The Story of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Church has celebrated Mary’s birth since at least the sixth century. A September birth was chosen because the Eastern Church begins its Church year with September. The September 8 date helped determine the date for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8.

Scripture does not give an account of Mary’s birth. However, the apocryphal Protoevangelium of James fills in the gap. This work has no historical value, but it does reflect the development of Christian piety. According to this account, Anna and Joachim are infertile but pray for a child. They receive the promise of a child who will advance God’s plan of salvation for the world. Such a story, like many biblical counterparts, stresses the special presence of God in Mary’s life from the beginning.

Saint Augustine connects Mary’s birth with Jesus’ saving work. He tells the earth to rejoice and shine forth in the light of her birth. “She is the flower of the field from whom bloomed the precious lily of the valley. Through her birth the nature inherited from our first parents is changed.” The opening prayer at Mass speaks of the birth of Mary’s Son as the dawn of our salvation, and asks for an increase of peace.

Lubos na nagpapasalamat ang aming ministriya sa oportunidad na ibinigay ng Diyosesis ng Pasig sa amin. Gayundin ang Parish Youth Council, Kuya Alvin Belista at ang aming Kura Paroko, Rev. Fr. Hokan Samson, Maraming Salamat po sa inyo. Bagama’t kakaunti lamang ang oras upang maisagawa ito, masasabing ito pa rin ay isang naging matagumpay na aktibidad.

Tiyak ngang ang mga Kabataan ng simbahan ay binigyan ng may angking talento upang makapag lingkod, magalak, at pumuri sa kaniya.

Almighty Father, we raise our hearts to You
in gratitude for the wonders of creation of which we are part,

We have not been good stewards of Nature.
We have confused Your command to subdue the earth.

PRAYER OF BLESSING ON FATHER’S DAY

God our Eternal Father,
Creator of heaven and earth.
When you had given us
your Son, Jesus, to be our Redeemer,
You chose to entrust Him to the care of St. Joseph
to be His earthly father.
We ask you to bless the Fathers and Grandfathers
who are gathered here today.
Bless them with the strength of Your Spirit;
may they love their wives with faithfulness and trust;
may they establish their families with perseverance in work;
and may they also be exemplar in Christian virtues.
Give them the strength which comes from the Gospel
so that they may be witnesses of Christ to others.
We also remember today the Fathers
who are working in other countries away from their families
in order to provide for their daily needs.
Keep them always true to Your commandments;
keep them faithful in marriage
And protect them from any harm.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
One God, forever and ever.
