🩺 What Causes Bladder Stones in Dogs?

Bladder stones are primarily caused by bladder infections or urinary tract infections (UTI). They can also be caused by genetics, depending on the type of bladder stone.

💉How can you prevent bladder stones in dogs?

Hydration is key to stone prevention :)
The best tip for management and prevention of any kind of crystal and stone is to focus on keeping your canine companion hydrated, Ng says. “The role of adequate water intake cannot be stressed enough.” Water reduces the ability of a bladder stone to develop, Glazer adds. (c)

This is why we always make sure that all the puppies we release have completed 3-4 doses of vaccines and 2-3 deworming from our trusted Vet at Doc Lenon Veterinary Clinic. This is not for us, but for the wellness of our legacy puppies.

So far, we haven't had any puppy complains after release. All were healthy and their furparents are happy.

FOR PET PARENTS’ AWARENESS! This is the reason why we don’t allow breeders or non-licensed veterinary or non veterinary personnel to do your dog or cat’s vaccination. This includes nurses or human medical personnel, you have your species we have lots. If we vaccinate humans, that would be weird right? Please read on as this may be a long post.

Congratulations you just got a new puppy or you want to adopt a new pup, now what should you do? The first thing to do is to ask your source for your dog’s vaccination card. If your source didn’t give you a vaccination card but told you that he/she was already vaccinated, it is considered void because a licensed veterinarian will give you a vaccination card. This is our only proof that your dog/cat has been vaccinated. Now your source gave you a card and you showed it to your trusted vet, what are the things that your vet or you would look for in the card? Your trusted veterinarian would look for the dates of vaccination, the vaccines given and most importantly the license number and signature of the veterinarian that gave the vaccine. If there’s no license number and signature we simply consider the vaccination status of your dog NULL AND VOID. It means that your vet would either recommend to re-vaccinate or do a vaccine titer check.

“EH NAKATATLO NAMAN NA VACCINE NG BREEDER YUNG A*O KO? BAKIT UULITIN PA? NAMEMERA LANG ATA KAYO EH.” HUMMM. BAKIT NGA BA?

Let’s look at the picture posted. This is an example of a vaccination card without the signature of the veterinarian and vaccines were given by a breeder. Along side the vaccines is the titer check that we did from the same “vaccinated” animal. What does the titer check show? For titer checks, you could see 4 circles. The upper circle being the control, 2nd circle from the top is for Infectious Canine Hepatitis, 3rd circle is for Canine Parvo virus and the bottom circle is for Canine Distemper. For vaccine titers we detect the level of antibodies present on the patient or basically the “titer”, we do scaling for this FYI. For us to consider that the dog has a good titer, the circles provided must be dark. No color to pale could imply zero to low titer results. (We’ll include an example of good titer on the comment section). Now what does that mean if it has low titer? It simply means that even if the patient was “vaccinated”, antibodies were not produced and VACCINATION FAILURE ENSUED.

Vaccines are useless when not handled properly or given properly by non-veterinary medical personnel. Antigens present on the vaccine could “die” and will not result to antibody production then causing your dog to be infected later with parvo or distemper or worst both. Trust us when we say we need to re-vaccinate as this thing happens, we do not revaccinate for money (contrary to popular belief). If you are concerned about “over-vaccination”, ask your vet about titer checks and you’ll see whether or not your pet needs re-vaccination. In order to give the best for your pet, bring your dog to your trusted veterinarian and let them do the vaccination. They know the proper handling and administration of vaccines, it’s basically our job to keep the vaccines safe and effective.

Vaccines are very important as these are your pet’s way to protect themselves from infectious diseases like parvo, distemper and leptospirosis. It breaks our hearts when patients come in into the clinic for diseases that can be easily prevented by vaccines. Lack of time, budget or knowledge on where to get vaccinations are not excuses for you as a parent to not give this necessary thing to your pet. Not only will it save you money for the treatment but it will also save you from the heartache of having your pet sick just because you don’t have the time to have them vaccinated or you didn’t have the budget so you just bought a vaccine online and vaccinated your dog yourself. Please let your trusted vets do the vaccination.

This post is not to demoralized breeders or any non-veterinary medical personnel that does DIY vaccination. This post is to educate pet parents and breeders of the possible outcome of not letting your vet vaccinate or re-vaccinate or even getting vaccines on untrusted sources. This thing happens a lot and it’s not an excuse to demoralized veterinarians on their job when vets know what they are doing. Lives are at stake here. This is simply not to boast who’s who and who’s right or wrong but to really show you the consequence of what could happen. Aside from the fact that on the laws of the Republic of the Philippines, non-licensed or non-veterinary medical personnel that vaccinates any animal could get imprisoned even if you are a licensed nurse or physician (just so you know). If you’re a breeder, partner up with a veterinarian. Your vet will most probably welcome you with open arms and support you on your kennel or cattery. If concerned with the budget, ask your veterinarian for discounts or look for a low-cost clinic. If you don’t have the time, ask for home service or find a clinic with extended hours (like us hehe). There is no excuse, really. Every vet is happy when every pet is healthy, remember that. We are not here for the money, we’re here for your pet’s wellness.

Again, keep your pet’s vaccination status updated and trust your veterinarian to do the vaccination.

P.S. Also for those who are asking/interested with the vaccine titer, if your clinic doesn't do vaccine titers you could ask them if they are willing to send blood samples to us and we'll gladly do the vaccine titer test for them. You can tell them to privately message us so we could coordinate with them. Also the price for vaccine titer for CPV, CDV and infectious canine hepatitis is P1200. We do not charge consultation fees with the titer test.

Clinic opens at 9am-9pm, Mondays-Sundays. For home service and appointments call or text our secretary, Harold at 09970784399 or (02)285-3253.

Clinic is located at 337 Rizal Ave. Ext. cor. 5th Ave., Brgy. 51, West Grace Park, Caloocan City. Landmark: LRT 5th Ave Station South 1 Entrance. You can also find us on Waze: Vet Street Animal Medical Center :D
