Degenerative Osteoarthritis is a leading cause of disability in adults worldwide. Although it affects both s*xes, this condition more commonly affects women. It was found that 1 out of 5 women above the age of 60 can have osteoarthritis. Risk factors identified with this condition include obesity, advancing age, female s*x, and previous joint injury. Osteoarthritis is characterized by cartilage destruction, bone spur formation, and joint swelling. All these can lead to pain in the joints, particularly the hips or knees, especially when standing up from a seated position, after walking for long distances, or when going up or down the stairs. X-rays are the initial imaging test that can be requested is assessing the severity of osteoarthritis. Treatment depends on the severity of the condition. It can range from pain medications, physical therapy, and joint injections for mild to moderate cases, to joint replacement surgery for severe cases.

Knee Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure that allows the orthopedic surgeon to visualize inside the knee using just small incisions or cuts in the skin. An arthroscopic procedure can be used to diagnose and treat certain knee conditions. Because of the very small incisions, this often results to less pain and joint stiffness after the surgery, which leads to faster recovery and return to previous level of function.

Painful right hip due to Degenerative Osteoarthritis in a 68-year-old female treated with Total Hip Arthroplasty (cementless).

A 24-year old lady was walking on the sidewalk when she was hit by a speeding jeepney.
Segmental tibial fracture due to vehicular crash treated with Closed Reduction Intramedullary Nailing of the tibia.

70+ year old female slipped and fell while she was feeding her dogs. She sustained a minimally displaced closed intertrochanteric femur fracture in the left hip. Prior to the injury, she was already diagnosed to have long-standing Osteoarthritis in the same hip. She underwent Total Hip Arthroplasty as the recommended treatment.

60+ year old female suffered injuries to both of her legs after a vehicular crash. She sustained bilateral distal tibial and fibular fractures, which were treated with open reduction internal fixation plating.
