ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
๐๐บ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐๐ต ๐ฅ. ๐ข๐ฐ๐ฎ๐บ๐ฝ๐ผ is a Filipino public historian, academic, cultural administrator, journalist, author, and independent curator, best known for his writings on Josรฉ Rizal and Philippine history through his bi-weekly column, โLooking Back,โ in the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
He was Chairman of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (2002-2011) and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (2005-2007). A collector of Filipiniana and Philippine art, Ocampo donated his collection to the Ateneo Art Gallery, which named a wing in his honor. He currently sits on advisory boards of institutions like the Ateneo Art Gallery, Ayala Museum, BenCab Museum, Lopez Museum, and the President Elpidio Quirino Foundation.
Ocampo is also a Professor of History at Ateneo de Manila University, a Distinguished Professorial Lecturer at De La Salle University, and a Professorial Lecturer at the University of the Philippines (Baguio).

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
๐ก๐ถ๐ฐ๐ธ ๐๐ฒ๐ผ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐บ๐ฝ๐ผ is a filmmaker, film historian, and a faculty member at the U.P. Film Institute, University of the Philippines - Diliman. He earned his Master of Arts degree in Cinema Studies from New York University as a Fulbright-Hays scholar and obtained a Certificate in Film from Paris as a French Government scholar. His prizewinning works include ๐๐ญ๐ช๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ, ๐๐ฆ๐ท๐ฐ๐ญ๐ถ๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ด ๐ฉ๐ข๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ฏ ๐ญ๐ช๐ฌ๐ฆ ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ง๐ณ๐ข๐ช๐ฏ๐ด ๐ช๐ฏ ๐ข ๐ด๐ฐ๐ฏ๐จ, and ๐๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ฆ๐น ๐๐ข๐ณ๐ณ๐ช๐ฐ๐ณ๐ด ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ข๐ฎ๐ถ๐ณ๐ข๐ช. His thesis film on Nena Saguil was created while studying filmmaking in Paris.
An advocate of alternative cinema, Deocampo has led workshops and classes that have produced a new generation of filmmakers in short films, experimental cinema, and documentaries. He has organized film festivals that promoted alternative cinema and served as a jury member for various local and international film festivals. Deocampoโs accolades include Spainโs highest award for culture, the Casa Asia Award, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Film Development Council of the Philippines.
He currently chairs the UNESCO Philippines ๐๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ณ๐บ ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ฐ๐ณ๐ญ๐ฅ Committee.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
๐ฃ๐ฎ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ธ ๐๐น๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ is the Deputy Director of Curatorial and Research at the National Gallery Singapore and a Professor of Art Studies at the University of the Philippines. He is also the Director of the Philippine Contemporary Art Network (PCAN). Flores has published widely on Philippine and Southeast Asian art history, art criticism, and art theory. He was a Guest Scholar at the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles (2014), curated the Philippine Pavilion at the 2015 Venice Biennale ("Tie a String Around the World"), served as the Artistic Director of the 2019 Singapore Biennale, and curated the Taiwan Pavilion at the 2022 Venice Biennale.
Ceasar Victor P. Reyes, also known as ๐๐ถ๐ฑ ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐, is a notable Filipino art critic and a modern and contemporary visual artist. Trained at De La Salle University, the Academia di Belle Arti in Rome, and the City Literary Institute in London, he has authored several influential books on Philippine art, highlighting acclaimed national artists. In 1978, he received the Art Criticism Award from the Art Association of the Philippines and was named Art Critic of the Year by Art Manila. From 1995 to 2004, he wrote the weekly column Gallery-Hopping in TODAY Magazine, and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Creative Guild. His artworks have been acquired by prominent national art collections, including Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Permanent Art Collection, and he has contributed writings on institutional art collections, such as those of BPI and MADE (Metrobank), among others.

๐๐ข๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ๐ช๐ข๐ญ ๐๐ฏ๐ด๐ฑ๐ช๐ณ๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ด unites the works of Anita Magsaysay-Ho and Nena Saguil, two groundbreaking Filipino artists who transformed modern art in the Philippines. Born in 1914 and classmates at the University of the Philippines, both women pursued distinctive paths that broke barriers in a male-dominated art world.
Curated by Patrick Flores, the exhibition highlights each artistโs signature techniqueโegg tempera for Anita, pen-and-ink for Nenaโbringing their expressive styles to life.
The exhibition opens to the public on 9 November (Saturday).

๐น๏ธOur dedicated museum security guard, Reynaldo Castro, takes a moment to admire Felix M. Miguel's "Bahay Kubo't, Kahit Munti ang Halaman Doon ay Sari-Sari", an oil on canvas piece from 1989, part of the SIBOL exhibition.
