The Oikos Orchard and Farm has just been included in Philippine Native Tree Enthusiasts (PNTE) national directory of Philippine Native Tree Gardens, Arboreta and Pocket Forests!
An Arboretum of more than 3,000 Philippine Native Trees plus four (4) established Miyawaki Forests are some of the main features of the Farm.
Country’s first espaliered Orchard, 75,000-seedling Nursery of Philippine Native Trees, Stingless Bees, Heritage Trees and Organic Farm including sightings of critically endangered endemic bird Siloy (Black Shama) also take center stage during Farm Tours.

JOIN coffee lovers and immerse in our Farm which features coffee trees, intercropped with fruit and forest trees in an orchard. And on the last day, we will join other industry players at the Coffee Expo Cebu at Ayala Center. The coffee workshops on farming, roasting and brewing are TESDA accredited under Farm to Cup Philippines.

STARTING OUR CACAO TO CHOCOLATE JOURNEY
There are three major cultivar groups being grown by farmers in the Philippines.
These are the Criollo, Forastero, and Trinitario cultivars.
The CRIOLLO is considered as the most prized, rare and expensive variety. It is native to Central and South America.
There is a BUT.
Criollo is also the most difficult variety to grow and is low yielding.
We take the challenge.
Oikos Orchard and Farm positions itself as a Criollo Cacao Farm!
The first batch of 500 Criollo seedlings is here and now waiting for the rainy season to come.

Meanwhile, a single tree which I believed to be a Forastero Cacao Cultivar managed to grow well at Malingkub Creek Mango Farm in Balamban, Cebu.
This is one of our first documented cacao harvests - looks very promising.

💯PURPLE YAM UBE HARVEST
UBE is not Taro.
Ube is a purple yam that belongs to genus Deoscorea while Taro is a vegetable plant that belongs to genus Colocasia. Moreso, Ube is a vine while Taro’s leaves sprout from rhizome and can grow 15in wide and 10in tall.
At Oikos Orchard and Farm, our farmers have been planting these Kinampay cultivars for generations, according to farmer siblings Richard and Richelle whose parents and grandparents have been planting them ever since.
Today, we planted and harvested both Ube Kinampay and Ube Binato cultivars.

🐝The BAE HIGHLANDS MARKET offers fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices and many other farm produce from in and around neighboring villages of this beautiful and scenic highlands ⛰️ of Sibonga in Southern Cebu.
It is taking shape as we start to receive offers to locate their businesses and help villages in the highlands of Sibonga and neighboring municipalities of Dumanjug, Ronda and Argao.
The non-competing locators are Agrivet, Convenience/Sari-Sari Store, 10-1 Kwarta Padala etc, Bakery, Water Refilling, Laundry Shop, Barbershop/Salon and Gas Station.

DOT’s FARM, FORK & FITNESS CIRCUIT
Today’s video documentation of the Regional 7 Office was smooth and memorable esp during the Farm Tour.
The Only Espaliered Orchard in PH, Arboretum, Miyawaki Forests, Native Trees Nursery, Siloy Birdwatching, Fruit and Vegetable Picking, Taklong Tree Snails, Carnivorous Plants and Exclusive Glamping were presented as highlights of Oikos Orchard and Farm.
Our local farmers prepared Manok Bisaya Soup with Butig and Adobong Taklong (PH Escargot) as heritage recipes for the guests.
Car camping ⛺️, trekking, mountain ⛰️ climbing, hiking 🥾, birdwatching, visit to nearby waterfalls, balsa ride, yoga, zumba etc were also presented as outdoor activities.
Thanks to GM Ai, Oikos Orchard and Farm In-House Agriculturist Estong, Oikos Resident Architect Ronnie and the rest of the team for giving an all out needed prep in today’s event.

This year’s 2023 ⛰️ KATKAT PAKIGHIMAMAT Cebu Friendship Climb was held last Dec2-3 at Oikos Orchard and Farm, about 300masl overlooking Bohol Island towards the eastern coastline of South Cebu.
🏕️Groups of OUTDOOR ENTHUSIASTS who love moutaineering🦯, trekking, spelunking, caving, camping ⛺️, rock climbing, mountain biking 🚴‍♂️, etc gather every year to celebrate friendship and camaraderie.

“Hopefully, it's going to be the first in the Philippines to be able to successfully train fruit-bearing trees into a two dimensional orchard.
Meaning, we only allow the fruit bearing trees to grow left and right without branches in the back at a certain height so when they grow and bear fruits we will have fruit picking,” Restificar said.
He is hoping to bring the happy experience of picking fruits to Filipino families.”

APITONG SEEDLINGS 🌱 IN CEBU
Dipterocarpus grandiflorus is a species of flowering plant in the Dipterocarpaceae family. It is an endangered medium hardwood tree of Southeast Asia.
It is a large tree which can grow up to 50 metres tall.

BEST FOR: (1) Soil erosion control and (2) windbreakers for strong winds in typhoon-prone areas.
