a couple of small businesses one of which is in the process of being passed on to my son who is also a radio amateur, 4g1LCV. The aforementioned business is a cabinetry workshop from which a few craftsmen are trained into antenna refurbishment and mast/antenna fabrication and er****on.
I am not in the hurry to dispose my acquired antennas to gain sales. The funds I use are extra and I prioritize the restoration work. The restoration work will follow a pre-detemined process :
