Psychological First Aid is used during emergency situations.
Take note that you do not need to be a psychologist to learn and implement it.
If you want to be a mental health advocate, this is one of the programs that you can do.
It is culture sensitive that you can apply to anyone.
PFA can be a stand alone intervention.

Separate EMOTIONS from BEHAVIOR.
Emotions are valid and recognize those. Bahavior is the manifestation of how you respond or react to your feelings. Choose to respond rather than to react.
Hold your tongue and contemplate. For God said:
“Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;”
James 1:19 ESV
How we react is a crucial gauge of what's really going on inside us. And unhealed hurt often becomes unleashed hurt spewed out on others.
That's why it's so important to pay attention to our reactions and look for indicators of hidden bitterness as we ask the Lord to point out harmful attitudes in our hearts today.
Here are some telltale signs of this particular heart issue:
•I throw out statements like, "You always - You never - Why can't we ever…?"
•I start gathering ammunition from past situations to build my case.
•I use words and a tone outside my normal character.
•I snap and explode on other people whose offenses don’t warrant that kind of reaction.
•I justify my reaction by pointing out how hard my life is right now.
•I make passive-aggressive statements to prove a point.
•I demand an apology, all the while knowing I should be giving one.
•I feel skepticism that most people can’t be trusted and cynicism about the world in general.
Please know… when people or issues or situations bump into our happy, it's not wrong to feel annoyed. But if that annoyance leads to a reaction out of proportion to the issue at hand, we can bank on the fact that there’s unaddressed pain at the root of our eruption. As my counselor Jim Cress says, “If our reaction is hysterical, it is historical.”
I know these indicators aren’t fun to admit, but we can’t address what we don’t acknowledge. And here's the beauty of the situation: The quicker we see a root of bitterness, the quicker we can invite God in to help us address our pain and heal our heart. We can make sure not one bit of the hurt done to us is multiplied back out by us. - Lysa TerKeurst

“Good morning, anxiety,” I said under my breath one morning, finally acknowledging the storm that rages in my mind this week.
I have thought a lot about Peter since: the guy who asked Jesus if he could walk on water with Him.
We know how the story goes. Peter walked on water as Jesus said he would, then he started sinking. But to be fair, it was a night ravaged by a strong gale, with a sea weathered with unforgiving waves. Nothing about the environment in which Peter chose to walk on water was good, not even the very spot where Jesus stood.
It is such a fine line, then, I realize, when we try to choose to focus our eyes on Jesus or not, between choosing for our minds to stay on Him or not. Because sometimes He chooses to stand right in the middle of our storms, and that’s where He asks us to get our feet wet and trust Him. You move your eyes just a tiny inch away from His gaze or take a very quick moment, and instantly the waves are right there to remind you that it’s been storming bad around you.
But it also only takes a tiny inch of a glance to lock our gaze back on Him again. He's right there in the midst of our storm. We can find Him standing there in the middle of our nights ravaged with a strong gale and seas weathered with unforgiving waves.
And so if we also do ever feel like we’re starting to sink, we are not too far away to be caught by Him. Because He is in the middle of the storm with us, we are within His reach. He is close enough to get us upright when we need Him to, just like what He did with Peter.
I don’t know what rages in your mind lately or what brings you anxiety. I just know that Jesus seems to be the kind who likes to show up walking in the midst of anything that storms us. Find Him there; He’s just a tiny inch of a glance away from the waves that surround you.
Beautiful just the way you are.
