THE CAUSES OF SORE EYES

Sore eyes or conjunctivitis has three main causes. Viral conjunctivitis, the most common, is usually caused by the virus that causes the common cold. Bacterial conjunctivitis can sometimes be due to the bacteria that cause strep throat. Viral and bacterial conjunctivitis are very contagious. Allergic conjunctivitis is an allergic reaction to pollen, animals, cigarette smoke, pool chlorine, car fumes or other environmental factors. It is not contagious.
