Using a toothpick to get rid of those food particles may be a common habit of many but did you know that it can cause damage to your teeth and gums? You can accidentally poke your gums with it which can lead to infection. Or the toothpick can break leaving debris stuck in between your teeth that can cause other problems. Toothpicks may also damage fillings, crowns, and veneers when used in the wrong way. So we advise that you ditch the toothpick and use interdental bristles or a dental floss instead when taking out those food particles which are not only bothersome but also damaging to the teeth.
